Effects of using a too flexible shaft

I am a 14 year old boy with my swing speed of 100-105. I bought my driver last year when I hit my drives about 30 yards shorter than I do now. I will get the ball out there at 270-280 when I make good contact.
But my shaft flex is regular (should be stiff right?)
Lately I've been slicing alot, and I'm wondering if the flex has anything to do with it.

Well no one that can hit it 280 should be playing regular, id say stiff or possibly extra depending on your tempo.

I would think too much flex = inconsistency. But I would expect you would be pushing, drawing or hooking like mad with that speed. At least that was my experience (to a lesser degree) when I was playing Reg flex - my driver SS is 98-100 and 5 iron is 93-95 - all depending on thee amount of wheaties or Red Bull consumed beforehand

It all depends on your swing, but typically higher flight, more spin, shots tend to hook more, too soft or too stiff can lead to inconsistent contact. It is usually better to have a shaft that is too soft than too stiff, because when the shaft is too stiff you will tend to overswing, but it is best to just get properly fitted. Also remember that one persons stiff may be equivilant to anothers R, for example a stock Callaway stiff may be more flexible than a R flex Diamana after market shaft. etc.
FWIW I play R flex in my steel shafted irons and S flex in my graphite shafted woods, why? because I liked the way they felt and they work best for how I swing.

Definitely too soft of shaft...I would move up to S and have a good clubfitter/clubmaker help you. Just tested a ReMax LD Open finalist with SS of 130 and ball speed 193 with a 45" driver and we fit him to XX (7.7 FM Precision scale) in his stock driver and XXX+ in his LD driver. Softer flexes were nothing but balloon shots right. Best fit added weight to a 75gr shaft with mid to mid-stiff tip section. Good luck...sounds like you are a pretty good stick!
