EDIT: Topic title changed 9/30/10. David Duval is playing the Viking classic with new clubs and new apparel. Not a swoosh in sight. See post #88.

From the first round of Turning Stone. DD has used every Nike driver since the Ignite. What do you think prompted the change?

Id be surprised if Duval left Nike, Nike has been too go to him through his ups and down and continued to shell out big contracts to him.

Maybe it's Nike leaving David?

Perhaps his contract ends at the culmination of the 2010 season.

..or he needed the tee up money...

Actually he used Nike drivers even before the Ignite. He was on board with em at the get go basically. He used the 275cc Nike driver initially. Im still confounded that no one is gaming the superdeep on tour.

Padraig Harrington is using one (hidden under a Wilson headcover) and Shane Lowry had one last week at the Irish Open under a Srixon headocver

It is very rare to see a player using all the clubs of a certain company. It is always fun to sit on a tee box of a PGA event to see what they are hidding under covers!

Not only are there not many gaming it on tour, but I just saw that the retail price of the Superdeep is now $399 vs original $599.

he likely does not have a full 14 club deal, remember he has used varying fairway woods (fourteen, TEE), cobra wedges, scotty putter, etc in the past.

He probably just has a hat-apparel/bag/ball (maybe irons) deal and then can use whatever else he wants.

Good for DD. As much as his driving as held him back especially the past 2 years, I'm quit surprised he has not put something else into play sooner.

+1

His contract is very similar to Tigers (- a couple of dollars) he can play whatever he wants.

Anthony Kim plays with a TM Tour Burner 3 wood and a SC putter. So maybe it's normal for Nike players not to have a 14 club deal.

Oakley Radar. Successor to the M Frame. Not sure which lens shape, though, but looks like the Radar Range.

Could be wrong but I believe it was the 975D.

Played his best golf with Titleist, then took the money with Nike. TM is pretty aggressive with recruitment of players. He needs to get his game back to once again be a marquee player for any OEM.

Nike has quite a few players on less than 14 club contracts. They're money making machine is the apparel, so I'm sure that's paramount for them. They'd probably like to have players with 14 swoosh clubs, but i'm sure they'll take 10 + hat, shoes, clothes, and glove.

There were even prototypes then, he used the 975EFS.

I have thought this as well. There has to be a driver out there that he can actually hit.

Tiger's issues are more the indian than the arrow. He hit 2 or 3 drives late in the round yesterday that were what he needs to be doing.

Duval's most likely ho'ing and doing it when there's going to be considerably less attention on him. Honestly, how many people are watching Turning Stone? I know I'm not

I'll be damned. All this time I thought Duval was using the Nike Forged Titanium at his Open win, but sure enough, it's a Titleist.

However, he was using Nike irons.

Oddly enough, in the US Open and the PGA in 2001, the same year he won the Open, he was gaming a Nike driver.

I'm surprised more people aren't gaming the VR driver, it is pretty long. Maybe it is a sign of future endeavors for DD.

Duval may not be thinking of leaving Nike but Nike maybe thinking of making Duval a free agent. With regads to the SuperDeep I think the price has fallen because there are so many club hoes that will only play clubs that the pros use and not many pros are gaming the Super Deep.

I asked him today at the turning stone tournament if it was a superdeep. Short reply was yes. Asked if he liked it. Short reply yes. He played well today.

I would like to see DD playing with Titleist again. It seems that he and Sergio both played their best golf with Titleist clubs. I know there are both outside issues with their downturn in play, but it seems very few guys have great success when switching manufacturers.

I thought a few years ago I read that Nike in all there contracts that if a players finds something they like better they're allowed to play it. That goes for all players. But it also said that they will do everything to make that players what they want and make sure they're satisfied with it.
