Is there another wedge that he plays like a 54 bc 47-56 seems like a big gap?

On the previous page, it shows and lists a 52 wedge. DS stated earlier that the course Stratton is playing determines his bag make up as he lists 16 clubs.

It has been a WHILE since our last update.  A LOT has been going on but on the club front, it is steady, with no changes. Stratton and his HS team had a huge disappointment after winning their district.  In Regional, they had their worst tourney of the season while last years state champion and the second place team from our district advanced to state leaving Stratton and his team out of the state event for the first time since 2006.  Stratton swallowed his pride and volunteered as a scorer for the state event and got to watch the team that finished second place to us in district win the state championship.  It was a bitter pill to swallow.
Since, he has been hard at work with his classwork and game in preparation for events this summer which will include, the Mexican Amateur in Guadalajara MX, Texas Oklahoma Junior, HP Byron Nelson Jr, Texas State Junior Championship, Junior PGA Championship and USGA qualifiers : Pub Links, US Am.

As far as the wedge question:  Stratton DOES have a 52* but rarely bags it.  He has worked a long time in developing a dead hand 3/4 wedge shot to fill the gap between his 47 & 56.  That shot has become his go to shot many times now.  He will work extensively with his pitching wedge to be able to do "anything" with it.

This week, he was at the HP Byron Nelson in Los Colinas being awarded the Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Award with four others. It was a great week where he was behind the ropes all week until having to leave this afternoon to attend his prom.  Lanny Wadkins who Stratton knows from playing with and against Tucker, was the presenting speaker at the awards dinner.  The trophy is a special trophy since Byron Nelson himself signed numbered trophies in 2008 for the future recipients.  Stratton has trophy #19 in the series since 2008.  This year, the winners were; Viraat Badwhar(AUS) Jim Liu(USA), Stratton Nolen(USA), Robby Shelton(USA) & Guan Tianlang(CHN).  They all were behind the scenes with CBS, Golf Channel and everyone stayed with the players in the Four Seasons on the course.  Stratton had his own suite as well so I am sure it was even more fun for him.  I rode the elevator with Keegan, Kuchar and a couple of other pros this week that was pretty cool.  Stratton followed a lot of former Cowboys this week as well as a few pros he has practiced with here in Austin.  Here are some pics from the Nelson this week and a pic of Stratt and his date for prom this evening.

Upon arriving at the Four Seasons, Stratton had a welcome bag from the tournament with Tour Issue balls, gift cards and passes

We hung out on #17 for a bit on Thursday

Peggy Nelson brought a lot of Byron's memorabilia to the awards dinner to pass around.  It included his gold medal from the Masters, his gold medal lifetime achievement award from congress, and Stratton is holding his award for winning the 1945 Canadian Open which was his record 11th consecutive win.

Each solid pewter & marble trophy was personally signed by Byron Nelson in 2008.  He signed 100 plaques that are placed on the numbered trophies.  Stratton received # 19.

Incredible achievement, really awesome! It's tough to hear he missed state, in Texas you aren't able to qualify as an individual? Or did Stratton unfortunately miss that too?

Missed that as well.  He shot 78-76 in region on a course that he was medalist at three weeks earlier vs. the same competition.  They had completely lost their greens.  They were dirt and scores in general were WAY higher, but it brought everyone together.  The winning team shot 25 shots higher than what won with Strattons team three weeks prior.  Bad way to go down, but everyone had to play on that crap, so it is what it is. Here he is prior to putting out his final putt for his HS career.  The venue should have been moved, this was one of the better greens or "dirts" as they should have been called.  (he had  three 4 putts in two days and all began as a 15-20' birdie putts)  1' putts were not gimmies at all on these greens.  I have never seen so many missed tap ins by everyone.

Man sorry to hear about that. But he is human and if he played perfect every day then it wouldn't be golf, right? It gives me hope that I don't have to shoot 70 every time to play my way in to a d1 school :) . Does he have a favorite club?

Congratulations on the award and on a great HS career. I'm sure he will continue to achieve great accomplishments at OSU also. I still hate to see such great talent not playing for the Longhorns especially when he was right in our own backyard.

Breck... know you're busy but I'll pose the question again-- does he continue to like his Anser irons?  He obviously must if they're still in the bag but is he thinking about anything coming in the pipeline?  I only ask because they're literally the best set of irons I've ever owned which says a lot for as many as I have owned.

Thanks!

Yes, he loves them.  He likes them a lot even over his S56's which he really liked.  He would be all for reducing their size slightly if possible but performance and feel are what he is looking for in irons.  He seems really content with his current setup.  This is as stable as his bag has been in a looong time.  He is always been one to try new things and not hesitate to make changes, but his PING rep emailed me last week to make sure everything was alright, because Stratt has been so quiet. He wants to get everything fine tuned for Mexico in a couple of weeks that will be the start of a busy June/July.
