I can't hit hybrids very well. I'd like to try Callaway, Taylor Made or Ping. I'd like to try a 7 and/or 9 wood (and yes, I am a man). Who plays higher lofted wods and which brand do you like?

I've tried V Steel 7 and 9, Ping G5 7 and 9, and 2004 Big Bertha fairways. The Berthas work best for me, although the V Steels were a close second (good luck finding a 9 wood, although there's one on the Bay right now). If you're patient, you can find the 2004 Berthas on the Bay or used club sites. You could also try 2006 Cleveland Launcher 7 (22*) and 9 (25*) woods. They're on the Bay right now, new for $46 each, shipped.

Maltby Trouble Out.  You'll probably have to get them built but you can order them through Golf Galaxy.  You can go all the way to an 11 wood with those.

I haven't tried the higher woods, but I've gamed a 3W and 4W from Tour Edge (Exotics and CB2) and they are both great clubs, so I'd wager that the higher lofted TE fairway woods are also pretty great. FYI, you can get the CB2s pretty cheap, but personally I don't really like the peanut-looking head; the Exotics is a more traditional small-head wood. I also like the Callaway Big Bertha, and used to play a 7-wood; big head, sweet club.

I picked up a used rapture v2 4 wood 17.5*. It was used but in very good condition.  Has the 939 Reg shaft.  So glad I did.  Very easy to hit and seems very long.  I'm quit inpressed with it.  I may look for a 3 and 7 wood to use as well.  For a slow swinger it seems perfect at least after one round.

This spring I added a Cleveland launcher 17* 3 wood.  I love it.  I'm so tired of hitting my hybrids like crap that I just bought the 22* 7 wood.  I love these fairway woods.  Nice head shape.  2 quality shaft offerings if you want higher or lower launch.  Easy to work the ball either way.  I highly recommend you give these a look.

P.S.  they do not make a 9 wood though, not that I know of.
