The chart gives you a starting point for a fitting. Only way to really zero in is an active fitting with a lie board and tape. You may find the active fitting to be slightly different than the static measurements. I'm a color flatter than the chart says.

Agreed.  My measurements show me to be orange dot and -1" on shaft length but a dynamic fitting told a different story - no change in shaft length (still orange dot).  If you're going PING definitely find a fitter near you for a full on fitting.

Those are very close to my measurements...BUT I play BLACK dot...why?  I bend my knees alot with lots of leg action...could probably use RED dot.  Also carry hands a little low at address.

I play the S56 irons

Height 6-2"
Wrist to floor 36 5/8"

I'm between 1/4" & 1/2"   and also on the line for green and white...

I always have to do things the hard way.....

interesting. well it looks like the obvious choice is to go get fitted. there is a ping cart at the local Roger Dunns and i believe there is a demo day coming up. thanks for all the comments. the reason i ask all this is there was a set of ping s56 on ebay this morning that were green dot for a steal of a price. i was highest bidder for a while. glad i didnt pull the trigger and they could have been all wrong for me.

You really should go to your local golf shop and check on a lie board.  Take the guess work out, wrist to floor measurement does not take into account your swing characteristics.

I'd go green in the long irons and yellow in the short...been through fitting and ping customer service.  You are less toe down with the shorter clubs...at least most of us are.

This is a good chart, but it does go on some assumptions (i.e. a 45* angle on the backswing and downswing) which doesn't necessarily fit everyone. A dynamic fitting is still necessary, because even though I fit well in the standard length and Blue dot (5'11 and 34.5-34.75" wrist) I have a little flatter swing. Who knows - it might actually be right.

Static fit told me purple and -1/4".  Old system, I was red and -1/2".  Then I found a set of red dot i15 used for a good price.  Tried them and they seemed a bit too upright.  Hit the lie board and purple was better than red, but orange was same as purple.  Sent them in to change to purple.  Definitely better than red, but toe is still a tad up at address.  Went to local demo with Ping fitter.  Told him my situation.  Hit a bunch of 7i in purple and orange.  Little difference, but my natural shape is a fade.  Fitter suggested to stay with purple.

So it can be all over and suggest you do all three.
