Title says it all.  I was wondering about the performance of the Oban Devotion as a fairway wood shaft.  Thanks in advance for the info.

well tons have had very good comments about the devotion in their fairway woods but it did not work for me. i use a devotion 75x in my driver and i played with an 85x dev for awhile. i had a difficult time picking up the ball. i switched to a revenge 75s and problem solved. apparently i am one of the few that like softer tipped shafts in their FW woods.

tried one a few times, couldnt get the ball to spin enough. ive hit the shaft in a few drivers, and its an awesome shaft, but like the above poster, i like a little more spin off a fairway wood. devotion i hit had an awesome launch, but no spin. the thing went about 240-250 carry off the tee with another 20+ yards of roll. it honestly was nearly as far as my driver on a decently firm fairway. i only hit it 3-4 times from turf, but i couldnt carry it past 235ish, and when it hit, it chased like crazy.

the shaft is awesome; i absolutely love it and want it in my next driver. the feel is smooth, but not too much so. tough to describe but its kinda smoothe but with a very very stable feel  to it. for a driver this is awesome. i can go 110% and not worry about the shaft holding up, but i can still go 90% and know the shaft will respond. mid launch, low spin every time.

with a fairway though, i couldnt launch it quite high enough, and couldnt get nearly enough spin. please take my review with a grain of salt--the best 3 wood shaft ive ever played was a tipped red board.

Thanks for the info.  I love the shaft in my driver but I think I will go with something else in my fairway wood.

Just built my back-up 4 wood.  Might be the gamer.  Lighter than my gamer set-up by a little, and left it untipped (standard for 3-wood) to keep the tip a little more active (spin).

Will take it out tomorrow

Clearly not alone. I had this aftermarket fujikura on a 3 wood that was fabulous off the tee but just about useless on the fairway in my hands. Pulled it and replaced with a cheap old shaft that had the soft tip and my 3 wood is back in business. I don't have the off the tee performance anymore but I can now use my 3 wood off many lies I could not with the other shaft.

I have a devo in my 5 wood and love it. I use it mainly off the tee though when driver is questionable. I have a 7 wood that I pound on par 5's if I want to get there in 2 that I launch high and stops really well. But I have a vs proto 80x in that. It's a great shaft, but I have never tried to reach anything and have it stop with the 5 wood yet.

Same boat as most here for me too - Great as a driver shaft but unless you want / need a fairway wood that goes as far as your driver then look elsewhere - I had one in the T3 3wood (13*) and it was as long as my ST 8.5* driver! - Struggled to get it airbourne of the grass though - I have realised that low launch / low spin doesn't work in a fairway, for me at any rate

I think it needs the loft of a 4 wood to be successful.  I have the same experience as the others.

Well I hope you're right.  I'm taking out my Devo/4-wood this morning for the first time.

Love my 4-wood/Beta combo, but could stand extra distance if it can be had

This is an interesting thread, and very informative. I recently put a devotion in my driver and love it. Was thinking of doing the same with my 3w. But may go a different direction and try a revenge or kiyoski as they are higher launch than the devo.

I took my Nike SQ2 17* out today with the Oban Devo.. Loved it!  Off the tee and deck, great combo for me, anyway.

I'm in the minority. Had a Devo 7 stiff in my 3 wood and it spun too much and I tended to over draw it. Had another Devo 7 laying around but it was an X flex tipped 1.75 inches so I threw it in the 3 wood for heck of it and it's been great.

I had a 6x in a r9 wood it was too low launch for me.  Great for tee shots too low for the fairway.

I just recently picked up a 909F2 3 wood with an Devotion 7 in stiff flex. I tried this club on a whim as I have been in search of a 3 wood for Years. Well, Search is over!!! This is the best 3 wood I have ever owned. Off the tee its a bomber. Even with 15.5* of loft I still carry this thing 240-245 with ease. Off the fairway it is the first 3-wood that I can get up in the air on a consistent basis with good carry. Got to a few par 5's in 2 from 240+ last week with it and I haven't done that in a very LONG time. I am now thinking of trying one in a driver. Great shaft IMHO.
