The "RIP" stands for "Reverse Interlaminar Positioning". The Shaft is availible to the tour in 65, 75, and 85 grams... with 2.0, 2.5 and 2.8 torque respectively.

Geoff Ogilvy, TA III, Troy Matteson, and Eric Axley have put it in play.  Steve Stricker is working with it seriously.

Per an article by Jennifer Gardner

http://www.thetourva...tml?pageID=5214

Steve Stricker is looking for a lower ball flight, and so he's testing a new   prototype Aldila shaft called the R.I.P. in his Titleist driver.

Stricker, who uses a Titleist 909D3 with a UST Mamiya Proforce V2 86-gram   shaft currently, wants something that will work better for the British Open   next month.

He's looking for "a little lower flight, a little less spin," for   conditions at Turnberry.

"I hit it here a couple times and it did have some heat," said   Stricker of his new driver, which is another Titleist 909D3 with the   different Aldila shaft. "It was more noticeably flatter and a little   hotter and I actually got some extra distance."

Checked on a launch monitor, the Aldila R.I.P. (Rest In Peace) shaft gave   Stricker 200 to 300 less RPMs, or less spin, as he's seeking.

The R.I.P. shaft is the same one that Geoff Ogilvy put in his bag at the   Colonial.

Stricker said he's never quick to change equipment, but that he's planning to   work with the new club at home until he's confident that it will work for   him.

"It may even sneak into the bag full-time the way it reacts," he   said.

Heard about this shaft a while back. TAIII either had one in play or was testing an 80g version. Definetly interesting. I'll take a 65X please!

I have an 80X that a certain pro was testing. It looks different than those graphics. Plain Black with Golf Dotz Skulls.  Seems very similar to a 80X Protopype with a little different tip flex.  Almost like a cross between a protopype and an Accra Se80, weird.

Yet another "just like a Whiteboard" shaft.  I liked the XVS8 and would definitely like to try an 80gr+ version of this RIP thingie here.  It doesnt have to be just like a Whiteboard to be good.  The AxivCore Red is VERY nice and not Whiteboardy, to use it as an adjective.

On a slightly related note...What's up with these dudes at Aldila recently?  Voodoo, now RIP.  Lots of dead/death-related product names...

Just an observation.

I think it is pretty cool.

I feel they are on a New Orleans vibe.

Its tough to even see in person. Flat black on slightly less flat black is hard to see. Looks great though and is VERY stout

What SS would you need to handle a X flex in the RIP?
would  117 be enough?

Agree.

I don't know if the RIP profile will fit my swing, but if it does I think I would have to install it in a custom matte finish driver head.  The look would be sweet.
