Last year he was wearing a neon green watch from walmart so I don't think it's bubba being pretentious probably just given to him and so he was wearing it.....that guy seems pretty low key to me.

That watch he is wearing in the photo takes at least a year to make by hand..... And there's a limited number of people in the world that can make that movement. While that's 575k is expensive Patek makes them costing well over 1mil and there is usually a couple year wait list.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $575,000.  You can get them at Walmart for $4.95.

That price tag is nutz! Although the article did mention it was given to him by a sponsor. Pretty nice, still think I like the Audemars Piguets that Lee Westwood and Rory Mclroy rock! Crush all the Rolex and TAG watches that I've ever seen. If my handi-cap ever comes down I'm given AP and Hugo a call!

Regardless of what company is making them any time you see "Minute Repeater" or "Tourbillon" you are taking a minimum $100K to get in.  My best friend since we were born is in the jewelery business and their store (Panerai, Jaeger, Zenith, Hubolt, Constantin, etc nice high end pieces) had a few for the holidays, one actually sold, think it was a rose gold World Traveler from Zenith, price was just a tad south of that . . . crazy . . .

As above, minute repeater and tourbillion = Big time $$$.
The amount of work/detail and craftmanship that go into those is pretty amazing.

Bubba had probably never heard of them before being sponsored either.

My Grandma bought me a watch for graduation. I had never heard of it, and just put it in a drawer as I rarely wear a watch. Plus it was gold and I'm not that into gold jewlery. Years later I went to a function with my wife and wore the watch. A P.A. was talking to me and noticed the watch. He was just all over himself about how nice the watch was which made me feel a little uncomfortable, and curious. I called my Dad and asked if he knew anything about the watch Grandma gave me.
His first question was who made the watch.
I don't know pigget or something, it says Piaget on the face. Ever hear of it?
Over the phone I could hear him about fall out of the chair.
I have since learned it is a very nice, very valuble timepiece.

Just before the matches were starting, you could see Bubba talking about the watch.

About the price; in the banking world when you have guys getting millions of dollars in bonus money annually, the $575K is a drop in the bucket. The worth is in the ownership.

As a sponsorship deal, Bubba was given the watch. He did not buy it.

Yes, Rafael Nadal had one. Emphasis on HAD. He lost his.... Don't know the remainder of the story.

Hey, I would have bought a few cars and still saved some cash!  But he's young and well off.  Whatever his wife lets him get, is good!  And trust me.  His wife let him get it...or he didn't tell her.  Don't be fooled!  :D   :busted2:

bubba's watch is also limited to 38 pieces, which makes it all that much more valuable.  tourbillons take a crazy amount of craftmanship and the inners of that watch is crazy. as previously mentioned, you rarely find a tourbillon under $100K.

i personally don't think its any more crazy that people spending over $10K on a putter.

Okay, I'm good with not understanding it, though I do respect the sort of craftsmanship (and the fascination with craftmanship) of which you speak.

Word.

Though I am somewhat of a watch freak myself and am fascinated with their build (check out the one guy who makes the Gyrotourbillon for Jaeger, he has an online article that walks you through his design and making of the movement, I'll try to link it up).  Unfortunately a MR or TourB will never be something I own.  More than happy with my collection now and what I hope to add to it.

You could just hire someone to tell you the time.

Such a waste of time and money on something so obsolete as a wrist watch.

I think it's an amazing piece of engineering and fine craftsmanship. Yes the price is ridiculous, but it's using the most high tech materials available, and is an amazing piece of mechanical art. And who cares when he doesn't have to buy it, of course you would wear that if it was given to you!
