NEWMACHER GOLF CLUB
Something of a hidden gem and a great addition to anyones scottish itinerary Newmacher is one of the toughest inland layouts in the North East. Set into mature Scots Pine 10 miles West of Aberdeen Newmacher Golf Club was designed by Dave Thomas the famed designer of courses such as The Brabazon, San Roque, La Manga and The Roxburghe. The club offers 2 layouts Hawkshill and Swailend with the later opened in 1997. Although all the praise goes into Hawkshill Swailend is maturing year in year into another great addition to the area and with 26,000 trees added when these grow to the heights of Hawshill this will also become one of the gems of the North East. But if you come to Newmacher it is Hawkhill you will go home raving about.

Greeted to a well situated clubhouse over looking both courses Newmacher is a different sort of animal from anyones visit to the more famous links layouts of the area at Royal Aberdeen, Murcar or Cruden Bay as well as the soon to be Trump International Golf Links.

HAWKSHILL
PAR 72 SSS 74 US SLOPE RATING 143

Opened in 1990 the Hawkshill course is one of the tougest tests of golf in Scotland with the majority of holes tight and tree lined as well as water coming into play throughout the course. Recently lengthened to over 6,700 yards off the medal tees the Hawk is a true test to any level of golfer, with strategic planning required on every shot.

The key to this course is good positional play and knowing when to attack and when to play safe, otherwise large numbers are easy to come by on this course.

You are tested from the outset with watter to carry twice into the opening hole. From there the course winds its way through the silver birch and mature scots pine with tight fairways and well guarded greens.

Water also comes into play at many of the holes and although stunning these can be deadly to your score as bad strikes at any of the 1st, 9th, 10th, 13th or 17th will find the drink. This is the true test of parkland golf in the North East of Scotland and no trip to the area should miss this hidden gem.

Hidden gem??? Not in the condition I played it in a couple of weeks ago! Fairways were like rough and greens were slower than my back garden! Bunkers were like someone had been in them with a compactor!
