Tried the drill today on bumpy greens... took me an hour and a half.
Thataboy....It will make it seem MUCH easier on the good greens of the course now :ok:

but MORE IMPORTANTLY, it made you spend and hour and a half practicing putting with full concentration............
Played on smooth greens today, missed only 1 putt inside 10 feet, and had 27 putts on super slick greens. Best putting drill ever, by the end of the drill there is the same amount of pressure as in a tournament putting for the win on 18!! I recommended it to all of my friends. Thanks again DS!

Hey Breck, hope all is well with your health. I'm going to look into the supplements you guys were talking about since I have had dehydration issues in the past. Best of luck to Stratton.

About the laces, I think he leaves them tied at all times. He slips all of his shoes on like slippers. I get on him about that always.  He does it his way though.....
Stratton does his variation of the ladder drill daily on the putting green in his room and at the course. I don't know what his average is, but when I had to pick him up from the course, many times I would have to wait for him to complete it because he will do it over until he completes his drill.  He talked to me last night about practice chipping and had some pretty good insite. He said he does not practice chipping, he practices getting up & down. He will chip two or three balls and then go putt each out. He has sets that he has to get every ball up & down from different areas before moving on. He thinks he gets more out of his practice this way opposed to chipping twenty balls at each pin on the practice green one after another. He has also told me in his room he always putts two balls and try's on both, but one is Tiger Woods and the other is him. He told me he has sunk a LOT of 10' putts to beat Tiger in a Major. I laughed and asked him if he fist pumps when he does and his reply was "of course"  That is the great thing about having a putting green in your room. You can sink a putt and practice fist pumps and celebration without anyone seeing you!  I need to put one of my game cameras in his room sometime :)

I think I saw a couple of those fist pumps on the green last week while we were rolling that new long putter you blued out for him.

It took me an hour and 45 minutes to complete the putting drill the first time!  Am I just an awful putter or is that normal?  How long does it take Stratton to complete it?

He putted great, chipping in the blue grass absolutely killed him.  Basic chips were his problem all week.

He had no time to dwell on it, because he teed it up four days later in the Big "I" National Championship.  He is playing much better this week and has grabbed the lead after two days- 69, 68 in the first two rounds.  He has a four shot lead going into the third round today.  They cut the field yesterday down to top 54 & ties.

The greens are so grainy at the UT Golf Club, putts are breaking uphill if the grain goes that way. At the Jr PGA he never had over 27 putts in a round on bent grass greens.  If his ball striking was on last week like it is this week, he would have contended at the JR PGA. I am back at work so I will have to watch today's round on live scoring. I am off tomorrow to go out and watch the final round.  We were lucky the Big I was here in Texas this year. Stratton has never like the greens on UT GC and has not ever been a big fan of this course. He has played the course well over the years, but complains about it like no other course. Hopefully he can figure the greens out and get the putts to fall like they have been. If that happens, he could turn in a stupid low card.
Here is live scoring for the final two rounds if anyone would like to watch.

"Hey breck has Stratton hit the new anser woods yet? "

Leftytmagger15 - Stratton is scheduled to go to PING to get fit and go through everything in Pheonix next month. I know they are looking at different shafts in his irons, he will be testing with the Anser irons and I am sure he will try the Anser woods as well. Never really know until he gets through testing and what they find works best for him. I will definately keep everyone up to speed with how his testing goes and if he makes any changes. I know he likes what he has seen with the Anser irons and he loves a forged iron feel. I don't think the S55 will be out by then, so next  month will be interesting.  This is the time of year he works in major changes.

Stratton does have a new set of wool old school Custom Travis  Headcovers that are over the top cool. OSU Dreamsicle & White with the OSU Logo!  Havala @travisheadcovers rocks out the best covers in the business.

4 shot swing for Stratton through the first 4 holes. Not in the good way either. Hopefully he can turn it around! It seems like he is a really resilient kid.

Yeah, my wife is there texting me. Went over two back pins on #1 & #3. Over the greens on that course is a big no no. He needs to clean it up in the rest of the round today.

Wow. From her texts it has gone from bad to worse. Coiuple of unplayable lies penalties and he is 6 Over going into 9. Gees.

I think I see a mushroom cloud to the west when I look out of my office window.  My wifes scoring is worse than her texting.  Hope he can do something positive on the back nine.

What a horrible day for him. 6 over front nine and 3 under on the back. All the while he has to watch his competitor birdie 7 out of 8 holes from 9 to 16 shooting a sizzling 64 to set the new course record.  I may need to hurry home and pad his room. Gonna be a quiet dinner at the table tonight :)

I'm sure he will be disappointed, but he is still in contention. Kid in the lead has a bad front nine and Stratton is right back in it. As someone who is only a few years older than Stratton and would kill to has his ability, I know he can go out there tomorrow and do damage.

GOOD LUCK STRATTON!!!

We will see what he has for tomorrow's final round. I talked to him on the phone and he seems fine. He said that Austin made every putt and hit the ball perfect all day. Stratt is at -2 while Austin is now at -8. Hopefully Stratt can flip it on him tomorrow in the final round.

We will take some pics of the covers. He is not gaming them as of yet.

Front nine he said he missed in all the wrong places greenside. Only one bad drive causing the double, but the bogey's were all due to missed approach shots.
Said he missed a couple of 8' birdies on the back nine too, but he was back on track with his irons.

LOL  Welcome to Austin in August!  It has been brutal this week.

Stratt shot -1 in the final round today.  Started off hot and cut the lead to three in the first two holes, but got loose on the rest of the front on a couple of holes and let Austin build his lead back up.  They pretty much just went through the motions on the back nine.  Stratton had an awful double bogey on 16.  He had about a 30' putt up a steep ridge to a pin on top of the slope.  The ball bounced 3" high when it was no more than 5' from him and went to the top of the slope and right back down leaving a 20' putt.  Putts that, the ball looked like it was on the whoops at a motocross track and you guessed it......right back down to him.   Four putt for a double.  It was sad, because he finally putted really well on those god forsaken greens today.  Thank goodness he wont be a Longhorn and have to play those greens day in and day out.  The grain is unreal.  Finished at -3 for the four days and in a three way tie for second place.  His least favorite position.

Thanks for the comments on the EFS OneGoodLoop and Redpro.  I have had some serious complications or "issues" regarding my health this last week that my have been brought forth from the dehydration.  I am hoping for some good news tomorrow following a CT Scan they did on me Friday.
On a BRIGHTER note......
Stratton's putting carpet:
I found online what looked like what we had.  I requested a sample and paperwork came, but no actual sample.  The salesperson also called to follow up and is making sure it was sent, so hopefully I will have an answer for you that want to know.
I DID HOWEVER, buy a set of cup reducer from Big Moss putting greens for Stratton to use in his room.  They actually fit amazingly well and believe it or not, are the SAME carpet, only a shade darker!  It is the same fibers and size pile though.  Stratton actually has two pair now and has been taking one pair in his bag to the course.  He says they work perfect on the putting green.  They are foam inserts that cost $10 a pair.  he has a pair of 2" and a pair of 3".  He loves working on short putts with these reducers and they look great and weigh nothing to carry.  A good tool at a good price.

***Yes, he is still gaming the Black Belly Nome and is still on fire with that putter***  It will be in the bag at the Texas State Junior Championship this week and next week at the Junior PGA Championship.

Deerslayer,

I was curious if you ever received the sample carpet to compare against what is in your son's room.  If so I was wondering if you could share where you got it from.
