12 man trip to pinehurst area and need 5 courses to play. we're looking for the best of the best with quality/conditioning/layout more important than cost (we're going in august so some deals to be had). Not staying at pinehurst resort so all of those courses are OUT, as is Tobacco (already played).

Pine Needles is the only given. Here is my short list for the remaining 4, but any advice would be fantastic and much appreciated.

Your Top 4 out of:
National
Mid South
Little River
Talimore
Southern Pines
Carolina
OTHERS????

Thanks in advance.

I reread your post and have to add a bit. Logistics wise, Talamore is very near either National or Mid South. Mid South and Talamore are under the same management so you likely can get a good deal. Talmore is a well maintained course worth a round. Pinewild has two 18s Magnolia and Holly; Magnolia is thought the better of the two but both are good. Again it is nice not to have to drive. Legacy Lakes is somewhat near Southern Pines Country Club. Tobacco Road is a little out of town (15-20 minutes drive) and somewhat near Little River.

If you are playing Pine Needles I would definately add Mid Pines.

I think you are absolutely nuts to schedule 36 holes a day in August. That almost seems like work!

I would personally Add Anderson Creek a Davis Love design near Fayettville, about a 30 to 40 minutes drive from the village of Pinehurst. In addition, I would consider Pine Wild (a semi private) but you can usually get on. As for the others on your list, they are all pretty good, none much better than the others from my experience.
