Had a blast with the Aussie Blades yesterday, and even pured a 5-iron on the last to set up a 2-putt bird. As much as I liked them, I'm realizing it had more to do with the shafts (DG). For the 100th time (telling myself this), DG just works for me, and I'm likely going to reshaft the Fly Z+ and/or TM TP with DG. Until then, it'll be a combo set of the Maxfli Revolutions and Aussie Blades, or the old X-Protos.

Posted Image

Played with WRXer Johnny T and he had matching Club WRX putter cover, and Fly Z+ irons, if I were to have had those in the bag.

Posted Image

Also got to try the DG AMT 120 and HZRDUS T1100 that Johnny had, not sold on the AMT, but the T1100 is pretty freaking amazing.

Been a while since I made an unnecessary 3W purchase, but here it is... very compact with deepish face. Reminds me a lot of the old Sonartecs. I love my BB 816, so I have no idea what I'm going to do with this other than that it looks great, haha.

How many times have I hit 3W in the past 2 rounds? Once. Totally makes sense as to why I bought another one.

Always love a dawn round. Except even at 6:30, I got stuck behind 4 groups of regulars and couldn't play through. Still played in 3 and half hours, but I had plenty of practice time while waiting.

Need a WITB picture too of course. Played with 10 clubs and still played as well or better than usual. Might make that a permanent change, haha.

Does look similar doesn't it? It's actually a Srixon F45 Tour. I hit it today for the first time and while the sound and feel were more metallic than I expected, I liked how it set up and played. The 60 gram stock shaft will have to go though, I'd like an 80ish gram shaft in it ideally.

I wish the shoulder straps were more comfortable though, they're on the thin side. Love the bag otherwise.

I have a few Accra shafts lying around, notably a CS1 and a Tour Z LS, which are both perfect fairway shafts. I also have a couple of old 3W set ups that I could take apart, but don't really want to yet - a Diablo Edge Tour with Fubuki AX 85 and an Aeroburner TP with Rombax P95.

Those actually sound like absolute winners, that diablo head was so good! definitely leave those alone...

Never tried an Accra shaft so I have no idea how they would perform, but give it a go, might as well try!

Longer summer days means more dawn rounds, which I love. Nothing like having the course to yourself at 6 am.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Tried a King LTD driver today with the Speeder from my Fly Z, but it's a much heavier head and I couldn't get used to it until later in the round. Hit a few bombs that felt awesome and were as long or longer than the Fly Z, but definitely not as consistent with it. Given the weight of the head, I'll probably try a 70 gram shaft and a slightly shorter length.

Great pics and updates as always PM.  I liked the LTD driver also, but found the F7+ a little lighter in the head, with the same lovely, full, meaty, feel and sound.  I like the blue lid on the F7+ as well.  Keep up the fine thread.  The high quality pics add another level.

Absolutely love my Fubuki Ax fairways. I was able to find a couple new uncut ones to re shaft my XR16 fairways and they are so sweet.
I wouldn't take apart that Diablo though. That's such a great combo there which I've mentioned. Just like I would never get rid of my original X Forged wedges no matter what wedges I have in the bag at the moment.

Belated weekend recap. I was invited to play on Congressional's Blue course on Saturday, walking with two caddies for the full experience. You guys already know, but the place is gorgeous, and the property is gigantic. Staff and members were really friendly, despite my wandering around the club house, clearly lost among the leather recliners, halls with pictures of past presidents, etc. Oh and the shower stalls had those overhead rain showers that probably go through more water than a small Scandinavian country. I could have stood in the shower for a much longer time, heck I would have set up a folding chair and just sat under it for 2 hours  if they let me. They also had candy jars (attn: DCmidnight) and coffee machines in the locker room. Great to see it and experience it even if it was a lifestyle I'm not familiar with, nor will ever be.

Cliffs: I liked the course, conditions were very good, but there were some weaker less unique holes. Played well, despite 5 doubles, but with the caddy's reads, made a bunch of putts, 3 nice birdies for an 82.

Details: Course conditions were very good, not excellent, because apparently they are undergoing a slow rehab/renovation for the fairways and greens. But still, overall, it's Congo and conditions were still better than most other courses in the area, and the greens were still mighty fast and true. My host told me that the Gold course greens are currently pristine because it doesn't get as much play and they aren't working on those greens. The rough off the fairways and greens was not long, but still green and dense so it got tricky sometimes. It would grab on pitch shots, or the ball would sit up and you'd go under it. Sand was firm but very playable and consistent. It's the little things I guess.

In terms of the design, it was pretty much like a classic US Open venue. Tree lined, very defined fairway/rough borders with aggressive bunkering and many elevated greens. The undulations were pretty challenging, everything putt seemed to break a lot more than I thought, but again, our caddy Jon M. did a super job giving me reads. And before I go too far, he was an excellent caddy overall. Didn't take him long to figure out my distances and shot tendencies, and he was able to advise me effectively for the round. My doubles were from execution mistakes and my lack of patience and/or focus. The lines off the tee were not that tough from Golds and forward, but I could see playing from the Blue tees (the furthest back they had out) would be much more difficult. Jon and the member I was with pointed out the US Open tees on a few holes, some of which I'd seen in 2011, and it was unbelievable how far back they were in some cases. I can see how if set up fast and dry, with the rough, it would be crazy difficult.

I could say more, but pictures are more fun.

9th green - we've all seen this one on tv, tough par 5, I laid up perfectly but half hoseled a 100 yard shot into the big tree on the right and made double.

10th - played it very shot, 135 yards, while the Blues were over 200. GIR and 2-putt par. Such a small green and anything short goes back into the water.

17th - made a miracle par here, missed the drive into the trees right which is death, but somehow punched a shot that ended up pin high on the right in another terrible spot, but hit a massive flop to 25 feet and made the putt.

This was the pitched I faced, ball above feet, downhill lie, etc

18th - the iconic finishing hole. Pushed my drive right, so I missed the speed slot, hit it over the trees and almost went into the water left, up and down for nice finishing par. Had to wait for the wedding photo shoot to get out of my way first.

Here's a shot of 10 from further back, with the 18th green to the right.

Love that course!  Played it a few times when my uncle was a member.  It's not an easy course but the caddies are amazing which cuts down on the strokes.

Definitely a great experience, maybe once or twice a lifetime for me. Agree that it is tough, the green complexes alone are challenging no matter where you hitting from. I've heard good things about the Gold course too, hope to get out there at some point.
