This was a question that was discussed on my favorite radio station a few weeks ago.

Would you quit your job you have right now and play golf for minimum wage? But there are catches to this.

-You have to play 36 holes of golf each day incl. weekends
-If your sick mother is dying, you have to play golf
-If it is raining/snowing/hailing/lightning storms outside, you have to play golf
-Getting married? Gotta play golf

But you get to choose where you want to play each day (green fees are waived)

I love it probably more than anyone ( im sure most here would argue that HAHA ) but no way. Too many restrictions and minimum wage would make everything else miserable. I love the fact that I can play golf and not worry about anything else. Hate to be playing as much as I wanted and not know if I could make rent every month.

No way - I'd rather get out the 2 - 3 times a week that I currently play and really look forward to my rounds. Besides, I'd loose my house / wife would have to go back to work / my kids would have to leave their private school / i'd get kicked ouit of my club, all in the name of me playing golf instead of spending time with my family as they leavr this place.....

yeah, I love golf as much as the next guy, but couldn't take up this offer. As much as I love the game, I've got to say that my family (fiancee and daughter) come waaaaaaay ahead of the game. At minimum wage, I also couldn't afford our home--and boy do they love that place ;-) Aside from that, our dog wouldn't be too happy either--he's a daddy's boy!!!

heck no I'm in the military and get to travel the world. played all over the US, playing in South Korea right now and will be going to Hawaii next for a couple of years. from what i hear they have a couple of nice courses there. after that i hope to go to europe or something like that.

Oh hell yea!!!! Forget everyone that I love or who loves me, who needs them when you got golf. Crap min. wage is looking pretty good to alot of americans this year.

I'm just kidding my wife would be nagging me on every hole that I would have to just shoot myself to make it stop ! Just kidding on this too well except for the nagging wife thing.

I couldn't do this to my family, love the kids, wife, mom, and actually get along with the in-laws great. I would get burnt out playing that much and would have to find something else to do.

1st of all, is this "deal" a permanent gig?
2nd of all, the mother "dying" bit is a bit too much to ask for (even if u don't get along with her for most of the time, u know?)

With the above pts. stated, I would not do it... Min. wage is the worst! Besides, golf for me is for fun. This deal makes golf sounds more like a job now... It be cool for a few months (could u imagine how much of an improvement your game would get), but then, reality would come crashing in on you! (example... man, I don't have enough $$$ for that latest club I've been keeping tabs on... lol! )

If you changed the rules and made it more of a fair trade for what people usually do for a living, you'd get more takers. Example:

1) 40 hours a week. That's eight hours a day and can be broken down into 18 holes plus driving range and putting green time.
2) If family is sick, you can tend to them. Most of us can do that with our jobs anyway. Wife gets in a wreck, Mom has a heart attack, you can take a "sick day" and go.

If you want to make it interesting, require that you have to do anything else BUT golf on your weekends.

I still wouldn't do it. The quickest way to ruin something you love is to overindulge in it. I would estimate that half the people who vote yes would be so sick of golf in six months that they would go nuts. This is especially true for those of us who live in states with extreme temperatures in either summer or winter (because if it's a job, you're going to play come rain or shine, blizzard or hellish heat wave).

LOL it appears that everyone is looking way to far into this. Think about it for a second. 36 holes should take you no longer than 10 hours at worst (don't forget you get to choose the course you play at). How many of us work 9+ hours a day slaving away at some desk or something? Hell I work 12 hours a day and still find time to play golf every chance I get. With this you are literally getting paid to have fun. How many of us have a job that pays us to have fun? I know mine doesn't.

Your mother is sick. Ok you can still play 18 holes, go visit her for 6+ hours then go back and play 18 holes. I didn't state that you had to play back to back 18's. You wouldn't do that to your family? Aren't you gone for at least 8 hours a day anyway at your normal job? This is no different if you think about it, except you get to get paid for playing golf. And yes theoretically you will be getting overtime since you have to golf on the weekends and holidays as well. Standard overtime rates apply.

First off, my perspective. I just finished playing for a community college where I could play every day. I didnt get paid (besides tuition), so minimum waige is better than nothing. Also, I got frustrated, but I also saw my game improve and I showed myself I could hit this tough shot or that shot. Augusta? Heck ya man. I'm there!

Many of you said you wouldn't enjoy the game anymore. Kinda like too much of a good thing can make it sour? Well thats what hard work falls into. If you work hard and get through the rough days where nothing goes your way, well eventually you see drastic improvements in your game!! Your worst most frustrating golf round is still better than sitting behind a desk all day. You guys are acting like you don't even like golf.

Now, the negative side for most of you. I don't have a family, have no bills, and just go to school and work in a golf shop for money, so ya, the minimum wage wouldnt bother me at all if I could play augusta.

But regardless of how frustrating it gets, you learn to play better golf and getting through the rough rounds is a big achievement.



Here is my day. Playing by myself or with one person.

7 am to 1-2 pm golf. 2pm to 6pm open a landscaping company . 6pm to midnight play poker . Repeat.

Basicly the question is would you play pro golf (10 hours a day like most pros) for just enough to live on. Of course after 2 weeks you would be so tired every night that you could not spend the money that you've made, and you would actually be saving money. Sort of like getting paid to sit time...you come out better off than you went in?

they never said you have to play well. It also didn't say it had to be stroke play. If you wanted to you could go to the tee, hit the ball an inch, then pick it up and concede the hole. Then move on. 35 holes would take an hour with no effort. On the last hole sit in your golf cart and drink beer and eat food while browsing the net on your laptop using the clubhouse wifi. You could even leave the course while still on the clock and come back later at night just to concede it one more time. There is always a loophole

You can go even farther, it never said you couldn't just play the same hole 36 times. Or that it had to be a USGA golf hole. Make a putt-putt golf hole in your house and you would never have to leave your living room. Even better just fire up Tiger Woods on the 360 and 36 holes.
