It looks like I already have a kitchen pass to go to MB, SC next April. We usually stay at the Legends no matter where we play, but this next go around we would like to stay near the ocean.

Has anyone used golfdesk for trip planning? Are there any others that are good??? I wonder how negotiable pricing will be...we usually book about 3-4 months prior....

4 nights and 5 rounds and the early course contenders are (can you tell I am already dreading winter and already looking forward to April?)

Caledonia
Pine Lakes CC (maybe)
Pawley's Plantation (maybe)
Prestwick CC
Blackmoor or the Wizard (gotta have one cheap-o) not so cheap at $95 and $109!
World Tour (my buddy loves it)
and a few more to be determined that are in the running.....narrowed down at booking time

We normally book directly with the Caribean Resort in MB. They can do everything for you, but we do out flights. The place is awesome and located in the heart of MB.

Myrtle Beach Golf Gurus. They take care of everything, get the best deals (replay rates etc.) and the tee times you want. Best part is the course pay them, not you.

It's not near the ocean, but we stayed at World Tour last year and the rooms were fantastic! Best rooms I've stayed in at MB. I know that's not exactly what you were looking for, but I was very impressed with the rooms there. Pretty good 27 holes also.

just booked a 3nt/5round package for November through MB Golf Directors. So far, so good. It's my first trip, though, so don't have comparables...

It's kind of ironic... the first 8 years we stayed at Compass Cove right on the beach. Last year we stayed at the Legends.

In all 8 trips to Compass Cove, nobody ever stepped foot on the beach. Aside from the ocean view, we all thought the Legends had a lot more going for it from a golfing standpoint. The 30 second drive to 3 courses and free driving range rocked! It was easier to navigate in/out of the Legends as well. That "main drag" traffic can be a pain.

Needless to say, this years adventure will bring us back to the Legends.

YMMV. Enjoy!

+1 for Myrtle Beach Golf Directors. We have been booking our sping trip with them for the last 4 years, they always take care of us. Ask for Steven Paul. Last year they set us at Tilghman resort, highrise on the ocean. played Thistle Farmstead, and Meadowlands (our keep the cost down course) 3 nights for $285. we were supposed to play the cats, but Steven found out about a month before our trip they were aerating the entire facilities greens, so he contacted us and we made alternate course plans. First class outfit all the way. We had a round booked our fly in day, and the course lost our reservation, one call to him, and they got us right out, all problems solved. PM me with any questions about them or courses down there.

We have used Golfdesk for the past 8-9 years. They always get the best deals and will match anyone's price for us. The more you use them the better deals they give you. My buddy that books for us usually goes thru the same person with golfdesk every year and gives them a good tip every year. Guess that helps us with the pricing too. We usually try to stay where we are playing so we can sleep longer for the morning hangovers. Don't think I have ever seen the beach on my golf trips there.

We don't HAVE to stay on the ocean, we just never have. Just thought the views would be nice as well as being closer to some night life. We always stay at Legends, but we have never replayed the same course twice in MB. In fact, the last time I played Heathland, Parkland and Moorland was 1996. The last two times, we stayed at the Legends, ate b-fast there, and used the range but we played elsewhere...

If you need a couple of cheap ones that are decent, try Farmstead and the Thistle. Good tracks for the price. We try to keep all our courses close together for each trip. Plan everything south one trip, north the next. We keep rotating every year and try to play different courses each time. Usually takes a 3-4 years before we get a repeat course, unless there is one everyone wants to play again.

Then you should try Compass Cove. Great central location, indoor parking, and beautiful condos. The condos have 3 bedrooms, so half the foursome gets a private room.

I almost forgot, the free breakfast there includes some fantastic, make-your-own Belgium waffles! Yum!

Passion on a plate baby!

::waffle tip:: While cooking, give it an extra 30 seconds.
