No-see-ums.  They are super low profile ones that give the appearance of no socks at all.

Turn in your man cards (including me.)   :busted2:

Just kidding... the answer is white, but only with shorts, and they should be low cut or no-show only.  If you're wearing pants, you should match your socks to the color tone of your pants, even the same color as the pants if you can.

And with Black shoes (admittedly harder to pull of with shorts) the answer is Black, again low cut or no-show only.  With long pants, again you should match your socks closely to your pants.

In all cases, the belt should match the shoes and a cap, if one is worn.  This is totally the wife's influence on me, by the way.  For those of you wondering, yes, there is a pre-game approval of sorts before I walk out the door on my way to the course.   :man_in_love:

Hehehehe, I remember as a young kid growing up in the city, there was a time we wore 2 pairs of knee socks, one pair up to the knee, with a slightly shorter pair outside them.....with stripes.....and shorts:partytime2:

Not golfing though, I didn't pickup golf till I was ~20

First when wearing short always wear short ankle high or no show socks.  I always wear white socks with my white shoes and black socks with black shoes, if you wear brown shoes then go with white.  You can also get away with white socks with black shoes IMO, as long as they are the short ankle high version.  http://store.nike.co...143/pgid-284144

,
I do see some of the younger generation, e.g. Ricke Flower wanna-be's, wear fairly long black athletic socks, just below the calf muscle length, but that is way too cool for me.  :blind:

I'm of the opinion that brown golf shoes should NEVER be worn with shorts.  Brown shoes should be worn with pants only.  There is simply no set of circumstances where brown shoes and shorts looks good IMO...white socks would only make it worse.

Agreed.  My shoes are white but the liner is black so the no-shows really don't show.  White socks would actually stick out more.

I honestly think that Americans own 99.9% of all white socks in the world. Those white "sports socks" are never ok. Not in any setting on any occasion. Sorry. White "no show socks" are fine, like Nike dri-fit running socks.

White shoes + black sock is actually the way to go. No matter what color your pants are.

On an unrelated note I cannot believe all the younger kids here locally that are wearing mid length black socks with shorts and golf attire.  It looks like they're on the basketball team.

I've seen brown ecco street premiers with shorts, those aren't bad.

If the shoes have any hint of black on them, especially if the liner is black, I wear black no shows.  They blend completely with the liner and you hardly notice.  I agree with an earlier poster that white socks against the black liner stick out more.

So first it's always a no show sock, with either pants or shorts for me, but this is where I will stray from the pack, I think what matters is matching your no show sock to whatever the inside color of your shoe is, for me it's black so I wear black no show socks, with white socks it looks funny seeing the white sock black inner of the shoe and then the white of the shoe again. Just my opinion take it for what it's worth.

Where'd you learn this?  I've seen the concept discussed a few times, but I don't agree with it, at least not when white shoes are being worn.  I look at the sock as an extension of the shoes, not vice-versa.
