You are right - most courses tend to use the larger hole aeration machines.  I think the only one in our area that uses the finer hole aeration machines was Waverly.  Unfortunately, with my putting, the holes can only help me!  As for the lofts..yes TM is known for strenthening their lofts on their clubs...it's an ego thing.  Yes I hit that 9 iron 180 yards (pan to the TM iron head...loft of a 5 iron from 3 years ago, LOL).  But, they do engineer the head to launch highe and spin less so it's not all about the lofts).  Me, it doesn't matter if it's a 9 iron or 3 iron...as long as it gets on the green and in the hole in less strokes than what it says on the card (of course this hasn't happened for me yet, LOL)

Nice.  I've been wanting to play RTJ and Landsdowne a long time.  The closest I got was when the wife and I went and stayed down that way and hit the wineries in the area.  Drove THROUGH Landsdowne - that was about it.  Needless to say, if the clubs were in the car, I would of skipped the rest of the wineries on the itinerary and played (of course SWMBO would of been PO'd at me the rest of the weekend, LOL)

The short game was always the last thing that I practiced for a long time.  The swing was out of kilter for a while so I figure the swings that cost me strokes getting to the green was what needed to be fixed first.  Of course I didn't think about it, but most of the strokes lost really was on the greens.  So I started to focus on the short game especially on putting...then the swing went back to be cr*p.  Now, when I do go to the range, I mix it up with 75% swing practice and 25% putting and short game.  If I find the swing is ok, then I go 50/50.

MDHacker

Usually I'm a short game rat, it's weird to feel out of sync! I'm trying a couple of tweaks to the putter and working on some drills tomorrow, so the rust should work its way off soon. Typically before a round I do about 20-30 minutes of  short game only, no full swing. Gotta get back into working on that.  My best rounds swinging the club have usually been the rounds where I practiced sand shots before the round.

"3 iron 250+" <-I want some of that spinach your eating :D  I believe my 3 iron only goes about 190 yards-ish.  I'll need to get on a launch monitor when I get back and get yardages on my irons.

I ordered my clubs 2 degrees strong because I felt like it, and I also like to keep the ball low and hit stingers down the fairway.  I have never been a hybrid hitter.  I am a solid ball striker with my irons, for example 3 iron 250+.  (Even though I do own two hybrids and have no idea why - wtf)  Specs are below (not 2 strong) . . .   LOL...I got rid of a lot of the back up of the backup of the backup to the backup sets :D  I actually have only 3 sets...one that's down in FL when I visit my MIL, once set from a Pro that CG2 gave me and my current player's set.  While I'm not unhappy with my irons (current bag is)

Ogio Exo
Ping G15 9* TFC S-flex
Cleveland DST 2H,3H
Mizuno MP-57 3-PW PX 5.5
Titlelist 2010 Spinmill 52*, 58* wedges
Bettinardi  BB03 putter custom length/weight (I think it's the BB03)

The bag I've had for almost 6 years and actually developed a hole in the change pocket.  Other than that it's still a good bag.  Thinking of going with a Mizuno bag or a Sun Mountain bag.  I'd like to go back to a blade style iron...either the AP2's (haven't hit this year's AP2's or the Nike Blades (hit those and liked them)).  Looking for some hybrids to put in the bag as the DST's never really jelled with me.  New wedges also (like the forged 588's from cleveland - good weight and feel to them)).  Only thing I'm not replacing is the putter...but I may suppliment the current putter with something else  :D

LOL...CG2 and I had a discussion about adjustability when that first became the big thing.  I believe it is illegal to alter the clubs during the round.  I had the R7 when it came out and I adjusted the heck out of that thing.  Problem was, my swing wasn't stable so adjusting it before the round usually lead to bad results during the round, LOL.  It got traded in after a few months.  While adjustability works for some golfers, it didn't for this one that's why I have a G15 driver in the bag.  One less variable out there to figure out (also one less excuse as to why I would have an errant drive too :( )

MDHacker

one of my buds bought a draw face driver because he had such a big slice...but when I corrected his grip and got him straight, it went left to left....He traded that one in also..

ping for me also....I hit it basically straight so if it goes sideways, it was me and not the 10 oz weight vs the 7 gram weight.....read another funny thing about carl petterson's win...his wife was singing the song from Tommy boy.....fat guy in a little coat...where chris farley tore david space's jacket...a wife can be so cruel.....and here he was winning a million bucks for her..

the only thing I wish I could buy is more distance....maybe put in another gram or too and gain 10 yards.

I used to have an office that bordered one of the Landsdown fairways.  One of the guys in the office used to collect lost balls.  I didn't play in those days, but I did enjoy the view.

pelz and phil both say that having a good sand swing helps the driver because it is the same tempo

did you watch the hilton head pga thing this last weekend? mccord threw in a line that I don't think many people heard.....petterson and nost were on the green at the same time, both of their shirts in front were tying in vain to hold all that poundage  and gary called them an EXCERSIE RESISTANT pairing.

All they need was craig stadler jr. for a threesome.
[/quote]

They had that pairing at the US Open a few years ago in the first two days.  Peterson, Stadler Jr.  and maybe Tim Herron (I'm not 100 percent sure of him) but they were nicknamed the Hefty Boy pairing.

How can you tell when you are a bad golfer? When you can't hit the ocean when hitting off the back of a boat.

So has anyone seen the opportuntiy that The First Tee has to play TPC Avenel on Monday.  You can play for $100 and all the proceeds go to The First Tee.   I was thinking about it, but it's kind of short notice to try and get out on Monday.  Although there are some late tee times around 2:30 available.  So I could get by with a half day....hmmmh.

There are also opportunties to play Piedmond for $69 and it is open Mon through Thursday next week.  Also the Greenbrier and Stonehenge.

Anyone planning on playing these?

I've got a tee time at TPC for Monday morning. I signed up a few weeks ago and was very surprised to find such an easy way to get a tee time at this course. Now that we're closer to the date, the weather is not looking so hot, but I'm not going to complain too much as long as I get out.

Assuming things go well, I like the idea of what they're doing with this program and hope they do it again, maybe with some additional courses next time.

First, I like to protest!  Why not DMV golfers?  Or DC Metro area Golfers?
Does this mean I have to start my own NoVA (Northern Virginia) Golfers?

Things I don’t like about MD Golf:  Lake Presidential.  Over priced and rude staff.  Greens are so slow, I needed a 9 iron to layup on a 10 foot putt.

Things I don’t like about NoVA Golf:  GolfDom.  Service sucks!  Allow me to rephrase that, what service?  They couldn’t get me in there even if they had 50% sale on the most recent and more popular clubs.

Besides that, I enjoy golf in DC, MD and VA (DMV) Laurel Hills rock! :good:

The more I think about it, I should start a VA Golfers thread.  We can have Ryder's cup style format each year. VA vs. MD.  I know how you Maryland boys like to couch up money.

Let me tell you, the sights on the beach have made my jaw drop quite a few times :D  Still, I don't think I'd like to practice here at the beach.  It's like a giant bunker that the foursome in front of you were all in and didn't bother to rake, LOL.  The weather here has gotten better with the waters calming down a bit after last week's 3-7ft waves (normally the ocean is like glass and you can go out 10'-15' and still see to the bottom).  Funny story.  A guy comes up to me on the beach and asks me if I golf (I had an old TM hat on).  I said a little :D  He asked me about the 9 hole and 18 hole course on the island.  I proceed to give him a 5 minute dissertation of the courses and it's condition the last time I played them.  He sits silent for a second then says "sounds like you play more than a little". I just started laughing.
