"I'm trying to get a little piece of everybody. Actually, I have a contract with TaylorMade for my driver and the bag, and a ball-shoe-glove deal with Titleist FootJoy. I stick with what I like. The way I'm playing lately, I might have to start looking around. You can see the dings on my putter from where I've pounded on it I'm very happy and proud to have won at Sawgrass. I'm going to try to come back and be in decent shape so I can put up a strong defense. It feels as if I have been hit-or-miss for the last couple of years. It gets frustrating. In the past, in 2005 or '06, I was consistent, but I didn't win. I've win the last two years, but the consistency hasn't been there. You can't have everything."

Stenson keeps plenty of other interesting things in his bag:


Banana Case: "I found it in a  supermarket in Japan. I had been complaining to my caddie, Fanny [Sunesson], about the squashed bananas in my bag. It was more of a fun thing when I bought it, but then we realized it isn't bad. It's practical, and it works."

Key Chain: "It says KISS MY a** in Gaelic. That's the only phrase I've learned from Padraig [Harrington]. A few years ago I played a pro-am with a couple of Irish guys, and I repeated the saying. I saw them at the dinner table this year, and they gave me the key chain. They found it in the Dublin airport, so they bought it and gave it to me. I put it in the bag and kind of forgot about it. It's for good luck, but it hasn't been working too well so far."

Energy Bars: "I like BumbleBar, and the other I use is Green+. They're good for energy and come in lots of flavors."

Swedish Coins: "I've been marking my golf balls with one-krona coins for the last few years. It's the coin you usually end up with when you get change back, so I chucked a few in the bag."

Tees: "I just use tee pegs to repair greens instead of a divot tool. I'm a master craftsman with a peg. Plus, you can always find one. I don't like walking around with a bog metal thing in my pocket.

MY FAIR CADDIE

I started working with Fanny Sunesson in November 2006. She's a great, experienced caddie, and I think we're going to have some really good tournaments together. She's also my candy supplier. I don't miss Sweden too much because Fanny remembers to bring the Swedish liquorice to events.

IMPORTANT ADVICE

I often see amateurs take less club than they should on approach shots, especially par 3s. Most of the trouble around greens--bunkers or water--is generally short. Take extra club, and even if you hit it perfectly, you'll just end up a little past the pin.

RYDER CUP VS. WGC

The Ryder Cup was an even greater experience than I expected. I was happy to be a part of the 2006 team and to have won, but winning the WGC-Accenture Match Play was more rewarding. Golf's an individual sport. When you're part of a team, you can do well and lose, or do badly and win. That said, rd still love to make the European team in 2008.

SECOND CAREER?

If I weren't a professional golfer, I'd be in business, selling and buying something. Probably liquorice in Sweden.

DIRTY HARRY

I like old Clint Eastwood movies. My favorite is "Where Eagles Dare," 1968.

HERITAGE

I was born in Gothenburg, so I mark my ball with a Swedish coin. It's easy to see on long putts.

FOR THE GAS TANK

I eat a lot on the course. I always make sure to have fruit and energy bars in the bag.

ARBITRARY

I have this spinner gadget that marks balls with a straight black line. The mark can go anywhere.

SWEET TOOTH

We Swedes think we have very good candy. Everyone knows the fish you get at the cinema.

DRIVER

My driver is a 9.5-degree Callaway FT-3. The shaft is a 45-inch Grafalloy Blue, X-flex, tipped 1.5 inches.

HYBRID

I play a 17-degree Titleist 585 H hybrid with an Aldila VS prototype Blue shaft, 40.5 inches, Like all my woods, the swingweight is D-3.

WEDGES

Last summer I switched to these Callaway X-Tour wedges. 52-and I played the old version before these.

FAIRWAY WOOD

This 12.5-degree Callaway Big Bertha 3 fairway wood has the same shaft as my driver, except it's two inches shorter.

IRONS

I play Srixon 1-506 irons with Rifle Lite 7.0 shafts and Golf Pride Tour Wrap Full Cord grips with two wraps of
tape.

PUTTER

I've putted with different models of the Odyssey White Hot for about four years. Right now I have this 35-inch mallet No. 5 in the bag.

A bit of a mix.

Sounds as though there's been a bit of tinkering with the face angles of those fairway woods and that's certainly an interesting wedge set-up.

I just had a question about the wood shafts.  I'm sure they are X flex since he is such a strong chap.  But is he really using the light 63 gram version, or is it the tour only 90 gram version?  Do you know?  Would seem strange that he uses all 63 gram shafts in his woods...I would think the fairway woods would feel like toothpicks for him!

Didn't realise their was such a thing as a "Tour only" Grafalloy Blue..? If you are referring to the higher torque 'Grafalloy Blue Tour' shaft then no he doesn't use that shaft.

I don't think it is necessarily the case that stronger swingers would always gravitate towards very heavy shafts, as long as Henrik could get the woods to the correct swingweight then I cannot see the problem with using a 63 gram shaft.

Looks as if Stenson is playing a new Dandy mallet putter.  He's bagged it since the US Open from the brief time he had on TV.  Can someone confirm?  His putting seems spot on in Germany for the BMW and is the early leader.

He's playing a Dandy along with its Lifeline grip according to Gettyimages as of today.  He may have a newer Callaway wood (Octane?) in play also.
