Does anyone have anecdotal (or better) experience/data on the spin that you get from the V1x vs. TM Red/LDP ball on partial wedge shots (SW/LW inside 50 yards)? Ideally this would be the 2007/08 V1x, but other data is welcome.
Thanks.

Pro V1x vs. TM Red/LDP spin .... ... on SW/LW shots inside 50 yards

I've played the Prov1X for the last couple of years, but when the TM Red LDP's went on sale for $55/2 dozen, I figured what the heck. Of all the balls I've played the V1X is still probably my all-time favorite, but there are some characteristics of the TM Red that I really like.
The differences (for me, a 2 hdcp) are:
- TM flattens out a bit more off the driver
- TM feels a bit softer off the putter (Cameron Newport 2.7)
- BIG difference on gap and SW shots - on a 58* wedge shot from 90 yds, the V1x will back up about 10-12 feet; the TM Red will sit within a foot of where it hits. I've found it makes me a lot more confident from inside 100 yds knowing exactly how the TM is going to react.
- I think the TM is definitely a better wind ball, specifically off the driver into a headwind; I've never played a ball that I can hit into a headwind and be affected as little as the TM red. A V1X will climb a bit too much into the wind, compared to the TM.
- The cover on the Titleist abrades quite a bit more that the TM on gap and SW shots. The TM is quite durable.
- FWIW, the TM black is much harder feeling around the greens and clickier, or even clankier off the putter. The black will spin more on wedge shots. I just don't care for the feel of the black off the irons or putter though, the red is preferable for me.
- There are a lot of conflicting opinions on this board re: the characteristics of the black and red TM. It's pretty easy to understand the difference - just look at the back of the box (of a dozen). Goosen says he plays the black on firm greens, and the red on softer greens (needs less spin). I think that clearly explains which spins more on short irons.
Hope this helps...

I would like to add to this thread. On a bit moist ground, I like to use the Pro v1x. I just think its easier to get going farther than the Tp Red. The Tp Red stays on the green very well, doesnt spin as much as the Pro v1x. Both of the balls, in my opinion, are not good in the wind. The LDP thing doesnt really work too well. The Tp Red tends to last longer than the newer Prov1xs. I still think that the Prov1x has a ton more control than the Tp red, when compressed. I used to swing the club 10 mph slower off the driver, so I never could compress the Prov1x. At that time, the TP red was easier for me to play, but now I can compress the Prov1x and reap the benefits. Overall though, I got a dozen prov1xs, 1 dozen tp reds, and a dozen of my favorite ball, the Tour Ix.
