I have asked this question before, albeit in a different fashion...

What do you figure the handicaps are on the various tours on average?

There really isn't a way of honestly knowing since golf Pro's aren't required to keep a handicap, they're expected to be scratch.

But more than likely they're in the +3 - +6 range on the PGA, I believe Tiger is like a +8
(correct if I'm wrong here guys)

We occasionally have tour pro's play in some games at our club. They usually play between +3 to +5. We have two or three members in this range as well.

The handicap system is really screwy once you get under scratch and definately isn't meant for players of that level. For instance, we have a player with an index of +4.8 at our club. From the men's tee's that makes him a +6, but a +7 from the championship tees. Definately shouldn't be penalized for adding 600 yards to the course.

As far as handicaps on various tours, I doubt you'd see a whole lot of difference. I know a +2.2 who played JC golf, a +2.4 who plays NAIA golf, a +5.1 who plays NCAA golf, and the +4.8 above who plays mini-tours. The last two of that group give strokes to PGA guys if playing in a net game.

Unfortunately, I don't have the talent to ever worry about that being an issue for me.

I was just wondering, there is a chance that I will be playing in a group with a pro, and I was curious since they don't routinely keep a handicap, what they should play to and what would be fair for everyone involved.

Let the pro play to scratch and add four strokes to everyone else's handicap, but no one get's more than 18 shots (one per hole). Depending on the game you play, that's fair and the pro most likely won't have a problem with it.

Given how the handicap system works, +4 is more than fair.

The closest thing I have ever seen regarding a pro's handicap was an article in either Golf Magazine or Golf Digest on Paule Creamer who said she thought she was about a +4.
