I'm going to be in Phoenix next week and was wondering what course any you folks would recommend. I was thinking of the Stadium Course just because the Tour goes there and it would be neat. I welcome any and all suggestions. I am also scheduled for a tour of Ping's factory, which should be the highlight of my trip.

I was in Scottsdale for a meeting in January and got to play at Grayhawk, Raptor course. It was one of the nicest courses I've played, and was a very fun layout. Greens were very nicely manucured, and were pretty quick. Check out their website, www.grawhawkgolf.com. I did get a chance to walk around the TPC a bit since my hotel was right next door, and it was beautiful. I was there right before the Pheonix Open and the rough was about seven or eight inches, and my boss who got to play there said that they had a local rule that gave you a free drop out of the rough since they were growing it out for the tournament.

We-Ko-Pa is a must play (www.wekopa.com).

It's a classic desert course with a great practice facility and clubhouse. It's on an Indian reservation so there are no homes on the course. You'll have a great experience and play a round of golf that you'll never forget.

I'd recommend the Grayhawk courses and the Troon North courses over the Stadium course.

TPC is a very well conditioned course, one of the best in the Valley, but there are so many more that are much more scenic and alot more fun to play.

TPC is nice because you get to play where the Pro's play, but for the money, there are better choices.

Here is a link to the previous Scottsdale posts. Good luck.

TPC Scottsdale is great. Don't miss We ko Pa, Talking Stick, Troon North and Grayhawk.

I played a few rounds last month when I was there and I highly recommend Wekopa and Talking Stick.

I think I am the only one here, but I was not impressed with WeKoPA. I did not think it was worth the money. I liked a few of the holes, but overall I expected more due to the hype.

I agree with the recommendation of Troon North & Greyhawk...Awesome courses! I also liked the ASU Karsten course in Tempe. Holes 9 & 18 are some of the toughest you'll find anywhere.

No matter where you play, you can't beat the weather in AZ, and the course conditions are usually spectacular.

Enjoy! :beach:

You can't go wrong with either Grayhawk course. Also, try Legend Trail, it's a very nice course that's usually in great shape.

Rico:

You preferred ASU Karsten to WEKOPA? I guess it didn't matter that 747's are about 800 feet above your head every 3 minutes.

One note about Talking Stick, there are two courses the North Course and South Course. The North Course is considered the better of the two.

I'm involved in a friendly golf outing to scottsdale every summer. last year we played greyhawk talon, troon monument, tpc, and wekopa. I'd say that greyhawk and troon are a must play (greyhawk is a personal fave). TPC is great, it's cool that the pros play there and there are some dramatic finishing holes. I really liked it but couldn't recommend it as a must. As for wekopa, I agree with rico on this one. I wouldn't go back- wasn't well maintained, but the service was good. Like the TPC, the karsten course is cool to play and practice at (faux grass range and huge) but nothing breathtaking there.

i'm looking forward to the boulders this august, possibly talking stick, and i'm reaching to get out on one of the desert mountain courses...anyone know who to talk to for this....?

check out the link. this place looks like paradise

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up with We Ko Pa. It is probably the nicest course I've ever played. Unfortunately it was darn near 100 out and cart path only. I got cooked. The price was right too. I paid $105 and it must be due to an off season rate. The facility and staff are top notch.

We played TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course this past April 2007 and it was the best course I have played thus far - worth every penny.

Another nice course that I play often in Phoenix is Phantom Horse in Tempe, near the airport - very nice elevation changes and all that.

I also like the 2 Whirlwind courses at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass in Chandler - the Cattail is slightly better than Devil's Claw, IMO.
