New to GolfWRX and getting back into the game.  Trying to play at least once a week, while I used to play three times a summer the last few years.  This is an incomplete set, but it is working for me okay.  At this point I am more concerned with getting my mechanics in tune rather than buying a full set.  I didn't want to purchase the driver with the sky marks, but it was the only stiff flex and I couldn't miss out on the price.

As a recent college graduate on a strict budget, I am glad to have been able to get this used make shift set for less than $160 in total.  When I improve my ball striking and lower my handicap I will invest in a new set.

Here is the set now:

Driver: Taylor Made R 580XD 10.5 Stiff (Stock Shaft)
Irons: Titleist DCI 981's (regular flex but should be using stiff)
Putter: Ping Pal 4

*I recently lost my 9 iron and still cant locate it.

Eventually I am looking to fill my bag as follows:

Driver-9.5
3-Wood
Hybrid-17
Irons 4-PW
GW-52
SW-55
LW-58 or 60
Putter

Currently shoot around 90.  I hit irons well, but my putting is hurting my score.  For my next set of irons I am considering these options:

Mizuno MP 63's
Ping SV 56's
Adams CB 2's
Taylormade R9 TP

What else should I consider that is comparable to these irons?

Welcome. That's a great first post. It looks like you have your priorities right. All that for $160, great job. Thanks for posting.

For a good set of irons that you can pick up for not much is the Srixon-I-701 Tours, or if you are looking  for more forgiveness the normal I-701. I have gamed them both and both are great irons for the money.

i gamed the 981's for a loooooooooong time. it got to the point where the offset was killing me and they literally felt dead. went from hitting my 9 iron 150 to struggling to hit it 125 lol!

got a set of idea pro forged irons and 9 iron is now 160 and the feel is ooooooooooooooooo so nice.

I hit irons better than woods.  For my next set of irons I am considering these options:

Your next purchases be the following clubs:

- 980 5-wood (check ebay)
- a singleton 9-iron
- a gently used Vokey LW

The end.
MP600
Cleveland Launcher (09) 15*
Cleveland TA7 2-iron DG S/L
Cleveland TA1 3-9
Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58
Cleveland Classic 2
