Currently own a r9 460 with stock shaft and thought the length was 45.75 inches. However, when i went to Golf Galaxy to have them shorten it for me to 44.75 the salesmen told me it was 45.5 inches. He measured the driver with the original grip removed so i am wondering if that accounts for the 1/4 inch difference. In the end he marked the shaft at 44.75 , cut it, added a winnlite grip and said it would play at 45".  Does this sound correct to you?  Thanks.

It should be 45.75 from the factory.

My R9 460 measured just a little under 45.5 on a Mitchell shaft board with the factory shaft.  Also, my SuperDeep (that is listed at 45.5) measured 45 inches.

The grip typically adds 1/8" to clublength.  The other 1/8" may be explained by measurement method and/or production tolerances.

I am wondering if the adjustable hosel, and the way it is inserted/tightened, adds another 1/4"?

I am wondering if the adjustable hosel, and the way it is inserted/tightened, adds another 1/4"?

there is only one way to insert it and if tighten properly you will hear a loud click so if the process is done correctly i doubt it will add any length. Are the OEM's giving the public their driver lengths with or without the grip installed?

My Superdeep measured 45. I talked to Taylormade and the rep said it was 45.5. I asked how they measured and he did not know but there is something up with all of this. It is also the same length as my 425 TP. I am actually happy about this but it seems like something is different in the way Taylormade is reporting club lengths.

I see a lot of differences in their specs and actual measurements.  The r9 460's I have measured always measure 45.5".  The Matrix Ozik 4.8 shaft in the Superfast Burner is supposed to weigh 48 grams is actually about 60 gm.  The lofts on the Burner '09 irons are typically 1 degree weaker than advertised.  The Kia Ma putters measure about .5" less than the supposed length. I work in club repair so I see this stuff all the time.

Thats good to know. I have experimented alot and i know i need a driver at about 44.5 to no more than 45 inches in length. At this lenght <i am 5'10"> i seem to hit the sweet spot every time! I had it cut to 44.75 so with the grip added i think i am just under 45.

Newer models of grips these days add 1/4", which I think accounts for the difference.

So just to turn this discussion a bit, whatever the actual final length is, what is the standard length of the R9 shaft, adapter and grip combo?  Is it like a bit over 44.5 consistently?
