best looking Ping iron to date in my opinion... at least over the ball.  The old Eye 2s and Zings had a shape to 'em but alittle crazy over the ball.  Wish Ping made all or most of there clubs in Scottsdale, though!!!

Loved everything about em...

until I hit em.

They set up perfect, look wonderful, inspire a ton of confidence.  But I'm a digger, and the bounce on these is almost non-existent.  I hit the nastiest divots I've ever hit with these things.  They feel great when you make contact, and if you are a slider/sweeper, they would be perfect.  But if you tend to get steep and dig a bit, BEWARE!!

Never been a Ping fan, until now. I seriously think these are the best iron on the market today, and thats coming from a guy who currently has MP68's in the bag (prob not for long). These have a surprising amount of forgiveness, great solid feel and they cut thru the turf perfectly for me. Its only a matter of time until I get a set of these.

Here's my review I wrote back in November. Awesome set of clubs, I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about them.

I have had these in the bag since last Feb. I can say I love these irons. These are the first Ping irons I have used. Prior to these I was a Hogan Apex blade fan but the Hogan company is kaput. When the search beagn I tried Mizuno blades, and Titleist blades. When my local Pro brought me these for a whirl I was doubtful. All of this changed when I started making contact with these sticks. I loved the feel and the look of the irons. I found I could really work the ball and I was sold. I dearly hope that Ping produces more 'players clubs.' If you are in the market for new irons then give these sticks a try. You may be surprised at what Ping has done!

I went from I3 blades, to S59, and this spring bought the S56.

Before you think I'm a club ho, I had the I3's for over 10 years, and bought the S59's used, and had to give them up to my son.

The S56 are great, I love them.  A lot.  I have steadily gotten better with them over 5 months.

One thing though...the steel is softer than most pings, so shots where you catch a rock (I play the ball down, always) will nick them.  Oh well, the clubs are so good, it's worth it.

The 59's were probably just as long, but the 56's are a more precision instrument.

Best iron's I've ever played. Sets up beautifully.. feels damn close to a forged blade, but with much better freedom on tough lies. No complaints. Just WINNING.

I've got about 5 rounds under my belt with mine.  I ordered my set with the new CFS shafts, hard-stepped with Cushin inserts.  I am coming from playing i10s with S300s that were in my bag for 5 years, save for a few failed experiments.  Side by side, the S56 blades don't look much smaller than the i10s and are certainly a more traditional shape.  The CFS shafts feel a little tighter than my S300s, and I like that so far.  It seems like I am getting a few more yards of distance than my i10s.  They appear to be about the same forgiveness wise.  The soles are perfect for me, but I am not a big divot taker.

Now, for feel...

Anyone else think the impact feel is very unique with these irons?  To me, it is very solid and satisfying...not as soft as a mizuno forging, but just as satisfying nonetheless...maybe even more.  It feels like there is a ball peen hammer behind the sweet spot when you hit it solid, and it provides the sensation that you are just crushing the golf ball.  The more I hit these, the more I am loving this feeling.  I have hit a lot of golf clubs, but never one that feels like these at impact.  It is very unique and very cool!

Anyway, I'll report back after I have some range time and at least a dozen more rounds with these, but so far, so good.

I will be purchasing these irons within the next month.  I tested different irons and they all seemed to be performing about the same.  I decided to give the S56's a try and the first shot felt like butter...as did the next shot and next and so on.  I decided to demo these at an outdoor range instead of inside on a launch monitor and it was even better than I expected.  Wanted to try them with the KBS Tour x-stiff shaft but they did not have it so I gave the DG X-100 a try and fell in love.  I proceeded to hit  perfect baby draws with the 7 iron out to the 175 yard green again and again.  My current 7 iron was about 5-10 yards short and not as consistent.  I look forward to putting these irons in the bag for the 2012 season.

Well, I was able to order these irons sooner than I thought...and they arrived faster than I expected.  Order was placed Monday (1/23) for 4-PW, Blue dot, DG X-100.  I had the 4 iron bent 2* strong and 5 iron 1* strong so I could add an extra wedge and not need a 3 iron.  They arrived the same week on Friday (1/27), I have to say that Ping made me more of a supporter just for that reason.  I've been to the range twice since receiving them and other than trying to practice with them in 40 degree temps I love them.  Definitely going to take a few more range sessions to adjust to the switch from Project X to DG but my control is already improved.  I can safely say that this golf season should be enjoyable.

It's interesting that some have issues with the bounce angles and digging...according to Ping's website, the S56 actually has more bounce than their classic Ping Eye 2+, which had the rolled soles on the 9 and W.  Do they not play like the bounces listed?

They actually cut thru the turf more than my Scratch SB-1 with the driver slider grind. I'd say they definitely play like they have less bounce than they actually do.

Had these clubs for a month now and love them.

I am a digger and take a healthy divot, unlike previous posters im not strugling with taking too big a divot, id say the turf interaction is more positive and the club glides through the turf with more ease, which I feel is an improvement.

I have the CFS Stiff shafts fitted and they are very good, one thing I would say is the CFS play a tad softer than my previous Irons.

The irons do feel soft and the insert behind the face does a great job of softening the feel of the strike, dont be put off either by the "Better players Irons" statements, if you have a reasonably good strike you will be able to use these clubs as there is a fair amount of forgivness on offer.

Great clubs and if they release the S55 this year then prices will fall.

I own the Ping S57 and ive tested them with the S56 and there is no difference for me. They are the best clubs out there, they play like pure blades but they are very forgiving. any low handicapper would love them and a mid handicapper would still be able to benefit from them correctly. great clubs and i suggest you should go try them., Ping make amazing clubs. doesnt matter if they reléase new ones or not mate. to spot the differences between them is really hard.
Bubba Watson played the s59 for a long time, i think that when the s57 were out he was still on the 59's...
Best line of clubs ping has ever made.
cheers

Played 990's for a long time, switched to the 710 AP2 and thought those were the best out. I was wrong, the S56 is the best iron I've played to date and would put them up against anything else out there. Look forward to the S55's and the improvements they've made on an already awesome club!

Im playing i200s now with Nippon 105X.  Theyre very forgiving with a soft feel, but I still remember that "crushed it" feel of the S56s.  Loved those irons...
