My in-laws are in Pompano Beach, we are flying into FLL.  I will be there sometime in the month of March.  Last year was my first time playing golf in that area and it was less than memorable, I don't even remember where I played.

This year I would like to play some nicer places but not to exceed $100 per round if that is possible and also near the area where I will be staying. I don't mind driving 45 min to an hour each way but I got on one highway last year where I had to pay a toll every exit it seemed which I quickly got off of and turned around.

Thanks for any info!

As far a public courses in Ft. Lauderdale, Plantation Preserve is very nice but probably the most expensive of the public courses.   Hillcrest in Hollywood is okay.
However, you are probably better off going north a bit.

Palm Beach county has some great municipal courses.  Park Ridge in Lantana is simply great.   The new Osprey Point in Boca Raton is very nice and so is Okeeheelee also in the Lantana area (about 10 miles north of Boca) . Check the Palm Beach County website.   Atlantis is a nice private/public course also.   If you can make it as far out as Wellington, then the Links at Madison Green is outstanding.  All of these should be significantly less than $100 in peak season.

Atlantis looks nice - right now on golfnow it is $65 so that fits the budget.
Hillcrest looks ok - also on golfnow for $39.
Park Ridge looks interesting but no rates posted on golfnow.  I checked their website and it has a bunch of prices depending on time of day same with Osprey Point.
Links at Madison Green looks amazing and at $75 would be a good deal.

Do rates typically go up or down as you progress into the season?

Thanks!

Rates do tend to creep up.  However, Park Ridge, Osprey and Okeeheelee are all municipal and don't ever get much above $60
Atlantis can get up around $90 and Madison Green (my favorite) can get to around $85 or so in peak season.  Golf courses have been struggling a bit for business which has helped to keep rates pretty reasonable, especially on weekdays.  You might also want to check rates at Polo Trace in Delray.  Nice private/public course which, in years past, has charged around $120 but I have heard lately they may be under $100.   Have a great trip!

Any thoughts on Doral and the Great White course?

Just got back and played Heron Bay for $40 on golf now. Defiantly a different level of course than I'm used to. WOW!
