At the risk of posting in the wrong forum, I picked this one since I coulnd't really find an appropriate alternative.
My parents randomly decided to go to cabo for fourth of july wknd to golf for a few days and want me to come but I have to figure out where to stay and where to play. Have any of you guys been there to golf? If so, feel free to make any suggestions pertaining to anything that would help me plan this short notice trip efficiently. I'm looking for a nice resort and a great course or two that are part of a resort or unrelated...doesn't matter unless it's cheaper one way or the other. Also kind of prefer it to be in closer proximity to whatever "town" they have there so I can ditch the parents and go meet girls and get drunk. I've never been there so I'm not sure how the city is laid out.

Stay at the Sheraton at Cabo Del Sol and play the Ocean Course. Think Pebble Beach in Mexico ... its the best course I have ever played.

Couple things. Golf in Cabo is pretty expensive, but if you agree to sit through a 10 minute presentation about golf timeshares, they should give you a free or discounted round. Twilight rates are in effect as well, but still in the 100 range.

I played Cabo San Lucas Country Club (aka Raven Club) in April and it was a pretty nice course. Dye design. Very good greens. Played it in the afternoon and got around in 2.5 hours, no joke.

I also heard very good things about Palmilla, which is a Nicklaus course.

Hope that helps.

I have played Palmilla and the Cabo San Lucas Country Club. I was going to play Cabo Real but cancelled. Bottom line WAY, WAY , WAY too expensive. CSL Country club was OK if you don't mind the smell of raw sewage and broken down half built homes. Pretty sad really.

Palmilla was beautiful and a fun course. I have no doubt Cabo Real and Cabo del Sol are fine courses too.

Looking on the intraweb I see that peak season prices are gone and the deals appear to be better.

On a side not, my wife is a higher up at two nice courses and even with the help of her fairly known in the industry boss, not one course in Cabo was willing to kick down a deal.

The bottom line for me about golf in Cabo is that while the courses are nice, I play plenty of golf at nice courses at home and would not take my clubs back to Cabo unless the price was right. My fishing trip there was far more memorable than the golf. I also spent mornings and evenings surf casting on the beach

If money is not an issue and you don't care about sitting on the beach, swimming etc, get after it.

I was down there during the christmas holiday and played both Pamilla and Cabo Real...Pamilla is an excellent course...Cabo Real has a very difficult from 9 and is a good course...Try the new Nicklaus course call Club Campestre San Jose...Its in Pamilla's league...Also, you can get a discount if you play this course and Cabo Real...Just ask someone about it...Golf in the Cabo area is expensive during the peak season, but overall rocks!!!!

Cabo Del Sol Ocean Course has some amazing ocean holes. One of the best I've played.

Pamilla is a great Nicklaus course, I've played it twice.

Played Cabo Real, not up to par with the other two but it is still a very nice course. It has some great holes on the ocean. This is where they use to play the senior skins game.

I agree with a lot that has been said already..

1. Cabo Del Sol Ocean: Best "free" tacos at the turn. Awesome overall. Awesome.
2. Palmilla: All around great, but not quite CDS

Also heard good things about Campestre, haven't played it yet. My family is there right now and they said they may play it though. Querencia was also a treat if you can get on, but I don't think many can.

Cabo is the most under rated golfing destination!!1

I played Both Cabo Real courses, Both Del Sol courses and Palmilla

By far hands down the Palmilla was my favorite!!!

Cabo Del Sol is just way to commercialized for me. From the beggining they bothered me by making me sit through the ranger explaining how grain on a course worked even though I told him I can read a green!! After that probably every other hole a ranger was coming by tr=ying to make conversation. I'm all for good customer service, but I came to golf and enjoy time with my wife not play alongside the ranger. There are some of the most beatiful holes that I had ever played, but again I was already put off from the atmosphere. They do also have the BEST free tacos at the turn I have ever ate in my life. The only chance I would go back would be at an extreme discount or just for the tacos.

The Palmilla was amazing...You pull up and there is a tiny 1 room clubhouse kinda thinking what have I got myself into??? But, as I went over the hill to the pristine driving range i knew that this was going to be great. The course it self is very secluded with not very many homes around and some of the best ocean holes in the world! I would suggest trying to get an early time there just due to the fact its cooler.

Overall one of my best golf trips to date....Have fun!!!

Los Cabos is basically like Hawaii- Very nice courses...and they're all $250+.

Thank you for sharing all your first hand experiences. I trust it much more than some sales pitch website

I would play the Weiskopf Course at Cabo del Sol over the Nicklaus Course from a pure golf perspective. I think the Nicklaus is pretty tricked up, although it has some nice oceanfront holes that you don't get on the Weiskopf. According to Nicklaus, the Nicklaus course has "the finest three closing holes in all of golf", or something like that. For scenery alone, and if you were only playing one round, I think you have to go with the Nicklaus, but don't gloss over the Weikopf because it does not have any water holes. Its got tremendous views, and a better layout.

Totally agree. Play the Nicklaus course once, but then stick to the Desert Course (Weiskopf)....over and over again. Service there is top notch.

After your round, stay at the clubhouse. Have a mango margarita and chips and salsa and guacamole. Amazing day.

Amazing how things have changed since the first time I went down there nine years ago. Green fees have gone up over 100% if I remember correctly. I believe the Ocean Course is $350 nowadays in the high season. El Dorado was still a public track up until a few years ago...

Anyway  agree with all who said CDS, both of 'em, are a treat to play. I love Pamilla as well. Cabo Real has got some very nice holes but if time is an issue I think the others mentioned is the way to go. Play early, it can get mighty hot down there this time of year...

Have a great time, you'll really enjoy it!!
