A buddy and I are heading to Hilton Head in September. Our intent is to play three courses while we are there. Are there any suggestions and recommendations? Does anyone know whether these course are in good shape?

Hey...I am in Savannah and I go to the "Island" as we call it all the time! I can tell you about almost any course you want to know about !

You have some very nice courses right off the island in Bluffton

Old South- Links course usually in great shape
Old Carolina- Very nice course on an old horse farm
Eagles Pointe- Davis Love III design with GPS in the carts ( nice course )
Crescent Point- Arnie designed course GPS also.....Pretty tough
Hilton Head National- Gary Player/ Bobby Weed course ( they have 27 holes )

On island you have the courses on the plantations

Hilton Head Plantation has Oyster Reef Golf Club
Port Royal Plantation 3 courses ( Robbers Rowe is a Pete Dye course )
Shipyard Plantation has 27 holes ( usually in good shape )
Seapines has 3 courses- Sea Marsh, Ocean course ( only 1 hole on the ocean though ) , and the Harbor Town Golf Links ( $$$$ )
Palmetto Dunes has some great courses also !


You have a ton of private course also....all the ones mentioned you can get on.

I have played them all and you cant go wrong with any of them.


If you can swing it ...Play Harbor Town

The Arthur Hills course at Palmetto Dunes was a lot of fun. We also played Old South, which was a pretty good bargain. Old South was a placement type golf course, which we weren't quite ready for early in the season (Northerners traveling south during the weekend before The Masters) we hadn't gotten much practice in yet.

From some other Google searches, I've heard that Harbour Town is not in good shape - particularly for the money. Have you heard that, too?

Presuming that HT is in good shape, what are the other two options that you would suggest?

I have a house on the Island and there a quite a few good public courses, just not great ones. Palmetto Dunes Hills or Jones, HH National, Hampton Hall are a few.
Now, if you can swing your way on to some of the private tracks, you will be delighted. First would be Long Cove, bring your patience and best game!!
Others would be Colleton River, Belfair and Oldfield (really nice track).

I would have to agree with this post. I am in Savannah also and play Blffton/Hilton Head area about once a month. Where do you play in Savannah Eightmilebend? I am a member at Henderson???

Septembers Golf Digest profiles Hilton Head this month. I was just reading about some of the courses, check it out.

I would play Hampton Hall if I was you. It just opened last year (2004) and it is a Pete Dye masterpiece. They have one of the best ranges that I have ever been on. I am pretty sure it is still open to the public. It is in Bluffton as well. I would play it before I played Old South, Old Carolina, etc.

I had a tournament there about a month ago and it was sweet.

I am a member at Waterford Landing in Richmond Hill But I play all over.....I have played Henderson MANY MANY times ! Love the course

Spring Island's Old Tabby Links is absolutely stunning, but good luck finding someone who can get you on.

Check out the 17th hole especially (www.springisland.com).

Hey man, thanks for the tip on Hampton Hall. That place was awesome. The greens were a lot of fun and didn't see many water hazards either.
