It's on the tee of the Par 5 16th. The funny part is, it's enclosed in a locked case...as I'm sure they were counting on that kind of sign being stolen!

Why would it be on the 16th? Odd's are you've gone before the 16th. And if you had to go at the 16th you could hold it till you were done....

I have never seen this. There is a house off to the right at the Tee Box.
Don't know if this is true but a lawyer friend of mine told me that as a player you are not liable for any damage caused to property that is close to the fairways / greens on a golf course. The home insurance is supposed to cover any damage caused by inadvertant shots.
The best sign I've ever seen is at Pine Valley Golf Club. There is what appears to be a small mailbox affixed to the top of a very tall flag pole that sits in the middle of a sizeable pond. On top of the mailbox is a sign that reads: SUGGESTION BOX
Back in the late 70s, right on the first hole on the course at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, there was a large billboard. It was also viewable from the adjoining main drag. It had a large picture of a woman with her tongue out just shy of reaching a golf ball held in her fingers with the rather large caption: "Please don't lick your balls." In small letters at the bottom, it was noted that the course was watered with recycled sewer water.

I presume you haven't read them or you would more fully appreciate that this issue has in the past opened a large can of worms and resulted in several threads and pages and pages of opinions and speculation from lawyers, pseudo-lawyers and interested observers/golfers, in a variety of jurisdictions, about the liability or lack thereof, of golfers who cause property damage as a result of an errant shot. I could not possibly summarize the opinions and I don't remember if there was a definitive conclusion. I suggest you search for the thread if you are really interested in the subject.
A course in my area used to have "too far" instead of a yardage plate on some of their sprinkler heads that were over 250yds to the green on their par-5's.
That happened on the 9th hole at Centennial Golf Course in Oak Ridge (they switched the 9's just recently). Basically, the houses to the right of the tee box look directly down onto the tee box area. The guys that were video taped were just balantly out in the open relieving themselves. So, they really weren't trying to hide it. If you can't be a little more discreet than that then welcome to video tape!

I have also seen ones saying "Go for it" and "Dream on"

At a local course, the right side of the course is bounded by a cemetary. Believe it or not, they had to place a sign instructing people NOT to play shots from on top of people's graves.
The 8th hole at my course overlooks a river and for years the members would try to jam a drive over the river. Well, new technology = longer drives so some kid finally makes it across the river and, of course, pegs a car on the road on the other side.
So the GM puts up a fence that blocks any attempts to launch one over the river. Now the members try to Zuback balls through the fence! There could be a YouTube reel for all the groin shots I've seen coming back off that fence.
