Ohhh this thread will get legs fast. When I grew up (im 43) and started playing golf at about 10 years old, you would not show up at the golf course with your shirt untucked..NO WAY! As we all know, times have changed. I go about 50-50 now with tuck or untuck. However, I still think that a tucked shirt with a nice matching belt is an overall better look.

Depends on the club and foursome.   Prefer untucked (seems like it gets better ventilation and is more comfortable), but tucked looks better and is likely more appropriate.

tucked, but if its extremely hot or through the course of the day, it gets untucked, no big deal.  However, I have seen some people that come to the course looking like they just got ouuta bed and that looks in-appropriate.  You are playing a gentlemens game, so try and look like it.

lol this is a classic thread! my take on this is depends on whos wearing the shirt and what type of shirt it is!  is it a tall skinny guy, a short stocky guy, a shirt thats properly designed to be worn untucked, or a shirt that is def meant to be tucked in ?  Im a short chunky guy myself so I wear alot of dri fit zip collar type shirts that are designed to be worn either way and I typically wear them untucked cuz i dont look good with my gut stickin out!  

On a side note here in Michigan and Im sure other places in the country have been hit hard by the economy I have noticed that at least here in MI golf courses have laxed on golf attire dress codes.  I was playing a pretty high end course yesterday in MI rated top 25 in the state and used to be a pretty exspensive place to play but now has come down on rates.  Long story short wife and I caught a 3 some on the 5th hole and one of the players was wearing a white t shirt tucked into jeans with a massive beer gut sticking out,  and wearing a orange/green mossy oak camo hunting hat.  Was the worst dressed golfer I have ever seen and my wife and I had a good chuckle over it.

I'm tucked in back and un-tucked up front. If I don't un-tuck up front I can't move. Not to mention, it won't stay tucked in up front due to my spare tire around my waist!

untucked till its gets cold. Then its slacks and shrts to keep warm and comfortable. But in summer, my untucked look goes with my 2 index. So i guess not all good golfers are tucked.

It's averaging 38*-40* celcius here in SE Asia and the air is almost liquid. My club has a strict dress code, shirts must be tucked in and long pants at all times! Picture this, you're walking 18, you're looking like a wet dog after just 2 holes, you have some serious climate control issues going on underneath your pants and a snooty idiot committee guy rolls up in his cart and cautions you 'cause your bl@@dy shirt tail's hanging out!

I figured this poll was a joke.  

Knowingly going untucked?  Why would anyone choose to look like a slob when they play?  

Though when you are playing in cutoff jean shorts, OR cargo shorts, untuck all you like.  There's no way to save your look at that point anyway.  

How the hell are you supposed to see my $85 Lacoste belt if I go untucked?

Tucked, unless it's a hawaiian shirt.  Unfortunately, lots of golf shirts today are made way too loose around the middle, so I can see how tucking in some shirts can be awkward.  There are some "golf shirts" I have that I avoid actually golfing in--apparently, the widening of America has left some manufacturers convinced that no one can actually be 5'9 and under 160 lbs.

Better question: what about sweaters?  Tuck them in?  Leave them out?  Depends on the sweater?  (I'm in the third camp.)

To be honest, Mine really depends on my type of shirt. For example if it is a Nike Dry fit type of shirt then I would tuck it in. I have other shirts that are 100% cotton and very thick. It feels very weird to tuck those in so I leave them out.

I thought this poll was a bit of a joke too. Tucked or untucked? Really? I didn't know this was Milan at fashion week, I was under the misguided belief it was a game, a game called golf. It appears I've tripped and wandered into the middle of a discussion about the merits of a tucked or untucked shirt. I play golf to have fun. I play golf to shoot a score. I must be forgiven for not keeping constant track of whether my shirt is in or out.  If a club, regardless of name, ever tells me that I can't play with an untucked shirt, they can stuff it. I've played many fine courses around this great country of ours and never once has a remark been made about my untucked shirt. The first time that comment is uttered will be the last time I darken the door of that particular establishment. I simply don't like the way golf feels all tucked in. It's not comfortable and I don't feel free.

It depends who I'm playing with. If it's my friends who wear tshirts and shorts, then I'll go untucked (yes, I still wear a polo even though they don't). If it's with my friends who dress up a little more, then I'll consider going tucked but prefer untucked. It also depends on what course I'm playing. If it's one of my local courses, I know the dress is pretty casual. If I'm at an "away" course, then I'll go tucked.

ChunkyChips! i can sympathise playing here in Malaysia and having to look like a 'catwalk' model is more important to the commitee than having rakes in bunkers and sand in divots etc. It a joke, first time i rolled up to play i had a Jim Furyk style buttoned shirt untucked and was told to immediately change it and make sure i always tuck my shirt in. Could go on but at least the sun is shining.

Tucked in when wearing Longs, 50/50 when wearing golf shorts.

Usually it works out that for the high end courses or comp days i wear long pants so its a tucked shirt and nice belt, etc for the mid level courses its 50/50 tucked/untucked with shorts - usually weather and temperature dependent.

I think it all comes down to how someone presents themselves, having a badly creased shirt or pants or non matching belt or shoes etc isn't going to be saved by tucking, like wise a well presented shirt/short/pant/shoes/hat still looks good untucked IMO.
