I recent post about the club pro playing with the members got me thinking... What is the best format you guys play at your clubs?
One guy at our club used to run a format for 5-6 foursome that was a ridiculous amount of work for him, but it made for interesting results. I will try to explain it as best I can:
It was invite only, so he would call you on Tuesday or Wed to see if you were in.
He made 4 somes with A,B,C, and D handicap, normally the D's were about 12-13.
He printed, yes printed, out his own scorescards for our course.
On holes 2-17, there was a box on one line of the scorecard. On that hole, whoevers name was on that line of the card their ball counted definitely as one of the two for gross score. So when you got your teams and cards, you looked ahead and figured out who should be listed in what order. For example, the first name on the scorecard had boxes on 2,7,12 and 14. Whomever's name was on that line, their ball was one of the two used on that hole.
On holes 1 and 18, all four balls counted gross.
It was a scratch game, no strokes and everyone loved it. Unfortunately, he went off to Florida for good and no one wanted to assume the mantle of trying to run the damn thing. Rarely did anyone ever turn downa chance to get in this game.

Noon Group
Everyone that wants to play gets to the first tee around 11:45. Two captians pick players. Handicaps range from close to stratch to 20. Depending on the size of the group, a number of "balls" are picked. For instance, if each team has 6 player, three balls will count to the scores. Each of those balls is played stroke play for 5 bucks a side. Closest to the pin on the par 3's is another 2 bucks. Team skins are two bucks.
It is amazing how many times this game breaks even, but there are times that 50 bucks exchanges hands.
There are also side games (usually 2 on 2 match play Nassau for 5 bucks a side), and whatever game your group wants to play.
Overall, it is a pretty good time.

The best 2 players are captains and we play worst ball that's playable. Until the green and we play closets to the hole. That's for 5 bucks. Every other hole. We then play a scrammble on hole that we don't play alternating worst ball, for 5 bucks. You'll be amazed how fun this can actually be. Especially for players who never get to use their ball. We still manage to shoot in the high 80's. None of us are very good. Try it.
We then play GIN RUMMY at the club, when we win our money back.

well at our course we can play in 5 somes (at least our group can) so my dads group (i play but stay out of the money) gets about 3 groups of 5, you split up there are 5 3 man teams playing 2 ball, 20's from each person to the skin pot for each side, and each indevbidual 5 sum plays wolf.

We play every Saturday morning and have 4 spots booked. First 16 to sign up play.
Everybody throws $10 in. $80 of the $160 are for cleaners (individual skins - you can win all $80 if there is only 1 skin...40 if there are 2 etc.)
Each member of the low foursome split the last $80.
Great game since almost everybody is scratch - Hard to win the cleaners.
