He shot 61 on Thursday and mentioned in his press conference that he put new irons in the bag this week. Anyone know what he switched to?

Sorry if this has already been covered-- tried a search and didn't see anything.

From all the shots i saw today on TV looked like he was hitting the S56 and a ping putter also.

Did I see him wearing a TM hat and his caddie wearing a titleist hat?  I also saw what looked like ping S56's and TM woods....

I just jumped on the forum to see if anyone knew what irons he had, as they looked like either the Ping Ansers or the S56s. I guess most are giving the nod to the S56s.

PING has posted on Facebook that he in fact won with S56's. He put them in his bag the day before the Monday Qualifier.  All I can say is WOW... these irons are either 1st or 2nd in almost every event since the US Open, the first tourney available.

Not sure I would call him a "non-TM player"-- he was wearing a TM cap and had the TM tour bag.  That having been said, he was clearly using Ping irons and putter.

I'd be willing to bet that he's a Taylor Made player according to the TM marketing department when the press release comes out.

He had a matrix in his driver. Not sure which one but you could tell during the hd telecast yesterday. Glad to see someone win after a long battle with everything he has faced.

I would definitely agree with you on that, but I don't consider a player using only using 2 clubs and wearing a TM hat a TM staffer, not like Retief, D. Johnson, S. O'hair, etc.

If you mean No company would pay him big money for an exclusive bag?   I bet you will see more of one company now that he is a winner on tour.

Not really what I meant...goydos had said publicly he would not chase "big money" and be forced to play something that produced mixed results.  See Ryan Moore for better example.  Also, guys who switched from Titleist balls and have not won since.

Goydos said that until he almost won and then he signed for Big bucks.  Ryan Moore got part ownership of an up and coming company. He's not above money, he is just getting part ownership instead of a big cash deal.

I'm pretty sure goydos did not give up all his favorite sticks through the years and then shot 59 with all new stuff.  You are preaching to the choir dude...I read the stuff same as you.

Moore set a great example, and verbatim said I will not be forced, over money, to play a club(s) that is not right for me.  I know about the part ownership thing...hope Scratch clubs don't get even more expensive now.  I like the guy and pull for him, think he set a very good example.

 I'm not sure that Atwal is an endorsement money eschewing crusader as much as a lower order pro who, in the absence of a full equipment deal, simply took the chance to earn a few bob from Taylor Made via some driver and fairway wood/hybrid tee up cash. With a few extra quid thrown in for using a logoed TM staff bag.

There are any number of pros doing the same thing. Tim Herron and Billy Mayfair are two others who immediately come to mind. Both are, on the face of it, Taylor Made staffers to the general public, but just like Atwal are sporting Ping kit in the majority of the slots in the bag.

Arjun Atwal's victory in the Wyndham Championship marked the first time a player Monday qualified for a PGA Tour event and went on to win in 24 years.  And it may have been due in part to a new set of Ping's S56 irons that Atwal picked up just before qualifying.

"I put new irons in the bag this week," said Atwal, who has won in Europe and on the Nationwide Tour.  "I never practiced with them, And my first round of golf with them was in the Monday qualifier, and I'm really happy the way I'm hitting them so I'm happy with that."

Atwal had to Monday qualify after suffering from shoulder injuries and losing his PGA Tour card last month.

Needing some sort of change to kick-start his game, Atwal said he put the Ping irons in his bag because he "just felt like it."  The S56 irons are the same clubs that Louis Oosterhuizen used to win the Open Championship and since being introduced mid-summer, have now racked up five worldwide wins.

I remember a few years ago he was the number one ranked putter on tour, and he was under contract by Ping. Then I think he went to TaylorMade and kept his S59's until switching to the 56's. Cool to see Ping loyalists sticking with their stuff even after they part ways.
