i'll tell you this, i went last tuesday and got there at 5:50am and just barely got a time that would allow us to finish the round. and we got lucky to get that. i was definitely a bit shocked by how many had chose to sleep out monday night. i didn't even try for the phone times because i figured getting there before the clubhouse even opened would get me something decent. wrong. the course closes on Nov 1 and its an Open year, so dont take any chances, regardless of the day of the week.

so yeah, just show up by midnight and you'll be fine as wine.

seeing as how its closing in november should i get there earlier than midnight? might be a last rush of the season so to speak? really don't want to get there and be shut out im driving from new hampshire to do this so .....

also any idea what the weather normally is this time of year in that area? its high 50's here in nh figured it should be a few warmer there, right?

honestly, if i were to do it, i would make it as comfortable as possible and get there as early as i can so i could get as good of a nights sleep as i can. I mean if you think about it, the later you get there, the less sleep you end up getting, the less (theoretically) you would enjoy your round, as you are tired/stiff/wont play as well. So for me, I'd wanna get there early enough so that I could a very good nights sleep and feel my best in the morning so i could really get the full experience of bethpage.

I completely agree with you. What's the benefit of getting there at midnight instead of say 7:00?

May as well get there as early as you can, bring a cooler (just keep your alcoholic beverages in cups and don't drink right out of the container), lawn chairs and some stuff to keep you busy (portable DVD, cards, etc).

just the way the my schedule is working out monday is going to be a very long day (like up at 4am). i don't think i will be able to leave boston area any time before maybe 6(pm)ish so getting down there around 10ish is about as early as i can do(maybe earlier if traffic/work go well). seems like this will be early enough as i don't need to be first in line as long as i can play on tuesday thats all i care about.

Sounds like a great plan. And if you're coming from the Mass area, the NYC weather should be fine for you. Enjoy the experience, both the night before and the day. I'm hoping to do this with a couple buddies next year.

I agree that you should try and get there as early as possible and get a good night's rest. It sucks sleeping in the car before playing the Black, particularly when it's this cold out at night. I slept in my car a couple weeks before the US Open and it's not very conducive to playing well on that course. The last two times I played (last couple months) with tee times and shot 15 shots better... granted it wasn't US Open conditions like back in June but sleep in a bed is much better

yeah looks like i'll get down there as soon as i can. that leaves me as much time to sleep/rest as possible and that seems it would a be a good thing considering monday is going to be a long day for me as it is. thanks for all the input for all of you

I'm heading down to the Black tomorrow since my friend just modified his single tee time to a foursome... guess the weather scared off some people. Hope it doesn't snow on us.

Take your rain gear and warm weather gear, mate. That course is going to play LONG tomorrow and definitely keep it in the short stuff.

No doubt...probably wear my rain paints the whole round. I hate stuffing all that gear in my bag as it's a PITA enough to carry that course with the minimal. I haven't called lately but hopefully they haven't aerated yet.

Temp should be playable, 55-65. Only thing is the rain, most of april or early spring is going to have a good chance of rain on most days. As for getting a tee time, not sure if your a NY resident. If not, no chance in getting a reserved tee time. Best way is to sleep out in your car to get he first couple of spots or get there around 5:30 AM, slimmer chances though. If you're a single, you can usually get on in the morning within a reasonble time, say get there at 5:30-6AM and get a time for 8-9AM. If you have a group you might be looking at a 12pm+ tee time, assuming you dont sleep in your car and get the first couple of spots.
