Hey everyone,

just wanted to know, if there are some fellows from down under on board, especially from the gold coast or sidney areas, who can give me some insight information
Right now i study in Germany, but next year we are going to do about 5 months from august to december of abroad studying and i really want to go to Australia.
I have narrowed it down to 3 of our partner universities which are griffith university, bond university (both gold coast/surfers paradise) and university of new south wales (sidney).
Now what can you say about the golfing facilities in those specific areas? Of course good courses, that are open to public would be very nice, but good practice facilities are important, too. (I play of a 4 index, if that matters)
Just give me some advice, which is the best of the 2 areas, golf wise. Really appriciate your help!

Gold Coast has quite a few good courses with practice facilities. Lakelands, The Glades are 2. Alot more resort courses up there.
Sydney is a little harder. Alot of the better courses are private that have the better practice facilities. St Michaels is good course with a range. Moore Park as well. They are close to NSWU.

Academically, I wouldn't even consider Bond nor Griffith at all;
If you want to study in Sydney there are two options: U Syd and UNSW, not any more. Melbourne has wonderful unis as well, but I guess you're more concerned about Sydney, and if you're just staying for 6 months that's all you should think about

Sydney as A LOT of golf course around, some spectacular, some are ok. Some cheap, some expensive. There are absolutely beautiful golf courses like the Sea Side NSW Golf Club in La Perousse (about 20 min ride from UNSW). http://www.nswgolfcl...ome/index.mhtml

The Coast Golf Club has wonderful ocean views a well, nice easy course.

The Lakes Golf Club is a nice course with a great student discount http://www.thelakesgolfclub.com.au/

UNSW has a Student's Golf Club Association which has a lot of special rates on courses and where you can meet a lof of golfers to play with and have lots of fun.

I'm from Brisbane but live in Ireland. I happen to know that the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise is saturated with top quality golf courses and practice facilities. The weather is usually great all year round, so you will get more time to practice and play. It'll be great for your handicap!

I have played golf in both NSW and QLD and in my mind there is no comparison between Qld golf courses and NSW golf courses.

I would pick NSW as a much better golfing destination than QLD, the courses tend to have a better variety of layouts and much better standards of course maintinence.

I am from WA originally and I now live in QLD having moved accross the country for career reasons.

I have played golf in WA, VIC, NSW and QLD in Australia and a few countries overseas.

Whilst there is a great number of courses in QLD and in particular the Gold Coast all the ones I have encountered tend to be maintained poorly and seemingly have very similar layouts which for me becomes very boring.

I can only think of two courses that I considder worthy of playing in QLD, Middle Ridge in Toowoomba which is at least 1.5 hours from any of the universities that you mentioned or Arundel Hills Country Club on the Gold Coast which is a nice private club on the Gold Coast.

The best golfing destinations in Australia would have to be WA, VIC and NSW in no particular order... QLD does not rate at all in my opinion.
