In an interview with a Golf Channel producer following rounds of 79-71 that left him well off the cutline at the Farmers Insurance Open, Daly maintained that he no longer will compete on the professional circuit.
"I'm done," said a forlorn Daly in the Torrey Pines parking lot. "Just can't play like I used to. ... I'm tired of embarrassing myself."
I hope this is just a "See ya later" for JD, I have always been a fan even before the crazy pants and would hate to see him walk away from the game after all that he has gone through. Hopefully he just takes a Tiger break, Gets his swing back and adjusts to his recent weight loss.
I see where JD is coming from after a 79 first round and understand his frustration. He just needs to commit and work harder. I dont think he is really done, just frustrated.
I honestly think he is doing this to create more hype for his golf channel show. Maybe he's not the same JD as years past but he's definitely better than a 79. I have a feeling that we will see him playing better in weeks to come. His show would be pretty boring if he came back and immediately played well. Drama sells and hopefully he's just playing the role of a salesmen.
He is right, he shouldn't be taking spots from guys who deserve it and could use the start. The guy is nothing but drama and has no RESPECT for the game.

So...he shot a 79 on purpose? To promote a show that, relativity speaking, is chump change compared to a tour win.
I think he's extremely frustrated. He heard for so long that if he could just lose weight and get his life in order things would be better and he's done his best to do that and things still aren't working out. I think he has put in a lot of practice and isn't seeing the payoff. The guy is talented but he just can't get it figured out and whether that's the difference in his body or other things, he just has to figure out how to play again.

I never said that he could win my friend. I did however say that he could play better. Shooting par wont win many tournaments but its a hell of a lot better than 7 over.
John Daly is certainly controversial but instead of attacking one another? You've the need to discuss John Daly, and to quit arguing amongst yourselves. Everyone has their opinions but few if any will change those opinions, therefore agree to disagree, and move on.

Well good riddance, this is really getting old from this guy. Every time he shoots a bad round he quits, some times mid round. Just exposes a serious character flaw he'll never get over. Steve Flesh and James Nitties didn't even break 80 in the first round, should they storm off and say "I'm done" too? Go away JD, you won't be missed.
I get tired of rooting for him only to see him WD or give up but Daly winning again is good for everyone. He draws a big crowd and is giving of his money and time to less fortunate. The guy is does plenty of charity work and giving back to community its too bad he is just not mentally stronger. I would rather root for Daly than a typical tour snob, David Toms comes to mind.

Explain how he has no respect for the game?
His display of sportsmanship at the US Open at Pinehurst years back.
Continuly WD'ing after one round. (Taking a spot from someone who cares to finish)
Playing golf half naked, drunk off his azz, and filming it think it was funny.
The effort he's put into sorting his life out should not be thrown away. Lots of golf fans love him and I hope he keeps trying to improve his game. If he's worried about taking spots from other players then he should put in the time needed to make it through Q School at the end of the season.
Hope he pulls it off and is around on merit for years to come.
As soon as you say your done then your never going to be able to make it back to where you want to be. Unfortunately the mind doesn't work like that and with John saying that I doubt he will ever get his game back, its a shame but the truth. That is my take on this topic
Sick of Daly and hope he does quit. He's had his time on tour and while he's won two majors has mostly wasted it IMO. He was interesting and compelling for awhile, and I was rooting for him, now just over him and if his latest comments are true and genuine, he is right, he cannot compete anymore and he should no longer take a spot from someone who potentially can.
I'm not inclined to delete posts without provocation to do so, and I'm not above handing out warnings for sudden outbursts either.
Keep the subject at hand, John Daly, and cease the attacks on one another.

He obviously needs to take time off and figure out his game - I hope he can make it. I do believe he's right in that he shouldn't be out there wasting a sponsor's exemption.
JD, big heart, big demons, big time messed up. If you negative posters have nothing better to do then put stupid replys such as its about time or he was done long ago, did you guys ever think that maybe one day that could be you or your kid, would you want people saying stuff, he is trying and its along road so too look a 2 recent tourneys is stupid, will he make it back I dont know but I hope so, does he deserve it, HELL YES look at what is has done for the game of golf and the kindness he has shown throughout his years to less fortunate, I cant believe that members here are so quick to throw a guy under the bus because he has issues, sounds like a country club type if you dont meet perfect expectations than you dont belong, I know that one would think after so many disappointments that is time for them to hang it up, but He has talent, he needs time and maybe start from square one again, but for guys to say things like its about time and he should have been done along time ago or every negative shot you members are slamming him with make me feel ashamed to be a part of this group and hope your not a member of my course.
''Posted Yesterday, 10:03 AMHE'S HUNGRY! He can't eat! If he looks bummed, it's because he just wants a burger. If you had 5 grapes for lunch you'd be pissed too.'' that is funny as hell!!
This is sort of what we Packer fans here in Wisconsin went through for a few years with our quarterback, Mr. Favre. "I'm done, I can't be the player I was...." (The Packers are thinking about retiring his number...and then unretiring it three weeks later...).
