Joe,

Have read the articles posted from time to time but am a new member so apologies in advance to all if I err in any comments. While I don't have all the info you ask for I can provide the following:

58 years old, 5'11 220 lbs. h-cap is presently a 10. Have been as low as a 4. Generally shoot between 77-82. Driver currently played is a relic by todays standards, Cobra SS 380 9 degree with stiff shaft. Shaft is a "made for" Cobra shaft described as: mid kick 55 gram YS-5.1 MFT. Having been on a few "swing monitors" recentlyand  my tyipcal swing speed has been in the 102 - 105 range unless I come out of my shoes. If I recall, ball speed was in the 150 range. Unless I catch one, my usual carry is around 225 -230 and whatever roll I get depending on the course. Spin with driver is around 2800 - 2900. I'm not really sure what tempo means but with the caveat that I look or play nothing like Fred Couples, if I were to describe a swing type I guess I would resemble a Couples type of swing. Never saw myself on video but have been told I don't look like I'm swinging hard but it all seems to happen in the last 18 inches before I hit the ball. I play Ping Eye 2 irons with stiff KT shafts all standard length & lie and hit those just fine. If I miss a shot with any club, it is usually to the left. I suspect because I tend to have a strong right hand.

No doubt because of age and not being in the shape I once was, have lost some yards off the tee ball and reluctantly admit, am one iron shorter as well. Used to hit a 9 iron 150 on the money and now it's an 8. Don't know that I have a specific problem other than I could use a better short game and would like to get a few yards back off the tee ball  as well as some height. For whatever the reason, my driver ball flight has gotten on the low side. Live in MA and have been to a few of the big box stores and spent some time on the "launch monitors or swing machines" the results of which I have to say, I take with a grain of salt. Indoors, I tried Cobra Encore ZL, AMP, New Calloway, Speedline, RBZ & of course the ever adjustable R11S. All were tried with both the usual flavor of reg & stiff shafts. According to the swing machines, I hit the Cobra Encore the best although there didn't seem to be any appreciable gain in distance until I went to a place that had an outdoor range......  Something to be said for seeing actual ball flight?! In the end, I hit the RBZ in regular shaft the best. Not jaw dropping longer but longer than what I've got now. Very long winded way of asking about shafts.... The reg felt good with good launch and flight characteristic but unless I made a swing adjustment was losing it to the right. Not a huge slice but I normally draw the ball so anything right gets my attention. The RBZ excon 5 stiff went straighter but shorter and didn't feel as good. I did not try the excon 6. It would appear beyond being able to make loft and other adjustmets with these new drivers, it appears you can change shafts no big deal. Obviously, you have to pay extra for the upgrade or buy the shaft but a simpler process than not so many years ago.

Any thoughts on a shaft that would assist in getting the ball more up in the air (carry) that I could hit straight and or draw without going through a bunch of swing contortions?

Best Regards, Mark

Answer: Please go back to the first post and answer all questionnaire 1 by 1 properly.

2. What is the existing set up specs and shaft, etc? Detail please!
JPX-800 Pro with KBS Tour Stiff shaft soft step. 6 iron: loft 30 degrees, lie 60.0 degrees, length 37.00 inches, CPM 308, Swing Weight C9, Frequency 5.6
3. Have you ever been on a launch monitor session? Yes. what are the numbers (detail)? what brand of machine?DO NOT POST IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COMPLETE LM DATA. 16. Who do you think your swing look like compare to PGA Tour players? KJ Choi.
17. What is your handicap index? From? 17.0.
18. Smooth , medium or quick tempo swing style? I have a smooth tempo.  I have a 3.2:1 swing ratio. How good is your shaft load factor on your down swing? Medium load.

Answer: The KB is to high on LA and to low on spin, i'm almost sure due to inconsistent hit. The NS PRO number a bit to low on the LA and way to high on Spin....This tell me you might need another session from a better calibrated flight scope machine. Maybe also has something to do on how the final club specs out too.

General questionnaire:
How often you play in a month? 5-6 times
How often you practice in a month? about once a week on my lunch hour
How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? It won't matter good or bad consistency. 7.5

Driver fitting questionnaire:
Thanks for the help...here is the deal, I am hitting a new 2012 Nike VR_S 10.5 degree with the Fubuki stiff 51g shaft. The ball fitting advisor said my ball was taking off like an airplane but landing like a helicopter.

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, lenght, etc ) Nike VR_S 10.5 degree, Fubuki 51g Stiff, length 45.75, swingweight D4-D6
2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? Loading factor on your swing? Heavy or light loader? Smooth swing, disciple of "tour tempo" 3:1 swing rate (21/7), probably heavy.
3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing?where is your striking ability? Handicap is 10.5, consistent 1 plane swing like Hogan, solid ball striking.
4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up? My backspin numbers are off the chart!
5. Have you ever had a launch monitor session before? What brand of LM (flightscope LM is one of my best recommendation)? ( swing speed, launch angle, ball speed, spin rate, Swing path,Attack angle, side spins, etc?) These numbers has to come from the existing club or the club that you are trying to fix or buy. IMPORTANT & A MUST!DO NOT POST IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COMPLETE LM DATA.
LM Trackman, SS 104.9, Launch 14.7, Ballspeed 140.2mph, Backspin 4422, Side spin +107, carry distance 232 yds
6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up? Trying to add distance by reducing the backspin and having a more penetrating ball flite vs. ballooning up and dropping out of the sky.
7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? where? My mistakes/misses are from swinging too fast and leaving all the weight on my back foot, usually a fade to the right. generally center contact but do occasionally hit some out towards the toe higher off the face.
8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good? Pretty straight tee ball, slight draw (I'm RH) of 8-12 yards
9. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from? Generally upperscale public with soft fairways. From Ann Arbor Michigan (Go Blue!)
10. Body build and postures? height? etc. Slender build, athlete all my life, 5'-10" 165lbs
11. What is your glove size? need size estimate even if you don't use glove. Large
12. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be? Matt Kuchar, a good in pace swing on one plane.
13. etc. The more the better it become. I trialed a nike VR pro of my buddies with a GD YS6+ shaft and felt like I hit the ball a little better (trajectory wise). 2 years ago I won a Callaway FT Tour wi.th the Voodoo shaft and I really struggled hitting it. I hope this was enough info...thans in advance

Answer: Definitely steep angle of attack is the biggest cause. check in with your local reaching pro who knows what he is doing.

Answer: I'll be very honest and straight forward. The inconsistentcy of your LM number tell me is not on the club mostly...if any on the club, it should be on the club length set up since you've mention missing it on the heel a lot. Cut the lenght to find more sweet spot and see if your contact will improve on not.

Messed around on the flightscope today.  Was dead into the wind.  Here are some numbers:

Carry- 221
Total- 227
Smash-1.41
Path-0.0
Launch-11.9
Horizontal-.7R
Ball Speed- 159.6
Clubhead- 113.3
Spin- 3024
Face- .8R
Dynamic Loft 15.8

I was using a Titleist 910D2 9.5 with a proforce X shaft.  Wondering how good those numbers are?  I'm looking to switch to the R11s and I was wondering if you had an opinion on which shaft I should go with.  Thanks for your help!

Answer : Go back and get a numbers from a nice no wind days.

General questionnaire:
How often you play in a month? 8 TIMES
How often you practice in a month? 15 TIMES
How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? It won't matter good or bad consistency.

8/10

Driver fitting questionnaire:

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, lenght, etc )

TITLEIST 910D2 10.5 MADE FOR TITLEIST KAILI 65 STIFF AT STANDARD LENGHT 45 INCHES, PLAYING AT A1 SETTING
2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? Loading factor on your swing? Heavy or light loader?

MORE ON THE SMOOTHISH SIDE, DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT LOADING, I GUESS IN BETWEEN
3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing?where is your striking ability?

7 HCP, SWING CONSISTENCY 8/10, STRIKING 7/10
4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up?

SIDESPIN CLOSE TO 500 THEREFORE DRIVER SHOTS TEND TO HOOK.

SS 104, LAUNCH ANGLE 11.2, BALL SPEED 148, BACK SPIN 2650, SWING PATH IN TO OUT, SIDE SPIN 500 MOSTLY HOOKS, DESCENT ANGLE 43, CARRY AROUND 250, TOTAL DISTANCE 280.
6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up?

REDUCE SIDESPIN TO AVOID HOOKING THE BALL, BRING DOWN SPIN CLOSER TO 2300, REDUCE SHOT DISPERSION (HIT MORE FAIRWAYS).
7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? where?

HOOKS AND PUSHES. WHEN MISSING SHOTS ON THE FACE MAINLY LOW ON THE HEEL SIDE, BUT NOT TOO OFTEN. MAIN PROBLEM IS HOOKING OF THE TEE.
8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good?

STRAIGHT OR VERY SLIGHT DRAW. MID LAUNCH.
9. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from?

HOT WEATHER, TEXAS LIKE. I AM FROM MONTERREY, MEXICO.
10. Body build and postures? height? etc.

ATHLETIC BUILD. HEIGHT IS 5.10 AND 78KG (AROUND 150 POUNDS). GOOD SETUP POSTURE.
11. What is your glove size? need size estimate even if you don't use glove.

SMALL SIZE.
12. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be?

DON´T KNOW.
13. etc. The more the better it become.

WHEN HITTING DRIVER BALL EXPLODES OF THE FACE NICELY, BUT THE TRAJECTORY TENDS TO BE A HOOK. WOULD LIKE BETTER SHOT DISPERSION SO I CAN GO AT IT WITH MORE CONFIDENCE. PROBABLY THE TILTLEIST KAILI FLEXES TOO MUCH FRO ME.

BEEN THINKING ABOUT A SHAFT WITH A STIFFER TIP, MAYBE A GD AD DI 6 IN STIFF? OR AM I OK WITH MY ACTUAL DRIVER? TRIED THE FIJIKURA MOTORE F3 60 STIFF, BETTER SHOT DISPERSION THAN MY ACTUAL MADE FOR KAILI, BUT ABOUT 1O YDS LESS IN TOTAL DISTANCE, SAME BACK SPIN AROUND 2850. I AM MORE CONCERNED WITH DIRECTION.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Answer: To reduce the spin, you will give up dispertion or control. I only see you need a little more LA which could easily tweak with a slight higher loft on that club.

General questionnaire:
How often you play in a month? I play about 3 times a month but hardly at all from November to February
How often you practice in a month? 4-6 times at least
How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? I would think that my swing is a pretty solid 7.5-8

Driver fitting questionnaire:

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, lenght, etc ) Callaway FT-9 9 degree Diamana Blueboard 63 stiff With an I-mix head.
2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? Loading factor on your swing? Heavy or light loader? I have a smooth tempo and load the shaft heavy
3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing?where is your striking ability? 5.8HDCP and 7.8 -8 on swing consistency. Striking ability same 7.5-8 out of 10.
4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up? Too many misses to the left on good swings and would like a little more workability. Flight a hair low for my liking too.
IMPORTANT & A MUST! DO NOT POST IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COMPLETE LM DATA. I have never had a Launch Monitor session. Only some simulator time at GG. My swing speed with the driver is in the 106-112 and my launch angle was somewhere around 11-12. Not sure how accurate those are but those numbers come up pretty consistently when i'm in there.
6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up? I would like to get a set-up where I can keep to distance I hit the ball with the ability to work the ball left/right or up/down when needed. I score much better when I'm in the fairway and thats the ultimate goal.
7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? where? My biggest swing mistake is an over the top move that causes blocks or toe hooks. Misses to the toe would be the only face contact issue.
8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good? I like to hit a slight fade as my stock shot from the tee with the driver and draw the ball only when needed. When playing extremely well i can do this but doesn't happen often.
9. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from? I'm from PA. Course conditions vary all year long based on weather. Mostly bluegrass/bent fairways with some rye. Not much roll without long dry spells.
10. Body build and postures? height? etc. I am 5' 10" tall and weigh 210lbs. I have a strong lower body, much more than upper body
11. What is your glove size? need size estimate even if you don't use glove. Cadet Large
12. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be? Really can't put a Tour swing in comparison to mine. Love the way Louis Oosthuizen swings the club. Would Love to copy that if I could.
13. etc. The more the better it become. Thanks for offering this service. It is great for you to be able to help out our fellow players.

Answer: I can't answer it without any LM # in dteail.

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, lenght, etc )
9.5 Adams 9064ls in a neutral position, stiff flex Alpha Rip, every thing standerd.

3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing?where is your striking ability?
handicap. 12.9
Driver 5
striking: 7, i tend to hit the same spot on the face.

4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up?
Low launch high spin

IMPORTANT & A MUST!  DO NOT POST IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COMPLETE LM DATA.

Yes but I don't remember the brand.
speed: 106 to 110
launch angle: 8 to 9
ball speed I didn't get those numbers
spin rate: 3700 to 4000
Side spin: +/- 200 to 400
path/attach angle: I didn't get those either.
carry right at 260 yards but had a couple beyond that.

6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up?
Higher launch with lower spin

7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? where?
balloning slice which is totally differenct then the lower ball flight I normally have

I tend to hit center/center toe where I seem to get my longest drivers.

My mishits tend to be low heal or high toes. (knock on wood but I have never hit the hosel or low toward the toe with the driver.)

8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good?
straight and a little higher (slight draw or fade)

9. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from?
course condition are always good here in hawaii. Can be windy but that doesn't bother me.

10. Body build and postures? height? etc
6 foot 185 not fat but also not built.

11. What is your glove size? need size estimate even if you don't use glove.
M/L

12. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be?
Luke Donald

13. etc. The more the better it become.
In the fitting they named several shafts. G series, oban devotion, the DI, and one other I can't remeber.  I went with a di6s instead of the 6x because I was a little scared to make the switch.  With this shaft I couldn't find the fairway for nothing.  So I had them tip it as much as possible and cut it to 44.5  It helped a little but not as much as I like.

I just purchased a Tour Fast 12ls with a black tie 6m3 not the 6m3.1 that comes on the stock version. Of the 60 balls I hit with it. they were maybe 10 yards left or right of where I was aiming besides the pulls.  Thats great but they were all low launch again.

Thanks for your help and have a great week.
TJ

Answer: Steep angle of attack and deloft impact most likely, check back with higher loft club and high kick shaft to see how bad your spin will be.

Thanks in Advance Joe!

General questionnaire:
How often you play in a month? 6-8 times
How often you practice in a month? 8 -10 times
How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? 7

Iron fitting Questionnaire:

1. Do you have a dynamic fitting before? lie angle?
My 6-iron is 60.5degrees (I'm 2 up on Titleist AP2's). Other than that, my current irons were not fitted for me.

2. What is the existing set up specs and shaft, etc? Detail please!
Titleist 710 AP2's S300. 2 degrees upright. Lofts unchanged.

3. Have you ever been on a launch monitor session? what are the numbers (detail)? what brand of machine?
5 shots with my current 6-iron produced an average 80mph club head speed (questionable. I've used the Mizuno shaft optimizer a few times and its always around 85-89). 115 Ball Speed. 14.2 Launch. -.5 Azimith. -780 side spin, 4780 back spin. 39 degree descent angle. 166 carry. 181 total distance. Peak Height 23 yards. This was on a Foresight.

4. How do you hit them so far?
They feel good...slightly heavy at first but got used to them. Anything 8+ I feel like I can stick them to the green...6-7 I do roll off quite often, and 3-5 I don't really go for the green if I am trying to score well...I will usually use the 4-5 for tee shots or lay ups. 3 is strictly off the tee, once in a blue moon off the deck.

5. What do you want to see it change/what is the problem?
I want to be more confident that my mid and longer irons aren't gonna run off the green

6. What do you like to see on your ball flight?
Higher ball flight and/or more spin...my short irons are 'ok' (not as high as my friends irons; but mine still take a hop or two and stop as long as its 8-p) but my mid and long irons get quite a bit of roll

7. What is your ball flight tendency on your good golfing day?
Off the tee i tee up my iron shots...so off the tee I always launch mid-mid high. But off the deck I would say my shots are low-midlow.

8. Which side is your mistake tendency? left or right side? any problem catching the sweet spot? where?
My misses are usually when i come outside in a bit and fade the ball...when I am thinking about this, I can usually draw the ball slightly.

9. Do you consider yourself a High ball hitter or low ball hitter?
Low. I release really late

10. How far you hit a 5 iron on a good no wind day?  5 iron swing speed ( carry distance )?
195ish yards. Carry I would estimate 175ish.

11. What is you measurement on Knuckle to floor with shoes on? LH for RH player vice versa on LH players
31.5"

12. What is your measurement on wrist to floor with shoes on? LH for RH player vice versa on LH players
34.5"

13. What is your glove size? need size estimate even if you don't use glove.
Medium

14. How tall are you?
5'11"

15. Are you a deep/medium or shallow divot taker?
I would say Medium to Medium deep, with the occasional fossil excavation in my shorter clubs.

16. Who do you think your swing look like compare to PGA Tour players?
I dunno...Tiger? lol

17. What is your handicap index? From?
13.9...personal best of 82...My mental game is weak...I usually have a blow up hole or two every round...my personal best of 82 included a +4 :)

18.  Smooth , medium or quick tempo swing style? How good is your shaft load factor on your down swing?
I would say Medium...I can load my s300 shafts just fine, and from demo's I load the KBS Tour S pretty good. I tried the x100's and the KBS Tour X before at a demo too, they are a bit too much...I don't load those shafts much at all.

Answer: TO low on launch and spin. Lower kick point shaft and higher spin should help, but it might be because of your swing. to steep and deloft impact position. It could be ball position too.

Check all that!

General questionnaire:
How often you play in a month? 6-10 times
How often you practice in a month? 6 - 10
How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? It won't matter good or bad consistency. 8

Driver fitting questionnaire:

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, length, etc ) Nike Pro Limited, 10.5 (digitally measured), Pro Launch Red S
2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? Loading factor on your swing? Heavy or light loader? Medium Tempo/medium to heavy loader
3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing? where is your striking ability? handicap is uk 2, my swing consistency is around 8, my ball striking ability is pretty decent. I hit the sweetspot most of the time, but sometimes miss off the heel.
4. What is the problem w/ the existing set up? I like everyone would like to increase distance, and lower ball flight. I lose a lot of distance into the wind.
5. Have you ever had a launch monitor session before? What brand of LM (flightscope LM is one of my best recommendation)? ( swing speed, launch angle, ball speed, spin rate, Swing path,Attack angle, side spins, etc?).
Trackman.
Swing speed – 103
Launch Angle – 12 degrees
Ball Speed – 152
Spin Rate – 2550
Swing Path – 0.6 degree from the inside, 4 degree up
Side spin – 8 yrds left
Carry – 248
Dynamic Loft  - 13 degrees

6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up? I am looking for a shaft that will lower my ball flight to a more piercing trajectory and provide more distance
7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing shots on the face of the club? where? I tend to have 2 misses, either off the heel – ball goes straight to small fade and loses distance, or when trying to hit really hard can hit open face high right ball (off centre of clubface)
8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good? I play a straight ball or just a slight draw.
9. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from? I play a heathland course in the uk. Winter can get wet, but summer gets hard and bouncy.
10. Body build and postures? height? etc. I am 5' 7" and weight 180-185. I am a medium/heavy build – strong back and forearms. I have a good set up - posture is good.
11. What is your glove size? Small mens
12. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be? Lee Westwood
13. I am generally a good ball striker. Occasionally I hit a really long ball (for me) but mostly try to hit fairways and greens. When I hit a lot of fairways I score really well. I seem to be getting hit past more and more often by guys who don't hit it as well as me but seem to get better trajectory and roll out. The ball flight  is too up and not forward and into the wind I struggle. I like a shaft to feel really stout throughout – not just in the tip or butt. When swinging my best my transition feels like it happens slowly, with a lot of energy being stored in the shaft – I don’t down **** but still create good load.

Answer: SOunds to me you need a midkick low spin shaft and shorter set up.

answer: I don't see you need a X flex. High kick point shaft low spin S flex tipped 1/2 max should do the job.

G'day,
I'm having trouble getting my driver sorted. In recent months I've used a variety of the latest drivers as follows:
- Callaway Razr Fit 9.5 with Aldila RIP Stiff, Changed to Fubuki Alpha stiff - both felt ok, Trajectory ok but tended to hook both shafts
- Adams fast 12 LS 9.5 with a fubuki alpha stiff - felt ok, trajectory a bit lower and tends to hook
- Ping i20 with a TFC 707D stiff - perfect feel trajectory and consistency but tosing 25yds in distance
- RBZ 9.5 with Ozik HD6 Stiff - felf a bit boardy, trajectory ok but tends to hook
- Burner V2.0 TP with diamana Ahina stiff - feels a bit boardy, trajectory ok, longest distance, but not as straight as the i20

Ideally I'd like to get the i20 going further as it is my preferred driver. The only time I use my driver on my home course is when I have to carry water, fairway bunkers etc so I need the distance. Otherwise I would just hit my #2 hybrid.

My Details are as follows:
-51 yo Male
- playing for 35yrs (practice most days)
- handicap 1
- Height 5' 7"
- weight 11 stone

- glove M-ML
- swing speed 107mph
- carry with i20 255yds (all ten shots were within +- 3yds)
- launch angle with i20 13*
- spin with i20 2800

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, lenght, etc ) Ping i20 9.5, std length & swingweight
2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? Loading factor on your swing? Heavy or light loader? quick tempo
3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing?where is your striking ability? my hcp is 1 and consistent striking
4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up? loss of distance
5. Have you ever had a launch monitor session before? See above
6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up? Trying to add distance by reducing the backspin and having a more penetrating ball flite vs. ballooning up and dropping out of the sky. increase distance
7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? where? I get a bit fast and hook my drives

8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good? Pretty straight tee ball, slight draw (I'm RH) but can usually move it both ways
9. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from? Generally upperscale public with soft fairways. I'm from Australia, conditions range from hard & fast in summer to heavy during winter
10. Body build and postures? height? see above
11. What is your glove size? need size estimate even if you don't use glove. see above
12. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be? Greg Norman (in my dreams)

thans in advance
Unfortunately I dont expect to access to a LM again for a while but if I do I will provide additional info.

answer: LM Data tells me your number is not that bad, other that maybe slightly to high on LA and spin...So I dunno why you said you lost 20yards. Maybe you just need slightly higher kick point shaft and lower spin that the one you get for the LM DATA.

How often you play in a month?  4-5 times .. sometimes 9 holes, sometimes 18 not in winter
How often you practice in a month? 4-5 times… not in winter
How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? It won't matter good or bad consistency. 7
Driver fitting questionnaire:

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, lenght, etc ) TM superfast 2.0 tp, 9.5 deg. RIP A 6 X-stiff cut to play 44.5”, not sure on swing weight (feels too light for me), mid size rel 3gen grip.
2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? Loading factor on your swing? Heavy or light loader? Mid temp swing, on the heavy side of loading
3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing?where is your striking ability? Handicap is a 1, swing consistancy I’d say is 7-8.  pretty consistant.  My miss is usually a push fade. draw and more consistancy with irons.
4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up?  ball comes out too low and I have to work realy hard to put any sort of draw (preferred shot)on it, and when i do try to draw i will pull hook it once and a while my iron shot is a slight draw, but the driver tend to fade.
5. Have you ever had a launch monitor session before? What brand of LM (flightscope LM is one of my best recommendation)? ( swing speed, launch angle, ball speed, spin rate, Swing path,Attack angle, side spins, etc?)

Track Man #’s

Head speed: 115
Ball speed: 170-175
Spin: 3015
Launch angle: 10.1 deg
Side spin: 210 R (no 100% sure.  This has changed.  When I miss it goes about 20-25 yards right.  When I hit it well, it’s only about 10 yards max)
Carry: 260-265
Total dist: 289-292

6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up? trying to get the ball up a tad more and bring back shot making control (being able to draw and/or fade)
7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? where?  I’ll tend to hit on the heal or up high on the club face.
8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good? tendancy is a slight draw, except with wedges (usually a slight fade).
9. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from? The course is all over, from wet to hard.  It’s sandy, so when it rains, it’s real wet, but when it’s been dry, it’s real dry. so the low ball works well sometimes, but not so well others.
10. Body build and postures? height? etc. 5’11”, 160 lb. athletic, up right posture.
11. What is your glove size? need size estimate even if you don't use glove. Men’s cadet large
12. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be? Hunter Mahan
13. etc. The more the better it become. I know the face of my driver is slightly open due to the mfg production ,this could be an issue.  But I like being able to hit both a fade and a draw when needed/wanted.  My go to drive has turned into a fade, when it used to be a slight draw.  I used to have the matrix 6hd shaft, but it went too high and ballooned.  I wanted a more penatrating ball flight so I tried out the aldila rip A 6 x-stiff and do not like the feel of it at all.  I don’t feel like I have control over the ball flight.  I can not for the life of me hit it high with any control either.  My swing is fairly consistant.  i do not have issues with my irons, i work the ball both ways fairly well.  they are set up with a TT DG x100 shaft at std length and lie.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer: To be honest, try to get the specs of your driver correctly first to get a LM data and the repost again here for a better reliable answer.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for taking the time to help us all out!

I'm 34. I was on the golf team in high school and at my best was a low single digit handicapper. After high school, college took priority and golf took a back seat. A few years ago my buddy got me into long drive competition and I developed some swing faults which I'm working on. I also blew out my back 3 years ago so have some limited flexibility in my lumbar region.

General questionnaire:
How often you play in a month? I play about 4-6 times a month
How often you practice in a month? once or twice a week
How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? It won't matter good or bad consistency. I'd say an 8 for consistency

Driver fitting questionnaire:

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, lenght, etc ) I have an Adams 9064LS 9.5* with Voodoo XVS6 at 44.5" (counterbalanced - not sure of swing weight)

2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? Loading factor on your swing? Heavy or light loader? Not exactly sure, I believe I'm a smooth tempo swinger and a light loader. (I'll attach a video my club fitter took of me.)

Posted Image

3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing?where is your striking ability? Current handicap is 13.6 trending positive. My irons are very consistent (8.5) my driver is not (4.5). Don't usually take a divot.

4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up? I have no feel in my shaft. It feels like I'm swing a telephone pole. I'm certain it's too stiff for me and I can't load it. I'm working too hard to swing the club and losing my posture (humping the goat). I'm not consistent off the tee and it gets me into trouble. If I find the fairway I score well because I'm accurate with my irons. It's become frustrating.

IMPORTANT & A MUST!  DO NOT POST IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COMPLETE LM DATA. Yes. Flightscope. See attached photo. I was testing shafts in a Callaway Razr Fit and Hawk(?) plus my Adams with the Voodoo. Angle of Attack was negative during this fitting but since then I've corrected that to get a positive angle of attack.
Posted Image

6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up? Trying to find the best shaft for me to maximize distance and control. Want to have confidence again in my driver and want to hit fairways and I want it to feel easy (stay in good tempo). (The shafts demoed were only ok.)

7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? where? My misses on the club face tend to be center low which tends to balloon the ball for me. Impact is usually center (but apparently below the sweet spot because I tend to get too much spin on the course. Bad shots are blocked or hooks.

8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good? Straight ball or baby fade.

9. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from? Coastal New Hampshire. Plush/firm fairways. Firm fast greens (run 10 easily).

10. Body build and postures? height? etc. 6'1, fairly athletic build, (slight beer belly)

11. What is your glove size? need size estimate even if you don't use glove. Men's Cadet ML

12. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be? Not sure, maybe a cross between Steve Stricker and Luke Donald?

13. etc. The more the better it become. I was fit for irons and had them MOI and Frequency matched and I'll attach that as well. (The 4 iron is not included because it was back ordered at the time.)
Posted Image

iron fitting info. Green and red circles were 7 iron. Purple and blue were 6 irons. I was fitted for the Red Circle shaft which is DGs300.
Posted Image

Not sure what else I can include. I do like to work the ball. I currently hit my 3 wood better than my driver. (3 wood is a Tour Edge Exotics CB3 Tour 13* with a Voodoo XVS7. I play the Wilson FG Tour V2 irons 3-P in DGs300 built as specked as above.)

Thanks in advance and appreciate any and all feedback with your recommendations.

Ted

Answer: To be honest, I'm not a believer in counter balancing your driver or iron. I know this method might work for a players that is to handsy, Your LM number is not enough for me to judge with only 1 hit base per shaft. What I can tell you, you need to look for a 13.5-14* LA with around 2600-2800rpm spin rate....but all these are nothing if we can find what is a good specs for better consistentcy in your contact and despertion.

Iron shaft...
First my current irons are Ping G15's with SR AWT 96g (soft regular) shafts. +1/2" long / 2 degrees up
I went to the SR shaft because of injuries. Was barely able to hit my 5 iron 150 yards.
Well time does heal old wounds and I'm now hitting my 5 iron 165/170. With which I'm happy.
What I'm not happy with is the ball flight. They are calling me the rain man. Moon balls is the order of the day.
I'm looking to lower my ball flight.
Some direction is being requested.
Pretty sure "regular" shafts are still necessary?
Do not like "lite" shafts.
Oh and I stand on the "right side of the ball". (Lefty)
I play a minimum of 8 times a month.
I hit balls a couple times a week. Not a plethora of balls but enough to get loose and make a couple good swings. don't need any further injuries.

1. Do you have a dynamic fitting before? lie angle? Yes see above
2. What is the existing set up specs and shaft, etc? Detail please! See above
4. How do you hit them so far?
5. What do you want to see it change/what is the problem? Lower trajectory
6. What do you like to see on your ball flight? Boring penetration
7. What is your ball flight tendency on your good golfing day? Pretty straight
8. Which side is your mistake tendency? left or right side? any problem catching the sweet spot? where? My problem is swing related. Club open at impact. High push/cut/fade
9. Do you consider yourself a High ball hitter or low ball hitter? HIGH!
10. How far you hit a 5 iron on a good no wind day? 5 iron swing speed ( carry distance )? 165/170
11. What is you measurement on Knuckle to floor with shoes on? LH for RH player vice versa on LH players
12. What is your measurement on wrist to floor with shoes on? LH for RH player vice versa on LH players
13. What is your glove size? need size estimate even if you don't use glove. Medium Large
14. How tall are you? 6" 1" pushing six two
15. Are you a deep/medium or shallow divot taker? Sweeper all the way
16. Who do you think your swing look like compare to PGA Tour players? No clue. Have not seen myself on tape in more than 15 years. And since I'm overweight no one on tour has my build in today's world.
17. What is your handicap index? From? 16 but is coming down as I've regained length
18. Smooth , medium or quick tempo swing style? How good is your shaft load factor on your down swing?  Medium smooth

Answer: NO LM data can"t help ! Sorry!

General questionnaire:
How often you play in a month?  6 rounds
How often you practice in a month?  20 hours
How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? 7.5

Driver fitting questionnaire:

1. What is the club existing set up? Titleist 910 D3 -- Titleist Diamana Ahina 44.5" -- 72g -- S
2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? I have a smooth tempo and load medium-light
3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing? 3 handicap with a 8/10 ball striking
4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up?  I feel like the shaft is too soft in the middle
5. Have you ever had a launch monitor session before? What brand of LM (flightscope LM is one of my best recommendation)? ( swing speed, launch angle, ball speed, spin rate, Swing path,Attack angle, side spins, etc?) club head speed: 110-112, 2 degrees inside to out (+/- 1), launch angle between 10-12 degrees, pretty square at impact (don't remember the exact numbers, but my miss tends to be a tad open)
6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up?  more consistent ball flight in terms of side-spin
7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? I tend to miss shots blocked straight out to right on a desirable medium/high ball flight or low and to the left, typically starting out with a low trajectory on the target line with a lot of steady hook (not a snipe) Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? typically my misses are a little high and off the toe
8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good? starts out just right of the target line with a high boring ball flight with about 2-3 yards of draw
9. What type of course condition you are playing most? Humid, hot, muggy conditions, soft fairways and greens Where are you from? Maryland
10. Body build and postures? pretty ideal set up position ... height? 6'
11. What is your glove size? Cadet Large.
12. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? Adam Scott, very upright... two plane where I drop my hands just a tad on the down swing... differences are primarily that my right elbow at the top is a little flared out and I have slightly more left knee bend at the top (can't torque my shoulder turn as effectively against my base)

I do like the shaft but I am thinking that perhaps going a bit heavier in terms of overall weight (75-78g) and a bit firmer feel in the midsection would be ideal.  I feel like it has a bit too much whip and sometimes if the clubhead catches up to my hands at the bottom of the swing, the shaft kicks it out in front which explains the two miss and horrendous hook.  I played the UST proforce V2 78g S in an old 905T and liked how firm the shaft felt through the hitting zone.  I wanted to try the UST ATTAS international 7S or 7X but can't find it to demo anywhere.

What recommendations do you think would best fit my circumstance? do you think that I should move up to an X or stay at S?

Answer: NOt enough LM data info. Definitely need to step up the flex!

I recently bought the Ping I20 driver, 3w, and 3 hybrid with project x 6.0 shafts.  They fit me as well as I can imagine.  What would be a good iron and/or wedge shaft for me?  I am willing to play steel or graphite.

-never been on a launch monitor
-swing speed has increased dramatically in the last 1.5 yrs
-5 iron carry 177yds. on a calm day
-3 handicap
-playing i15 irons with awt regular shafts - hook it when I swing full. These shafts are not right for me.
-like to swing smooth and work the ball
-can hit it high or low but prefer a low-mid trajectory
- take average divots
Thanks

Answer: I cant help much without LM data! But It looks like you need a stiffer shaft.

3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing?where is your striking ability? HDC 11 driver swing is consistent striking ability 7

Thanks, I will start by choking down on the driver. That might explain why I hit my 3 wood so well. (TM SF 15 degree, R). Shorter shaft = Smoother tempo and on the sweet spot more often.
