I am currently gaming a 44" prolaunch red xs shaft, swingspeed averages 110mph. I like the shaft a lot. I cut it down from 45" to 44" last year and experienced no loss in distance, actually gained distance as I was hitting the sweetspot more often. My accuracy was better but still not where I would like it. I've been thinking of trimming it another 1/2 to 1 inch to make it either 43.5 or 43' and get better accuracy, i can live with a few less yards.
My question is, is anyone out there using a 43" shaft and how do you like it. Also, as my swing speed its kinda in between s and xs, will the 1/2 to 1" trim make the shaft much stiffer? I prefer firmer shafts but don't have the ss to swing a board. Thanks

I'll guarantee you lose distance if you go that short and it will be noticeable..

I'm at 42.5" and I "guarantee" you that I can hit it just as long if not longer than when I had it at 45".

2 responses and both at opposite ends of the spectrum lol. I know I'll lose a little distance, I have no problem losing 5-10 yards as I currently hit it about 280, i can definately live with 270 and in the fairway much more often.

44-45" seems to be a good length. Sure you can get some extra yardage with another inch of shaft length, but at what cost? Your average mid-capper and up will probably lose a lot of accuracy (like you and even myself experienced) with longer driver shafts... I game a 45 1/4 shaft in my driver, and I love it. Sooo much more control. I've considered going a touch shorter (44 3/4) to experiment...

A good example of this is Camilo Villegas, plays his driver to 44" and Rickie Fowler & Anthony Kim. Fowler & Kim both play a longer shaft in their drivers but they choke down pretty far. I've seen Fowler hitting driver in a non-windy course with at least 2" of the butt end passing his palms.

As I said in another thread... I'll sacrifice 10 yards off the tee box if it nets me 50% more shots in the fairway. Which is has. The nice part is that my new 9.5* head has given me the 10 yards back ;)

The distance loss would be minimal, not even 10 yards. On average you'd probably gain yardage if you're not hitting it in the sweet spot with the longer club. Don't be afraid to go shorter, even with a fairway wood.

Im in the same boat. I cut all mine down to 44.5 and I still grip down over an inch. Like you, gained distance due to consistent striking, which led to more confidence and we all know thats a must. If your at 44, just grip down and see how that works. If you like it, then cut it down. If not, then youll know.

Hey Sergio plays with a 43.75" :0

had mine cut to 43.5 and hated it !

I know I was meant to hit it out of the sweets a lot more .... but I like long shafts - more manly. The short shafts are for girls end of... man-up and play big

I know Badds plays a 44" driver, I think most tour players play they're drivers around 44". tour fairways are extremely tiny.

43.5" is fine.  It would good enough for Nicklaus.  Sergio even plays his driver at 43.5" and he is not exactly the shortest guy on tour.
