The kids got tons of talent, let's hope his head, and the money doesnt get in the way of the talent. Seems like the type of special player that could win 5-10 majors, maybe be Tiger's "Tom Watson"
Do you think Tiger really likes the Ryder Cup, look at his record, he would rather go home and be with his family that time of the year, his game is never in top form. Difference is Tiger knows when to keep his mouth shut, I think O'Meara did a great job mentoring him early in his career, along with Earl.
I played in the BMW PGA pro-am yesterday, and the winning team was Rory's (-13, all the amateurs decent single figures). At the prize giving he was interviewed by the compere, a BBC commentator, who teased him about this quote.
Rory said that his focus was on winning events and contending in majors. He didn't want to play well to qualify - he wanted to play well to win events, and if he did that, the Ryder Cup would take care of itself.
I can buy that. He has played Walker Cup (which Hunter Mahan did not) and he was into that event and gave it 100%. I am sure he would do the same at a Ryder Cup. The next RC is well over a year away. He would be foolish to be thinking too much about it now, but he will think more about it next season.
I sat with his pro-am partners during dinner and they said he was a great player to play with - friendly, chatty, gave advice, told stories and hit the ball great.

I don't see what the big deal is with what he said. The Ryder Cup is nowhere near as important as a major.
Can you remember who won the Ryder cup in 1986? How about 1962? Do you even KNOW if a Ryder cup match was played in those year?
We remember majors decades after they are won. With a couple of exceptions, we remember Ryder Cup outcomes until the next one is played, and even then we don't remember the details of individual matches (except for Justin Leonard's putt). Many of us could remember what Jack did on the Back 9 at Augusta in 86, or Tiger's smashing of the field at Pebble in 2000, or Mize's chip in over Norman.
The Ryder Cup isn't anywhere near those moments in golf history.
Odd years until the 2001 event was pushed back to 2002.
I remember most since 1981, when the US team fielded 11 major winners (and Bruce Lietzke).

Golf's an individual game and i think team events are extremely over rated!!!
If you want to be in a team go play football or baseball or something else like that.
Good on him for telling it how it is, it is very refreshing in these times for someone just to come out and say what he thinks and not say what he thinks people want to hear!! Because it would seem nowadays not many people can handle someone who has a different point of view to theirs. And most people can not handle being told the truth!!!
Good on you Rory you have definitely got a big fan here!

Another retard*, it appears.
(*You, not Rory).
Rory is neither snobby nor a jerk. I doubt hurricanes understands what snobby (which usually means looking down on people of a lower social class) means. Rory is a friendly and amiable guy who makes time for fans and strangers who stop him for a chat (like me, yesterday).
I imagine hurricanes knows exactly what a jerk is - he should find a mirror if he wants to check.

Solo success is what golf's all about. Ryder Cup's a great event, with a great history, but it doesn't rival the success of winning a major, etc.
Rory ftw

Good player and good kid who made a bone-headed PR move. I like his game and his attitude and find it funny that he resembles Mr. Bean/The Black Adder.
