Hello everyone. I was wondering which drivers on the market would help me get a low ball flight. I had a Callaway FT-9 Tour 9.5 R-Flex which i skied in the air too much so i bought a 909D2 8.5 w/ a Voodoo shaft S-Flex which still goes sky high. Any suggestions please?

2nd Vote for J33R, if it's still available. Mizuno MP600 was also low spin/low launcher. Haven't tried the new Taylormade R9 Superdeep yet, but imagine that should be low launch, since it was designed to be one.

If the 'new' 8.5 degree driver is still launching high, might want to get the loft checked. Off the rack clubs can be all over the place, +/- 2 degrees in some cases. When I'm buying clubs at local store, I pick out many of the same model as I can, and have them measure it out. Current 9.5 degree driver is actually 8.7, and another 9.5 labeled driver was over 10. That's big difference. Learned this from fellow golfwrx'er while back, best advise ever!

Why not change your shaft instead of changing the driver head? The FT-9 Tour is an awesome driver!!! Why not reshaft it with a WhiteBoard, or a Pro-Launch Red? Maybe even a Proforce V2? Even a cheap Penley Stealth with strong tip might do the trick. It is much easier, and much cheaper (unless you take the whiteboard path) to just play around with shafts to get the flight you need...

The FT-9 Tour is a good head and it is pretty low launch in relative terms.  Just get a different shaft for that head.  Maybe you need a stronger shaft, you should probably get on a monitor and get fit.

I have the same issue with high ball flight.  I've tried everything, Japanese and US.  Best combo is the S9-1 Pro D with a x-flx whiteboard.  Maybe even double X.   Next i'd say is the bridgestone with a Accra SE80 M5 followed by the Adams 9032LD with any low launch shaft... F7M2 LTD is a good one.

Adams 9016d w/ 83X whiteboard.

Sounds like a swing issue though.

Another vote for J33R.  Also try the Hibore XL Tour.  Both are REALLY low launch and low spin.  A simple (and cheap) experiment would be to tee the ball lower.  You will for sure hit the ball lower and it might even force you to have a flatter swing plane.

Have you checked your driver on a launch monitor?  Your launch might be high but you might also be spinning it too much.  If that's the case, there could be any number of reasons for it - shaft, swing path (out to in, descending blow, upright vs. flat, etc), actual loft of the club, tee height.  Go see an experienced, reputable fitter and have them check you out.  You'll find out a lot from that.

You could give Geek DCT a shot. I have a 6 degree head that is very low.

I have a high ball flight as well because of my swing flaws. I am trying to work on that now so I can play drivers like everyone else. LOL.

No driver in the world will be able to fix a major swing problem. If you sky an 8.5* driver, it's a swing problem, not a driver or shaft problem.

I second this comment. I normally use an 8.5* in stiff flex. The i15 in a 9.5 really keeps the ball down and rolls for days.

Shoulda looked at a TM superdeep w/ the RIP and put the 16g in the heel, 1g in the toe, and set it open. Increases clubhead speed by 3-4 and reduces launch angle. Pretty incredible set up

I agree, make sure your swing doesn't have any glaring flaws that might cause you to be launching at too high of an angle. I had the same problem and looking at my swing on video, it was obvious that I had a flaw that was causing me to hit at a severe ascending angle.

8.5 Bridgestone J33 460 head should do the trick.

If you need it lower, I have a Fujikura Speeder 1061-XXX that you can put in it.  116g, 1.5 torque, and extremely high bend.  If you spin this shaft, you need a lesson.  ;)
