I don't think I've ever hit a fairway wood as good as I hit the Callaway Steelhead III. The nearest recent fairway I hit anywhere near regarding feel and consistency was the Nike SQ 2 but I can't seem to source one of these in great condition either!!!

I've been bagging the G15 4 wood for a couple of months but can't seem to find any consistency with it.

I've heard good reviews from the Callway Diablo.Any other suggestions?

Best suggestion is to keep the Steelhead. I've been playing mine for probably a decade now. This thing is outstanding. Of course I'm looking to get an FT-IZ to try off the tee.

I just started bagging a Diablo Edge Tour.  Had an old Steelhead III for years.  The Diablo Tour is pretty close, plus I think it's easier to hit off a tee than my old Steelhead.

Still that old Steelhead got me on or really close on alot of par 5s and bailed me out on alot of bad drives.

I bag the Steelhead III  4+ wood, which is 15° .This is my go to club on par 5's and longer par4's. And I just won a brand new DET 3 wood on ebay for less than $100! So we'll see which of the two wins the battle of the bag.....

Hate to bump such an old thread but I can't stand it anymore...

I am going insane on why I hit my SH III 3-wood so darn good. And with ego humbling uniflex shaft to boot. I have been swing speed tested to x-flex shafts several times. I crush this thing. Once in while my miss-hit with the SH is button hook, but most of time the flight is that awesome climbing trajectory with soft apex and straight as arrow. The sound of impact is a nice enough ping to turn heads at the range.

I really like my xflex Adams driver but just not as good feeling as this SH. My x100 irons I feel so worn out with them by end of range session, it feels like I worked out with weights on my forearms. But even fatigued the SH once again feels butter. Ugh.

I have been searching for specs on this thing for hour now and only broad general stuff I can find like lie and length. I am now at point I wonder if shaft fitting is too general and swing speed based. The mizuno shaft thingy spit out all xflex for me. I am playing their recommended x100's in my irons, etc. But seriously questioning it all whenever I hit my SH uniflex!

I am going to go get this thing fully spec'd tomorrow. Shaft Cpm, total weight, etc. I'll post them here afterwards if anyone is still out there interested.

Maybe I would hit a newer 3 wood with xflex graphite better? I just don't know. Like I said I'm driving myself nuts all because one day I saw this in the used bin for $14.

I had the original steelhead in my bag for yours it only got changed last year with a TEE which now has a white board in it.

Got  the steelhead it when it first came out, Its had a few different shafts in but settled in with a Grafalloy Blue in it. It still bombs but just slightly not as much as the TEE.  Can't see me ever getting rid of it though

I have a couple of these gathering dust in the basement (4 and 7 wood) that I don't use any longer only because I have changed my bag set up (3 wood and hybrid).  The Steelhead III is one of the best fairway woods ever produced IMO.

I've got one in my closet w/o a shaft. I had it refinished to black (the only thing I didn't like about the club was the steel-blue color as it looked a bit feminine) and it looks amazing. I'm going to have to get that back in the rotation somehow.

My Steelhead+ 5 wood is one of the clubs I hit best, and it is not leaving my bag.

I was playing a steelhead plus for about 10 years. It was my first brand new club ever. Last year I thought I could find something better. I bought a ping I15. It lasted about a month before I put the steelhead back in. My inner Ho took over and I bought an r11 this year and already I am looking to change back, except I will get a new shaft for the steelhead plus this time around.

Ive been trying to kick my og steelhead with uniflex shaft out for 14 years but nothing had kicked it out .
I think these are the specs on uniflex shaft

5.0 on project x scale which is pretty much a reg flex
90 grams

I swing my three wood at 100 mph so I'm Btwn x and stiff

After much research, the Uniflex turns out to be a form of a True Temper "Memphis 10" shaft.  Golfsmith lists a replacement shaft as a True Temper Dynamic Gold either hardstepped R300 or softstepped S300.  The Uniflex CPM's right about 260 and that is between a regular and stiff.

I have a spare 420cc driver head laying around and I might just attempt that replacement recommendation to try and duplicate a driver for me that matches that SteelHead w/uniflex feel and results. Wouldn't cost more than $30 installed, since steel shafts are low cost for woods.

I might end up being a metal shaft guy for woods/driver.  I already anticipate the snickers from the hotshot young gun playing partners with their graphite bombers. I wonder how much distance one gives up with exact same head in steel vs graphite.

I have the steelhead plus which is pretty much the same and I love it. I went to a taylormade demo day and hit the callaway farther than the rbz in the LM. I would say stick with what you have. I love looking at my playing partners clubs and never notice what flex shafts they have so dont worry about feeling weak.

My guess is 10 yards or less. But you'll probably gain some control and consistency.

You can always throw a shaft skin or shaft wrap on the shaft, and it will be less conspicuous.

Man the steelhead 3 was a nice wood. For me it sounded good felt good and always seemed to be in the fairway. Try one of the newer generation cally woods. I havent tried the razr stuff yet but they still make good fairways. Diablo tour, ftiz, x hot.

Played my SH III for several years.  Shattered the face on a 40 degree day 2 years ago.  Played a ton of 3 woods, and have within the last 6 mos settled on a Superfast 2.0 TP 13.5.  Would likely still be playing the SH if it hadn't broken.
