Since the beginning days of coming to golf forums and golf chat rooms, I've managed to play with several around our area here in Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and Wisconsin, and as usual, it has always been a pleasure.
This past week, I was visiting my son in Logan, Utah and he and I played up there and around that area for almost a week before deciding to travel to Salt Lake City and meet up with another WRX'r here. On Friday we met beruo at a course called StoneBridge in North Salt Lake.
Our drive to SLC was a good trip, with the weather in the upper 80's to start the day out with. By the time we reached SLC the temps were nearing 100 with little or no wind. This course, StoneBridge was a first time play for all of us, the course was a good course, maybe in need of water in the fairways and possibly in need of new cut cups and mowed greens but other than that it's a good test.
From the tips, the course played over 7100 yards and from the blues, it played right at 6600 yards. StoneBridge is a links style course with what appeared to be ample fairways but once you got out there, not so much as you thought there was.
My biggest complaint was Adam and George were always talking when I was hitting the ball, I thought they'd never shutup. I would have played lots better but my back was starting to spasm a little, I suggested we scramble but both of them said no, oh well.
Adam was the longest of the three of us averaging just over 380 yards, George averaged about 310 yards and i dragged up the rear averaging just under 300 yards carry with slight draw and high carry with little or no roll out, I'm a pretty good golfer you know.
This was one of the hottest days I have ever played golf in anywhere, George hadn't slept in a day and a half and Adam? Well hell man, he's young, heat didn't bother him and he had plenty of sleep, therefore he shot under 80, while the other two guys in our group had a hard time keeping it under 95 but we all had fun. I do know that several geese were damned glad to see us leave though.
We retired to the Red Iguana where we fed our faces with an awesome mexican feast with many lemonaids. We stretched the truth to it's limits, got to know each other a little more, belched, passed gas, said our goodbyes, George headed home to his family and we headed back to Logan, and a good time was had by all.
If any of you guys ever get together with other WRX'rs, I hope that your experience is as good as mine and my son's was with George, my only wish was that Reid, Lance, Scott, Cory, and Wags, just to name a few could have been with us.........Maybe next year.
Great thread Mac. I had a great time meeting you and Adam. It was good to see that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and that you are every bit the character in real life as you are online. I was EXTREMELY impressed with Adam's length off the tee, and from the fairway, and from the rough, as well as with your ability to apply lead tape in a non-intrusive, almost artistic way. You guys were also somewhat gifted with the gab as well. It was too bad that I left my game on the range with my 7-iron though. At least I was able to get my 7 back after the front nine, but I found myself at 200 yards out on 8 of the first 9 holes and was forced to hit a cut 6.
The only things that were a little disappointing to me was that it turns out I don't like Johnny Miller all that much (designed stonebridge and next week's thanksgiving point ), and I feel that I could have had a better showing at the Red Iguana had I not been awake for 28 straight hours. Mac ate me under the table!
I seriously look forward to meeting up with both again (jury's out on drstroud, will report next week. ). I'll refrain saying anything too nice about Mac at this time. Heaven forbid I end up cracking the same jokes when I'm asked to eulogize him.
you guys are animals... is the air that thin ? I was murdering the ball at spyglass the other week and was lucky to knock some off from the tips at around 300. Ofcourse that's basically sea level.

I think some of the distance claims were made with creative license--I certainly don't hit a 7-iron 200 yards, but I certainly didn't have a career day out there. I will attest to the difference the altitude makes though. I make serious adjustments in club use and bag setup whenever I play at sea level. That said, amajeski is probably THE longest player I have ever seen. Great combination of distance and accuracy and one of the few board members whose claims I would believe without question (largely in part to the fact that I have yet to see him make any).
I can't recall any exact distances (mostly because I was usually a good bit behind him hitting my second shot despite playing from the blue tees ), but one of the holes that sticks out was the 580+ (he played from tippy-tips) he was just over the green with his driver then rescue. Thing was, I'm sure that wasn't even his longest drive of the day, and he had only played a total of 4 rounds this year--all taking place that week. I'll tell you, that graduate school thing he's doing is really hurting his game.

Talk about animals....You should have heard George growl when he hit the ball...GGGRRRRRRRR!!
I'm a very good golfer, I usually hit it very long.....I'm A Very Good Driver!... You Know!
amajeski is pretty long, truly.
I did bust one right down the middle of the first hole, the ball rolled off the fairway and into the lake.
I have played at sea level in Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, and I'd say I loose about 20 yards.......Soooooooooo! that would make my drives about......Oh say.....2ish.

Damn grad school... This thread has been going for a day now and this is the first I've seen of it. I guess I need to get my priorities in order .
To reiterate what has been stated above, it really was a blast to play with George and my old man. No one played great but we all had our moments, and a heck of alot of fun. In the end that's what it's all about anyway - chasing the little white ball among friends. Besides, between the Beruo voodoo doll I made, my old man being well, old, and my luck to be young, reasonably hansom, and well rested, they never had a chance . And as for that drive on 18 - I hit it so hard my kids might be born with a headache I was really supprised how far that puppy chased down there... Or, it could be on account of the superior grade of titanium in my 510DF, with the tour van chatter to prove its authenticity - and it is the pre-serial number version so we know it's juiced like Major League Baseball
i know that if any WRX's are in the Pittsburgh area, please let me know and we can try to hook up!

Fire me a PM. Live in Pittsburgh.
Fellas, I am an hour west of da burgh...just played with a wrx'er up in Cleveland couple weeks ago. Send me a pm or reply on this thread if you want to get a round going
Damn! I've been hanging out here for a few months and sorry I didn't hear about this gathering unitl now. I'm in Salt Lake and would've loved to get in on it.
I last played Stonebridge about 6 weeks ago. Playing a 2-man best ball at Thanksgiving Point this Saturday.
Adam you shoulda told George to tuck his shirt in.
Well... I wore my white belt and he didn't give me any grief so I figured we were even

Were those shots from #9 on the Creekside 9?
You guys are brave hitting driver there! I hit 2 iron and still get in trouble!
Yup, 9 on Creekside. The old man needed the big dog because he needs all the pop he can get and George hit driver because, well, why the heck not . I also hit driver from the tips but smothered it miles left... left of left, but just right of the parking lot so she was still in play
WTF?!? This thread is going downhill in a hurry. Notice that the peanut gallery starts chiming in when pictures are posted. Adam, I thought you were busy with school! When did you have time to photoshop the ball going left and 50 lbs. onto my @ss? Actually, the weight might have something to do with my daily Häagen-Dazs/Ben&Jerry cocktail (it's for my glaucoma ).
Andy, you should be thoroughly satisfied with the baddness of the current pics. I didn't bust out the pink tutu until afterwards when we hit the karaoke bars . . . now THOSE were some pics.
See this is why communism failed, Poland couldn't be trusted to hold up their end in the Warsaw Pact (I just re-realized, everyone in our group is of Polish descent). Let this be a lesson to everyone: If one of your playing partners insists on teeing it up from the blacks when everyone else is white or blue and just happens to be a Pollock . . . well, your picture just might show up on the NATO blooper wall.
As for the untucked shirt, let's just say that I was the only one who showed up that day in the fruity white belt, and beruo is, if anything, a conformist.
I'm hosting the next one OK! Get your butts down here for some seriously good golf courses and even seriously better beer
Boonie, I've heard there are freighters leaving out of Oakland, California in the fall, I think I could get a job chipping paint and general maintenance and work my way to Aussieland.
You would have enjoyed the outing, even though the temperature was hovering right at 100* and between the three of us, the humility was high also.
Just reading this makes me smile...I can only imagine the witticisms....oh yeah and I love playing golf at altitude.
With the lattitude and the altitude, the humidity along with the humility, witticisms and sarcasm, puns and just plain wise cracks, a good time was had by all, and Shoe, you'd have fit right in with us.
The thing is, since my return to civilization, my game has gone to hell, not sure if I'm missing playing with those guys or if they effected my game to that extreme.
