Havent gamed one but have rolled one and the insert is money. Was a bit on  the light side but for the price you can add a drop of lead tape and be sweet.

I just picked up a 770  today after work and it feels great. I have a Ghost fontana with the other pure roll and much prefer the insert in the est .79, not to mention it has one slight line which I feel most golfers prefer.

Let us know!

I picked up the Maranello Style and absolutely LOVE IT.  Like was said before they are a bit on the light side, but it easy to adjust the weight.  The Pure Roll insert rolls a beautiful ball with no skid what so ever.  Point - Aim - Shoot.  All you need to do with these...

I know they are listed at 345 g but, I have noticed the Est '79 putters seem much lighter than that. I have my putters set at 355 g with the changeable weights. A couple of the '79 putters weren't close.

Yes, they do seem to be very light, especially at 33 inches.. This was my only complaint about these putters. Decided to go with a Karsten 1959 Anser 2. which weighs in at 350g, seems to be just about perfect for me.

Where would you recommend putting the lead tape on this putter?

I rolled the 880 yesterday and the insert is the best yet. Even on bumpy spring greens the ball was really rolling.

In the cavity right over "Taylormade" and or on the bottom.  I threw a bunch of lead tape on an original White Hot XG #7 on the bottom a while back and not the lead tape looks like it's part of the putter.  The lighter headweight is a way for the manufacturer to cut corners and save a buck.  Technically the heads should get progressively heavier the shorter they come, but that adds to the tooling costs.  At least with this price point, TM passed the savings on to the consumer.  Plus, lead tape should be seen as a badge of honor or intelligence.

I agree with the sledgehammer comment. I thought these felt very heavy. I picked up a 35", cut 1/2"off and still ended up with a swingweight of D7. This is much heavier feeling than my Circa 62 but the roll in the store was great. Can't wait to get out on the course.

Personally, it's not heavy enough!  All of my customs are in the 365g-380g range.  My Maranello however does the job.  For $99 it works and provides a cheaper alternative to the $250 Ghost.  Plus I love the feel of a softer face than the firmer face of the Ghost.

I'm loving my 880. The insert gives a consistent roll, just aim and hit. I had been wanting to pick up a heel shafted putter (was actually looking for a Cleveland Classic at the time) and the price was right. I know the Cleveland would have been cheaper but they didn't have any in stock. May end up getting one anyways..

The ghosts are $159 retail.  I had a hard time going between the est 79 fontana and the ghost.  I went with the ghost because my main putter is flat black.

I was coming from a White Hot and have played the "Pure Roll" insert all this year. It is much firmer and feels much better. I wasn't a fan of the mushy feeling of the White Hot. The distance control from the Pure Roll is much better.

Played my first round with the 770 today.  About 5 years and 30 putters later, I've determined I'm a mallet guy and an insert guy.  This putter is nothing short of BOMB.  Feel is phenomenal.  Not too crisp/harsh as found in non insert milled putters, but not too soft either.  Putts rolled quick and true.  I had every intention of increasing the weight of this putter and might do so in the future, but as of right now it has serious "mojo" and I've learned not to mess with clubs that have mojo.  At a hundred bucks you'd have a hard time showing me something better for my game.

I just picked up an 880 myself this past week at 34".  Weight feels ok maybe a little light.

The insert feels great and rolls the ball well.  However the big thing I have noticed so far coming from a RIFE putter is the soft insert makes me come up short a lot.  I spent all day my first round with it coming up short from anything over 10 feet.  Something to get used to though it feels great and rolls too good to be too upset.

It could be your stroke is use to the 1.5-2* of loft from the Rife.  The Ghosts are 4*.  Try to forward press a little more next time out as you may be skipping the ball when trying for strike it harder on the longer putts.

I bought one and think it rolls the ball aswell as anything out there.  My only complaint is the paint job is very cheap.  The one I bought, had a 1/4 inch paint blemish on the face next to the insert.  Didn't effect the roll any but it still bothered me that I bought it brand new with the shrink wrap still on it and it still had the blemmish and appeared that the paint would fall off the back of the putter also.  Ended up taking it back and bought a Cleveland Platinum series putter.  The cleveland is an excellent bargain and seems like a very quality putter.

I tried the maranello, I was turned off by the insert being too soft. Also, dirt collects in the grooves of this insert more than other for some reason and sticks there.

Quick story about the Est 79 putters. I rolled one of these (TM-180) at a PGA SS when they first came out. I love the look as it resembled my Sante Fe. It was the best feeling putter I fooled around with that day. Since then, I have gone back to the store and tried many different putters. I purchased an Odyssey Black #6 (gone), SC Fastback 1.5 (gone), Bettinardi (gone), Ping Redwood (gone). I just couldn't "lower" myself to purchase the putter. Finally I was given a credit and decided to try one. I dropped a bit of lead tape on the bottom and put an Iomic midsize on it. I rolled a few 2 Sundays ago on our putting green and knew I liked it. The putter has a great feel. Its not too soft. Its definitely firmer than an Odyssey but not nearly as firm as a SC or Betti. I also love the sound. I use a Penta or a B330S and it has a great click sound. It sounds like a metal putter. The Pure Roll insert rolls the ball really well. Its effect is not as extreme as a Rife IMO. I have a couple of those as well.

This weekend was my first time out with it as my gamer. I played 3 rounds with it and had 7 birdies and 1 eagle. Pretty good for me. I also has numerous par saves. All were 6 feet or more with most being outside 15 feet. My playing partners were wanting to know where I got it and all were trying the putter. My confidence with the putter is absolutely through the roof. It has proven a great deal to me. I didn't have to spend $300 to get a great putter and that the Pure Roll face insert is the real deal.

I have found that the manufacturers' stated head weights can be some way off what you actually get.

Why this is the case I don't know - tolerances seem pretty loose.

Anybody else experienced this?

The bottom is always a good place, one or two clean strips.  I also think a good place is to put a couple of inch long strips along the shaft just below your grip.  It gives a bit more of a balanced feel throughout the putter opposed to just the head

Decided to pick one of these up myself. Almost did when they first came out, but was able to hold out until now. It's a plus that they can be had for even cheaper which makes for a cheap experiment. Going to give the 180 (Santa Fe) model a try. Looking forward to it. Makes it even better that black putters are the "in" thing again.
