When do the county courses close?
not sure about other counties, but Mercer County stays open all winter...they rotate one course out each month (this month Mercer Oaks East is closed, so you can play Mercer Oaks West or Mountainview). Princeton Country Club is closed this winter for rehab.

Other than Mercer county ... What other courses are open in the Central / North Jersey area? - I've had to resort to practicing at the new PGA store in Paramus & the willowbrook driving range. I'd really like to get out and play or atleast find a course with a practice area for chipping and putting.

Any feedback would be appreciated

Overpeck is open but they are using temp greens and do a 9am shotgun everyday.  Emerson is also open but the condtions are pretty terrible right now.  Not many good options, I have been going to Bethpage to play last couple of weekends.

I just tried going onto paramus' website and they ran of out bandwidth, ugh.
I've been to the pga superstore at least twenty times and it's a madhouse.  If you are thinking about getting the plus membership, just know you have to book ahead because everyone is trying to get in to use the simulators.  Also, you can only book for 30min at a time.  So you got 30 min to practice, then you either have to put your name on the walk in list or go putt or just go home.  I wish they limited how many plus memberships they had sold or let you book for 1hr at a time.

Paule - I have also been playing mainly the Union County courses.  I was so gad to see the temp greens gone at Galloping end of last year!  Do you know if Ashbrook is keeping the routing they had last year (with the par-3 as #9 instead of #18)?

Whats the pace of play been like on Union County courses since they closed Oak Ridge? Everywhere else getting over played?

It depends what time you go.  I play galloping hill mostly, and as along as you get out early you can do 4:00.  If you tee off later in the morning or early afternoon it will be a long day.

I'm from Essex but Galloping Hill is my go to practice area...can't beat that bunker/real grass putting green.

Any of you guys looking into the Golf Channel Am Tour? I was on the Golf Week am tour but the Metro NY tour is basically the Long Island tour nowadays and really isn't appealing to me anymore. I can combine the Philly/Metro NY/LI/NJ tours into one really nice schedule with 6-8 events. Plus it seems to be much more well run than GolfWeek. The $199 tour card is a bit steep but minus the perks, it's about the same as the GolfWeek.

Hey guys, currently living in Jersey City right next to Liberty National (damn, it's a private club). I'll be here until the end of may as I am on assignment with my company from Germany and would be happy to play some rounds. Anyone interesed?

Also, do you have any tips for a good practice facility (maybe without matts...) nearby? I have been at Galloping Hills two times and it's ok, but the matts :)

Thanks,
Patrick

There aren't too many ranges without mats unfortunately. You can get some decently long chips at GH on some of the chipping areas. Roseland's has a turf area which gives you some decent feedback but still not grass. Architects out in Phillipsburg has grass as well as Ballyowen up in Hamburg (Crystal Springs and Black bear as well but they're private areas I believe)
