In a long drive contest with balls being accurately measured by an official on the grid: 352 Yard. That wins nothing, and is almost like a foul tip for some of those guys. There are LD contesters who can hit their three wood further than that. I had a 132 SS speed and that was not in the top quarter of contesters. Any one remember the old Nitro LD contests?
On a Golf course, 440 yards, straight away (exact straight line to green,) no elevation change but helping wind, over the green and behind a little bush at the back of the green. The ball had to have rolled by the hole within a foot of hitting the stick. Sadly only made par. Best result long one: 412 yards and one putt eagle -- that was fun.
Far more impressive, but not hit by me, was a 223 yard 7 iron in windless conditions that went straight up carrying water and landing like a butter fly on a flat green -- that one was hit by a tour pro who has won a whole bunch of majors. Seeing that shot ended any thought that I could hit truly long balls. The only way to stop that shot was to hit a moon ball. He did and it went 223 yards and stopped within a yard or two of its ball mark. Knowing you are a hack and not monster long is sort of humbling if you once thought you were... There are always guys out there who can top anything you might do or dream you could do -- it is a useless exercize to worry about.
