I played with a guy who was pretty close. He:

1. joined our threesome as a single and I think he hit first
2. was wearing a titleist hat and had all titleist gear
3. played the tips even though he shot 90s
4. told me I should take golf lessons before I come to the course after I hit a bad tee shot.
5. insisted I hit into an occupied green because we were 210 out and there was no way I could reach it
6. shut up for the rest of the day after I waited for it to clear and dropped a bomb on it
7. had his swing fall apart as the day progressed

Romey-Rome knows me.....I'm somebody......I'm "golf guy!"

What's the MOI on that?

Mind if I try your clubs?

I just took a lesson and it screwed up my game.

You're playing balls with the wrong compression.

I'm playing in the City "Am" in a few weeks.

Dude, you're wayyy over the top on that.

You're coming out of it.

Me, me, me, me, me, me, me.........

Had my take, rack me -- I'm out!

Jim Rome is probably the most pathetic human being who's ever lived.

I have ESPN, ESPN Classics and ESPN America as part of my Sky Sports package with Sky and I actually enjoy watching some of the American shows like Pardon the Interuption despite I don't know anything about NFL, MLB and NHL because they can be quite interesting shows to watch, but it's a different story when 'Jim Rome is burning' is on. I only watch his show to see how more narrow-minded he can be each week with his ridiculous statements about various sports he knows as much as Jonathan Ross knows how to deliver comedy.

LOL @ some of you guys getting all butt-hurt over romey poking fun at you. If the shoe fits............

Rome is the best there is in his field. He has been around FOREVER. EVERY pro knows his name, and besides a small handful, they ALL come on his show and give GREAT interviews.

Way off base there, Caesars0331.

I've never even heard of Jim Rome until this clip, and I was thoroughly unimpressed. Nevermind the fact that the content lame, it was so poorly delivered I could listen to it. He needs rant lessons, because there are a TON of guys who can make something like that interesting and entertaining. Jim Rome does neither.

Guess what? Jim Rome started out with a piddly radio show and throughout the years has built himself up to the point of being hired by the biggest sports broadcasting company in the world. So as correct as you think your opinion is, there's probably one hundred others that think otherwise. I could have predicted some of the responses this post would have gotten on here and I could have told you exactly which anal retentive members would make them. Online forums breed people like that because they are the ones that have pissed off just about everyone around them in their everyday lives with their confrontational attitudes and have no where else to go. First rule of being "golf guy" is not realizing you are indeed "golf guy".

I gotta think the 'golf guy' rant was done a few years back because his delivery was pretty bad. He can still be funny, and he makes some funny points, but it's like watching a Seinfeld episode from season 1. The ideas are there, but the execution is weak.

That Jim Everett episode was awesome. I wonder if Rome did #1 or #2 in his pants on that one?

He always loses me when he starts refering to people as "Cat"s. One of the funniest Jim Rome pieces I ever heard was him talking about Kobyashi (sp) (the hot dog guy) about this "cat" "crushing" 60 something "dogs" in ten minutes... He definitely needs to work on his delivery, although he's making far more money than I will ever dream about, perhaps I need to start refering to people as animals...

and we all know "that guy", he's the same one who you're beating down by 10 shots, before the strokes he gave you beacuse he plays all the time, and just got this new driver that he can bomb 330 right down the middle everytime...

I think I have a golf guy in my head. Every time I hit a bad shot all I hear is, "Oh thats way over the top! You hit that right on the toe, have you had your lie angles checked? You're not keeping down on it, thats why you just played a flop shot with a driver." The meds seem to have kind of cleared that up though...

Yes he is.

Any sportstalk host that has his "rants" or "takes"written for him by his production staff is just an entertainer. I'm not talking about a news or sports anchor who works off written news stories. Most legit sports radio talk show hosts work ad lib. They will have a pre discussed list of topics they are going to cover, and may jot down some points they want to make and gets stats from their researchers. But nearly all of Rome's "rants" on the radio are written out for him by writers on his staff.

I'm just saying I prefer someone who is more spontanious and off the cuff.

The same company that thought the Fabulous SPorts Babe was something worth boradcasting.

The same company that acts like it rules all of sports, until it makes a show(which was a pretty good one I thought) that the NFL doesn't like, and then backs down.

The same company that has done more to lower the standard of sportscasting as there has ever been(if they would just show things, they would be great, it's when they start talking a lot of things go downhill).

The same company that keeps Chris Berman emlpoyed.(personally I like him, but the venom from those who dislike him would suggest his employers would be guilty by association.)

Rome is an idiot.

The only thing I ever heard him say that was memorable was when Najeh Davenport snuck in a girl's dorm room, and um, performed #2 in her laundry. He referred to it as "dropping mud."

Rome is the Jerry Springer of talk radio IMHO. He will prostitute himself in any way to get ratings.

I've never watched his TV show, but his radio show is awful. I don't really understand it at all.

I suppose this clip was good...it was about 5 minutes too long though. The funny wore off pretty quick.

Agreed. But his writers wrote a whole 7:32 seconds worth, so he had to read the whole thing or they would have been upset, that all their hard work went for nothing ;)

There is a Dane Cook skit where he talks about having that 1 guy in the group that nobody likes, and if you think that your group doesnt have that one guy...then you are that guy. Please tell me the people that didnt like this rant dont know someone like he is describing.

if I remember correctly, he rolls in 2-3 million a year... so regardless of what you think, his [radio] show must be pretty well received. I enjoy it... but I have been listening since 97...

He has a long line of the "[insert detestable guy] guy" rants. I still enjoy "ice cream truck driver guy"

My favorite of many "Golf guys" I have played with was one named Troy who refered to himself in the 3rd person all day. "C'MON T-Roy hit the ball. Gotta make this one T-Roy!" It took us 2 holes to figure out he didn't have another guy coming to make our fourth named T-Roy.

agreed, it's understandable if you just don't like Rome but this skit hits the nail on the head about this type of guy. The guy that just jacked into the opposite fairway but can somehow dissect your swing. The guy who thinks he's getting sponsored by callaway so every freakin club in his bag is callaway regardless of whether or not it even a fit for him. I don't i could ever buy every club in my bag the same brand because number one, I don't care what brand it is, and two an Adams 3 wood hits nothing like the Adams driver I play, I personally think for my 3 wood I hit the ping better so that's the one I bought. If you're paying for a custom fit that's a different story. Also, why must this guy be decked out in all that same brands clothing? I mean, it's cool if you have a a shirt with a brand on it but this guy usually has everything "same brand" down to the socks because if taylor made sees that he has hanes on he might not be the first 90's shooter on Taylor mades players staff. I've been playing since I was 5 so I know the culture of the sport, this guy makes a mockery of it. So if you're upset than you're either golf guy or you took offense to something he said (hey, I wear a footjoy glove, it's the one I like). Even Rome said he loves golf, he just hates golf guy, I feel the same way golf guy.

Guess what? You're a fool. You can not like this sophomoric rant and not like the D-bag Jim Rome, without it meaning you are the golf guy. That's your best defense here? If you don't like it, you must be a golf guy? Nothing could be further from the truth.

The "golf guy concept" is funny--hilarious even. I don't care for golf guy any more than you do. But Jim Rome's take and delivery on it was weak. He needs rant lessons from Dennis Miller.

Online forums breed people like that because they are the ones that have pissed off just about everyone around them in their everyday lives with their confrontational attitudes and have no where else to go. First rule of being "golf guy" is not realizing you are indeed "golf guy".

Incase you didn't know, Chris Berman pretty much made ESPN what it is back when Rassmussen founded it. The guy has had a hand in something like 10 Emmy awards. I honestly can't remember even hearing someone say they don't like the guy. I'm sure you can find someone, hell I'm sure you can find someone that hates the Pope. But come on "the same company that keeps Chris Berman employed"? Really? Although you do like him, I should have just stopped reading there.

And as far as I can tell ESPN does rule all of sports. And the great Walt Disney company owns 80% of them. How player is that?

LOL @ cave! That's it, that wasn't Jim Rome's rant, it was his personal confession.
