Why buy from LGB? You have no idea where they came from ( ponds, mud etc) Spend the extra money and buy NEW golf balls. You get what you pay for.

My thoughts exactly. The solution is to buy loose balls without the box. THey are so much cheaper and the same high quality.

Also not losing as many balls helps too.Posted Image

I don't believe you get what you pay for when you buy NEW balls.  $3 and $4 a ball is pretty ridiculous.  Not saying I've never bought new balls, but when I can get 13 dozen TP LDP's from LGB for $85 shipped and they look the same as a new ball I've played 9-18 with I'm going to do that everytime.  If the balls have sat in the water I'm certainly not noticing any difference in performance and I've used quite a bit of them.  Just saying that if I can get 4 dozen good used balls from them for the same price as one dozen new then I'm going to.  Even if they have sat in some water.

Where do you find new loose balls at?  I don't see them all that often.

I don't play 1 ball for all 18 holes as I am a high spin player and I chew up golf balls. I do think there is a performance difference. As mentioned there is a brittleness to used golf balls. I would agree that GOOD used golf balls are fine and that the price of golf balls is outrageous. I just don't know what I'm hitting and I'm very particular (if you couldn't tell) especially in tournaments.

You can sometimes find loose balls online, you just have to look around. I bought about 4 dozen loose iX balls off of Callaway preowned for like $25 a dozen for new balls. Also you see them all the time at golf shows...you just have to stock up.

Has anyone have the IX crack that they bought new?

It seems like the used ones from LGB are the issue and not some defect from Callaway, from my pov. Again it seems be only the used IX's that have been giving golfer issues. Until others indicate the new ones straight out of the box were cracking as well, it looks like some kind of refinishing on the lost balls are a factor in the failure.

+1

I just bought a dozen Callaway tour i, tour ix and tour s to try out from LGB.  Tried the tour ix last night and had one split on me. Both the skin and the core itself.  Haven't had a problem with the other brands I've bought from LGB. Will be watching the others closely.

A friend on mine had 3 or 4 tour iX balls crack during late 2008 and early 2009.  They cracked during the round after being used for quite a few holes, 18-27 or so. Wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it myself.

I would go for it. They'll definitely make you whole if something goes wrong.

^^^^^ I have little doubt that LGB do right by you if the balls broke, but would you be able to trust them in a competitive round?  I play and practice daily. Having hit 10's of thousands of shots, I've never seen a ball just split like that. After having that Tour ix split on me, and then seeing this thread here, I'll reserve my remaining 11 Callaway ix balls for casual holes after work.

I usually play the IX and have had a bunch crack on me. I can usually get 27-36 holes out of one before it has to be trashed. They have always been purchased new.

Well, just got my order of ix's, right off the bat the cover of one of them is torn open... I love the play of the ix though.

I just bought 3 dozen AAAAA quality from LGB and used them in a round yesterday...no cracking or performance problems noted. I was actually pretty impressed compared to the Nike One Blacks I had been using how much more bite the iX had on the greens. Also felt like it was "glued" to the green when I was putting. Nice ball.

Out of my dozen-
1 shell cracked right out of the packaging
1 REALLY beat up, it looked like an orange...
2 got really cut up after some PW shots

For the price though, its great. I contacted LGB and they said they would either ship me balls to make up for the cracked/unplayable ones, or put $.75 per ball into my account.

Sounds like a Callaway quality control problem, IMO.

I've bought many dozen Prov1s at LGB before without one iota of a problem.  In fact, I bought the lowest quality Prov1s for my shag bag and a few of them were good enough for regular play.  Heck, I usually play a ball until it's gone, and I can't tell the difference (I'm not your average hack, either!)

iX is a great ball, and I got some from LGB and didn't have a problem with them.. Ordered AAAA, and 2-3 of the dozen were kinda ehhhh quality. I could play with them, and I did, but I tear those balls up so bad, I normally play my round with 2 of them, and then chip them onto the chipping green and leave 'em for someone else to use or lose.

Sounds like Callaways' problem, as I just can't see LGB using something in their process to deteriorate the iX.

I see my thread is still going, anyways. I contacted LGB again about more cracked balls and asked if I could trade them out for a diferent brand and the said  sure. So they sent me a thing to ship them back for free and are exchanging the TOUR IX for some ZSTARX.

Very happy w/ the service I have received from LGB.

On a sidenote yes the Tour IX shred very quickly. Its wierd, its like the TOUR IX has a thick coat of paint on the outside, where other balls have more of a outer cover (does this mak any sence, you know what I mean?). It just seems the iX has a different type of outer cover than the rest of the balls out there.

So is everyone thinking it is a Callaway or Lost Golf Balls issue?

I think its LGB. Only because I have played new IX's w/ no problems. Some of the IX's I get from LGB have had like an air bubble in some of them. It would be like one dimple would pop out w/ air under it, and some would split. My dad has buys his Pro V1's from LGB and has never had a problem.

I reallyu think it is the outer layer on the IX's. Its much different than Penta, Srixon, etc. I think something they do to clean them has something to do w/ the random air bubble or split ball.

Just my $.02

Regardless I will still buy balls from them because they fix any problem and have good customer service.

I had that air bubble issue with a load of HX 56's I bought from them a few years ago. I actually never played them due to the bubbles. I think I still have them in a bucket somewhere. LGB must do something in the process that penetrates and sits under the cover to cause these bubbles. I have also bought Pro V's from them with no issues.

I really believe that its the cover that Cally uses and whatever LGB does to clean them.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread...

I've had the same problem with the iX's....Tons of cracks after a few hits ( esp. after driver ).  LGB is going to refund out iX purchase.  I also picked up some iZ's and haven't seen the same issue.  Only the iX's
