Going to invest in a new putter as i'm due a change. The Odyssey #9 shape really appeals to me and I always feel that they sit nicely on the ground. I'm just looking for some reviews really and opinions. I'm coming from a Nike Method 003 so not much contrast in shape really. Any help will be appreciated.

I have been a anser style guy for years and a few mallets scattered in....I had never gamed a heel shafted style but had demoed them in the pro shop on the carpet type thing and politely put them back. Well, the inner ho took over and I took the plunge with a #9 When I made the decision to "go for it" I tried the Cleveland, Cameron and other Odyssey versions but ended up with the Tour Black Design putter. I really think there is something to the tungsten back plate and how it distributes the weight different than the others.

I could not be happier!! my backstroke is shorter - not choppy short, but short because the ball just rolls so smooth and true. Less length in my backstroke means a less margin for error coming back through. after a short adjustment period, it has been money! the feeling is top shelf all the way compared to the others I tried - love the milled face. The set up is easy classic with no distractions. I am more confident than ever with this putter, and that goes a long way, know what i mean?!? well worth the investment vs. the others I tried.

I played a Cameron Del Mar 3.5 for awhile and decided to the Black #9 a shot.  Only issue I had with it was the balance of the head .. the toe wants to close severely.. even at address .. I couldn't get used to that.

I've notice the same thing with the #9's. I had hoped the black series wouldn't be like that, but nope - same closed face setup. Ironically the only version that I've found that doesn't setup like that is the new white hot XG 2.0, which is of course their new base model.

i game various #9's and i like the fact that it closes automatically.  when you square it up before you putt you know you have to keep that lock in your wrist to keep the face square through impact. takes your hands completely out of the stroke which is what all good putters do. even putters who look like their blade opens and closes that is due to their arc in their stroke, not movement of their hands.

This is so true and very well said.  Great putter and really does 'force' you to take your hands out of the swing or it will go left.  Once you get the feel for this the putter is close to automatic

Currently gaming this putter and have to agree with previous posts that this puts a great roll on the ball.  Rolls the ball as nice as anything Ive tried, cameron's and betti's included.  Has a nice soft feel but still has a slight click.  Very good distance control.  I personally dont notice the closed look that others are talking about.  During the swing the toe closes quickly and automatically but what can you expect from a heel shafted putter.  A very solid putter all around.

I recently purchased a #9 TD and mostly agree with the above posts.  However, mine sits square and (coming from a NP2) it basically forces you to have a little more forward press than you would with a plumbers neck model.  I can't complain about the roll, but the feel is borderline TOO soft.  Not soft like an insert putter, but it's definitely softer than my buttonback.  I'm still getting used to it and the verdict is still out if it will kick my buttonback out of the bag.  Great looking putter though!

I love the #9 Black Series....still using a Rife Abaco because of the roll grooves but the feel of the Black Series is better....can't see or notice any difference in the roll between the Black Series and the Abaco.

Over there in the US you don't have the Black Series iX model....

I have had a go with both the iX and the Tour Design - the iX is softer and feels really nice. The Tour Design is firmer, and probably more suited to greens here in the UK and I would have thought the iX with the White Ice insert would suit most areas in the US as you have better maintained and faster greens??

Personally for me I would take the iX, even over here in the UK; but I wouldn't turn down the Tour Design either!

Trying real hard not to pull the trigger on one - I only just bought the Abaco back in April!! Before that, I had been using the Two Ball SRT White Steel (with a steel insert in the white insert!) since 2005/6!

I love the Odyssey #9 in most of their iterations. I like that it seems to set up closed as I seem to be ridiculously accurate with it. It's not closed but it promotes a forward press that makes it look that way. They are the only #9 head I can constantly look at. Had a SC Cali Del Mar but quickly got rid of it. Looked too square which had me pushing right, and the face was too tall. I, however, don't like the Odyssey Tour Black #9. Looks great and the face-milling is nice but it feels dead to me, and I don't like how the ball comes off the face.

No maintenance issues.  I've gamed it all year and it's been MY ONLY PUTTER in the bag. That's saying something.  Nice feel.  Never noticed the toe closing too quick.

I have a Method 003 here and have a TD #9 on the way.  Can't wait to see which is the keeper.

I'm considering buying the Black Series #9 too, but I'm also looking at the Taylormade TP Kia Ma Maranello.  I've been playing an 8802 style putter for 12 years and have grown accustomed to the heel-shafted putters, but I think a mallet would help me line up my shots a bit better, also hoping the extra weight helps me get the ball to the hole (been leaving it short lately).

Maybe I'm weird, but for the #9 styles, I actually prefer the Cleveland Classic #2. Something about that club is just money, and even though it's not carbon steel, I love it. It's my backup and lately I've been gaming it over my Scotty pro plat np2 and loving it. I want to torch it now and see how that will look, but I don't have the means to get a torch or the knowledge, lol.

I know this is an older topic, but im thinking about buying one of the tour design #9's...is it still worth getting one or is odyssey going to come out with something different soon?

Hard to beat the Odyssey Tour Black #9! I have one with a SuperStroke 'Ultra Slim' grip and it's absolutely money! The putter does not set up closed. It just looks that way to some people, as it's designed for a slight forward press (one of the requirements for an optimal stroke/role).

Picked this putter up for 229 1-2 yrs ago (can't remember). I don't switch putters often and I won't be for a long time. This putter is simply amazing. I tested scotty's against this and it blows them away in terms of feel for me. The cleveland classic that was 59.99 was very close to this but the black finish on this is beautiful and I found the ball rolls better coming off this and a little bit better feel.

It also looks sick :P

Yep, the price is supposed to be effective today at $99.98 but I got a flyer in the mail Monday that had the $99.98 price for their 45th anniversary (or something like that) but I called the store and they gave it to me at the $99.98 price Monday so I didn't have to come back to the store, I thought that was nice! :)
