Looks like KJ switched again. He went from Ping G15 to Ping i15 to Muira CB-501 irons this week at the players.

Those look nice. Almost a Muscle Cavity style iron. I'd love to hit some.

He didn't change this week at the Players.

KJ actually had the Miura's in the bag for his T3 at the Zurich Classic.

Maybe the switch from G15 to I15 and now the Miura was a plan? to get his confidence back. I remeber watching KJ play at firestone couple of years ago when he was playing Taylormade mb and he really struggling with his game. I think the switch was to get him striking the ball solid again. he must feel his game is back> JMO

Now what I find funny is he added all those hybrids at The Masters because he hits his long irons too low. The 501's are a low hitting iron. They are gorgeous and feel AWESOME. I was just not crazy about the look of the 9 & PW at address, especially the PW. I would swap it out for a C-grind 49* or maybe a CB-202/301 PW.

KJ is an excellent golfer. He said something in his masters interview about liking modern equipment. He is just like us but with much better skill.
I think he used to play Mizuno pro2s and tm mb a few years back.

They just mentioned this on Live from the Players pre game. Would love to see him put this away. Good for golfers who don't bow down to big $ equipment contracts. :clapping:

He definitely went from good to best in my opinion. I'm surprised actually that more guys don't sport the Miura brand in Miura trim, not like they haven't played them before from most OEM's tour issue...BB

What wedges is he using?

I keep being told the 501 are low launching. inasmuch as the pros have every club dialed to spin rates and launch angels, they can't be too low launching or he had to have really manipulated something to get them to match specs to G15s... what am I missing?

It's amazing more players aren't playing Miura. But, money talks. The NO1 grips he is using are some of the best grips I have ever felt. They make IOMIC feel like trash.

The 501s remind me of my Mizzy TZoid Trues that i learnt to play with as a 14 year old back in 1987........I still have them and put them next to my baby blades......heads werent much bigger. 501s sweet spot lookslike it is central and from bottom of the face to above the center so they may fly slightly lower than say an R7/R9 type head.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 15, 2011

THE WINNER OF THE 2011 PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP USES MIURA GOLF CB-501 FORGED CAVITY-BACK IRONS

VANCOUVER, British Columbia—The winner of the 2011 PLAYERS Championship used CB-501 forged cavity-back irons made by Japanese golf-club manufacturer Miura Golf, which has been making the world’s highest-quality forged irons for 45 years, the company announced today.

Sunday’s champion captured the title on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff—the famous island-green 17th hole at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The winner’s bag contained Miura’s CB-501 4-PW irons with frequency matched KBS Steel Shafts with progressive swing weights, as well as Miura’s Classic 54- and 60-degree wedges. The CB-501 boasts a W nickel (satin) chrome finish.

"The winner of THE PLAYERS Championship chose Miura, which pleases us greatly," says Adam Barr, president of Miura. "We don’t sign players to endorsement contracts, so when they come to us, it’s a real compliment to Mr. [Katsuhiro] Miura’s craftsmanship. And when they win, we naturally feel very proud."

Mr. Miura’s goal with the CB-501 was to create an iron that featured the ideal ball flight, enough offset to promote playability, the perfect head size and a sole grind that would accommodate a broad range of players.

In all, Mr. Miura spent two years integrating these design variables in different ways until he found the blend that worked best for the widest range of golfers. The result is the CB-501—a cavity-back iron featuring a small muscle-back located behind the sweet spot that delivers the trajectory of a blade iron when the ball is struck on the center of the face. This style of iron also offers cavity-back forgiveness and ball flight, as the contact point moves away from the center of the face.

"It’s validation enough when one of the world’s best players chooses to play your company’s clubs," Barr adds, "but that validation takes on an even bigger meaning when he beats the world-class field in the PGA TOUR’s marquee event of the year."

I didn't find the set of 501s I tried to be low launching. Quite the opposite--extremely high launching especially with where that muscle pad is---doesn't extend to the top of the cavity. They are easily as high launching as the G15s. Certainly a much better sole for control compared to the shovel soles of the G15s.

I remember when Adam was with TGC. Interesting article about how his relationship started with Miura:
