UPDATE : 12/24/13

It's been a few years since I first posted this thread and my excitement for my first Byron has carried on to my now 4th Damascus Custom by Byron.  I have used every one of these putters, they are too nice to use everyday, but I do use them all.  Although I don't use them everyday, I never get tired of looking at them.  The intricacies of the metal and Byron's attention to detail and craftsmanship always amaze me every time I take the cover of one of them.  I will also mention that they have a very nice feel as well, very soft with a muted tink, they are great feeling putters.

Oh that poor, poor, poor, poor putter.  All kinds of perdy, but forced to bear that baby blue paintfill.  I'm a huge fan of the dropped heel, especially with that neck.  It just looks right.  Second one is looking like it'll be a beauty too!  Congratulations--and thanks for sharing! :good:

LOOOL! Not sure why I'm not sick of that color yet..  :russian_roulette::)   Good eye though, the sloped heel was what really changed the look of the putter.  Not many would have caught that!  Also, squared up the toe a little, lots of hand work into this one to get it to this shape, I think he removed about 15 grams!

The 2nd one we tried to get it closer to an 029 Scotsdale, could have gotten a little closer, but it would have removed too much weight.

I've never putted with a Damascus putter before, so I was anxious to see how it felt.  It has a pretty unique feel to it, it's very soft, but firmer than my carbon 009.  My best description would be a soft carbon putter but a little firmer, with a little more feedback :)  It feels incredible.

Still loving my 8811 like the first day I got it....but and it actually should be a big "BUT"...that doesn't mean I'm not tempted or wishing for the next putter. ;)

Just wanted to share some pics of some really cool putters I've had in the works with Byron.. they were sort of an engagement present to myself :)  After saving/working my you know what off for an engagement ring, I figured I needed something as well  :vava:

When I was picking up my first customs, he pulled a few heads out that he "found" and as luck would have it.. they happened to be DAMASCUS! I've been intrigued by how cool Damascus looks for some time now, and had some ideas for some really cool putters.  Needless to say, he came through and exceeded my expectations.

I ordered two, here is the first one, and I will update the 2nd when it is done.

First one:

Damascus D007X - Long pipe neck, Tight Tuna Milling, 368g, Blue Acid finish, Lots of hand working!

I'm really not a fan of the "worthless" smilie, in fact: I kind of hate it.  But you can't just post "2nd one done!" sans proof without the fear of reprisals--negativity be damned.

Really though, I'm sure the second one will be worth the price of admission, but I'm still satisfied to look at the first.  Did I mention how perdy it was? :man_in_love:

those putters are SWEET!! I have a question about the damascus though, is it a soft steel? or is the point of using damascus to get that super sweet looking pattern on the putter?

Another great stick Tai.  I thought it would be hard to beat the long pipe, but I'm diggin' the PN proto a little more.  What's the weight on that one?

btw...one more question...when using these new Damascus putters, does the drool out of your mouth make the ball skid more, or less when you putt??  :nyam:

It's actually really soft and solid feeling.. but the super sweet patters are what the Damascus putters are known for.

The 029 is 350g.. the grain on it looks insane, and yes in person I think it looks a little better than the 007X.

LOL.. if drool helps the ball go in, then so be it :)  Wish I had one of these for Spyglass.

True, I did have a nice package from Travis Mathew when I got home today. Orange buckle looks pretty sweet.
I got my work vacation schedule updated for the rest of the year so we should try and figure out a golf weekend so we can see these bad boys in person, provided Tim can stay injury free this time.

I'm in love with the second one. Since I just had my first child a week ago........maybe I should get something special for me.

Email me later Tai and congrats on the engagement and those two amazing putters!

That plumbers neck putter is awesome.  I could look at Damascus putters all day long.

I have a Tom Slighter Damascus putter.  The finish is different.  What kind of finish is on these?  What is Blue Acid?  PVD style finish or a dip?  Maintenance free?

Blue acid is a treatment Byron does to other putters know as Blue oil. It works on carbon or stainless, and since the damascus has different layers they each react differently.

Any comparisons to GSS in terms of feel? Putters look amazing, wish I had a couple grand lying around, would be one heck of a gift for myself
