1. What is the club existing set up? Callaway Diablo Octane 10.5*, Neutral face, Aldila 85-X Shaft, Mid-Sized Grip, Cut down 1"
2. What type of swinger are you I have a steep swing which results in hitting down on the ball slightly and lots of spin. I hit my current setup WAY too high.

3. On a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing? I would say it's a 7. I hit the ball in the middle of the club. The misses are high/low on the face.
4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up? 90% of my misses are snap hooks.
5. Have you ever had a launch monitor session before? Yes. This was last summer with a Callaway Razr Fit Driver, 8.5', 1' Open, and what was supposed to be (According to the fitter) a very low spinning shaft. 176 MPH Ball Speed, 13.5' Launch Angle, 2800 RPM Spin

6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up? Way less spin to minimize my misses and keep the wind factor to a minimum.
7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? I start the downswing with my chest which results it coming way over the top and hitting a big huge fat cut.
8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good? With my driver its the smallest of draws. Maybe 3 or 4 feet. It's
9. If you have to pick, what ball flight is more comfortable for you to hit The shape I hit is very pleasing to my eye I just wish I didn't hit it so high into the air. I need a much more penetrating flight.
10. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from? My home course is long and narrow, with tree lined fairways. Tightly mown fairways and small greens. The fairways usually run out pretty nicely.
11.
Body build and postures? height? etc. 6'1", 275 lbs. Fairly decent posture. I probably need to be a bit more upright. I played baseball in college and I'm quite athletic.
12. What is your glove size? No idea but I play a midsized grip due to my familiarity with a baseball bat in my hands.

13. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? No clue.
14. etc. The more the better it become.

My local course had the Taylormade guys doing a demo day today and I hit the R1 just for giggles. I mainly wanted to try some shafts. I don't really like the look or sound of Taylormade stuff but oh well. With a 9.5* face set on Neutral and a UST Mamiya VTS Proforce 7x shaft I really had a nice ballflight. It was far more penetrating than my current setup. I also saw my mises minimized quite a bit. The TaylorMade guy said it was one of the lowest spinning shafts that they had. The wind was blowing pretty good out on the range today and I hit about 30 balls with my current setup before hitting the R1 and the wind had much less affect on my ball with the new setup.

I really liked the shaft but I didn't like the look/sound/feel of the R1. Are there any other shafts comparable to what I tried that you guys would recommend?

Bare in mind, No shaft is better than the one fit your swing profile...No matter what the cost is!!!

IMHGO Exotic shafts have a very distinctive feel and character and they have a tighter quality control. So if you ask me to copy a certain set up that you like, It's most likely easier for me to get it from a better quality controlled shafts. Some feel player can only go w/ a certain brand due to these feel and character.

NO! I'm not crazy to fit some one w/ an exotic expensive shaft only, even though i'm more comfortable working w/ them. I'm very open minded limited to what i know only of course ( Usually on popular brands only ). I will do my best to give every body enough options to chose from. To many shaft brand out there, i can't keep up...So i only try to keep up w/ the popular one only.

So help us to make our job easier and more effective to help you.

Thanks a million!

Regards,
Joe Kwok :pimp:

ps: If I missed anything here, any body can help me to add some comment THX!

To whom it may concern, Please do not copy my questionnaire nor modified with the same core. I hope we can set a high standard code of ethic and respect.

For you who need help directly from me by email or PM, please read this post first:

Hi you all,

I've been meaning to post this for a while now, but I was having a
hard time on how I have to put the words together to make sure you all
understand my good intention. Trust me, I really want to make every body happy as much as I can.

As you guys all know I've been trying my best to answer all questions you have regarding club fitting, shaft character, modification, etc...I will definitely continue to do so. So far I have no problem up to this point, however I can see the trend is on the up slope.

As most of you know, I am involved with this site in taking
care of some of the operation of it.  Also I have a heavy work load  ( not only
on clubs but emails and PM ) and also not to forget that taking care
of my family is my 1st priority. I've come to realize that I have a
lot of PM and emails that aren't productive and steal my precious time
not to be able to serve you who really need my attention and who spend
money & time w/ me for my expertise & service. Don't get me wrong
here, if I do have time I would love to answer all your question and
even talk BS w/ you guys. I'm sure my long time customers and friends knows how I am on this. Posted Image

So what I'm trying to do on this post is to make members understand
that if I haven't or can't answer any one of you who send me PM or
Email...I'm busy working to serve my friends and customers at my best
for what they've paid me for. IMO it's not fair if I have to reduce my
attention to those who are willing to pay me to get their stuff done fast and correctly.

So I beg you guy who just need to ask some questions to just post it
here on clubmakers folder or domestic folder and let some of the
members help you w/ your question, and yes I will try to monitor them
as much as I can to correct or give another opinion for you to understand more.

Of course, I'm encouraging you who are really serious and need my
service to email me at JWK.GOLF@GMAIL.COM and Yes! most of you who got my phone number can call me during my phone fitting/consultation hours to discuss your needs
effectively.  Please state clearly on your email or PM your
seriousness to get help through my service, so this way I can see what
and who that I need to put them in a high priority to answer.

Every body who knows me knows that I love talking about golf and every
aspect of it, but yet I should not forget to see clearly what is the priority. So I hope you understand if your email or PM took me a while to answer your question/s or if I may not be able to answer it at all in the future. I personally apologize in advance if I do so.

I just purchased a Fubuki Tour 63 and want to make sure it will at least help.  Currently I have a 9.5 RBZ with the stock shaft.  As for the LM stats - this is what I remember
148 ball speed, launch angle 10.4-15.2.  3200-3900 backspin RPM, 95-102 swing speed.

I generally play a bit of a fade and when I miss it is either a block or a pull, mainly the pull.  I am of average build - 5' 10", 170lbs.

Thanks

Thanks for your attention and Happy Golfing!

Cheers!

14. etc. The more the better it becomes.
I've had a fitting session yesterday. (was not allowed to photograph the data but remembered the important ones.)

He gave two recommendations that felt ok to me, the driver above still felt better so I bought nothing.

PING G25, 10.5, D3, 45,75", TFC 189D Tour X-stiff 64gr. Club: 114mph, Smash: 1.43, rpm 2500, Launch 12, attack: -1.0 (This one felt best, but had a higher more floating (instead of penetrating) flight than my old Rapture V2)

Titleist 913D2, 10.5, standard setting and SW, 45" The standard black shaft from diamana in x-stiff 62gr (The type was taped of but it looked to me as the D+ White, with those white flowers and white elipse that says diamana in black), Club: 112, Smash 1.41, rpm 2800, launch 11.5, attack: -0.8. It felt to light and the shaft a bit whippy at impact.

The shaft I totally can NOT hit is the Aldila ProtoPYPE X (In a rapture V2 9deg head) it seems to bend in all the wrong places.
Did hit some decent balls with an "OZIK 7M3 73gr X" unfortunately no data with this one.

PS could play anything but Taylor Made, never worked post R7;)

Thanks for this Topic!

I am looking to get an upgraded shaft for my Titleist 913... I was considering the Oban Kiyoshi series in black or white...

Here is the questionnaire that Joe recommended I fill out:
Driver Fitting Questionnaire

I am an assistant at a club in Florida but haven't ever actually been fit for a driver. I'm interested in an Oban shaft if you think it fits me properly.

General Questions:
I tend to play around once or twice a week and practice two or three other days a week (trying to practice more but long hours working at the course gets in the way). I am trying to get to where I can play mini tours regularly.
On a scale, I think my swings consistency is a 6.
I am currently a 3 handicap using the FSGA handicap system.
Strength of my game is my hybrids and long irons and putting.
I am 5'10" - 220lbs and over-weight

Driver Questions:
Clubs existing set up is as follows:
Head: Titleist 913D3 9.5 degrees (adjusted open and down to 8.75)
Shaft: (Stock Titleist) Mitsubishi Rayon S+ 62 (Stiff, 64 Grams, 45 inches) it is a mid/high launch and mid/high spin shaft.
I would say that I have a slightly quicker than normal tempo and I moderately load the shaft.
On a scale, I would roughly say my swing is a 6 in regards to consistency.
Launch Monitor Results: (averages)
Swing Speed: (104)
Launch Angle: (12.9)
Ball Speed: (151.4)
Total Spin: (2288)
Side Spin: (-689)
Back Spin: (2167)
Attack Angle: (37 degrees)
Offline: (-42.32 yards)
Peak Height: (33.85 yards)
Smash Factor: (1.456)
My current set up launches the ball rather high directly off the face and I get very little roll in soft conditions. I would like to bring the ball flight down some but not lose the carry and hopefully gain some roll. I have major issues hitting it in wind, even teeing the ball lower I have difficulty launching it lower.
My mistakes are generally a big push/block with a slight fade or a hard pull hook. Occasionally will hit it off the heel and thin.
When I am playing well I typically hit a slight draw. I have issues hitting a cut (on purpose) and am working on being able to hit a cut on demand.
I am in Florida. And my home course is rather soft but also occasionally play in heavy wind. I would like to have a more piercing ball flight but not lose the carry that I have.
5'10" stocky... I have issues slumping my shoulders and I'm working on being a little more upright.
Cadet Medium or Regular ML
Jason Dufner

I really appreciate your help.

Would love some help narrowing down shaft options.  I've been to a few different stores and decided on a 913 d2 and 913 fd... but after several launch monitor sessions, I'm not convinced the stock shaft offerings are right.  Any help or insight would be very helpful:

General questionnaire ( A must for all fitting) :

How often you play in a month? 5-7
How often you practice in a month? 5-19
How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? 7
What is your handicap now? What handicap system are they/you using? approx 7 (golfshot)
What is your strength on your game? Driver? Iron? Wedge? or putter? all pretty equal, nothing really stands out as being better.

Driver fitting questionnaire:

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, length, etc ) Taylormade '09 Burner, UST AxivCore black 69 Tour Stiff.  46"
2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? Loading factor on your swing? Heavy or light loader? Smooth, good load.
3. On a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing? where is your striking ability? consistency about 7, miss-hit is below center and/or heel
4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up? would like less spin and more distance (I like the feel though)
5. Have you ever had a launch monitor session before? What brand of LM? Numbers from Bridgestone ball fitting (not sure which LM it was).  Head Speed 103, Ball Speed 138, launch angle 14, total spin 2900.  On the course I average about 250 yards with a high fade, without too much roll.
6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up? less spin (straighter, more piercing ball flight).  More distance without sacrificing dispersion.
7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? where? My miss is a slice.  On a great shot I have a 2-5 yard fade, on bad shots, it turns into a 10 yard high, weak, slice.  I miss the ball low on the club face and/or towards the heal.
8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good?  Good shots are 2-5 yard fade.
9. If you have to pick, what ball flight is more comfortable for you to hit...High or low? Draw or Fade? High, fade.
10. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from? SoCal.
11. Body build and postures? height? etc. 5'9" 160lbs. average build
12. What is your glove size? What is the length of your wrist to longest fingers and length of your longest finger? (Left for RH golfer and vice versa for LH golfer) Medium cadet
13. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be?  Webb Simpson, would like to be more like Adam Scott ;)
14. etc. The more the better it become.  I've tested the 913 with the S+62 and Phenom 70 both in regular and stiff.  The Phenom 70 stiff gave me the best numbers, but felt a bit heavy, stiff.  Some have suggested the Phenom in 60s or the D+ 62s, but I haven't been able to try them or any other upgrade shafts that Titleist offers (i.e. Fujikura Motore, UST Vts, Fubuki, etc.). I know a launch monitor fitting would be the best option, but for some reason it's hard to find a fitter that has a good cross-section of shafts with the 913 adapter on them.

Thanks in advance for your help.

How often you play in a month?

How often you practice in a month?

10 times

How consistent do you think your swing are in a scale 1-10 ( 10 being the best )? It won't matter good or bad consistency.

8

What is your handicap now? What handicap system are they/you using?

4

What is your strength on your game? Driver? Iron? Wedge? or putter?

Length off the tee and ball striking with irons

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, length, etc ) As detail as possible please.

Taylormade R11 9 degrees extra stiff I think it plays at around 44.5 inches and it has 1 gram weights in the head and heel rather than the stock 10 gram in the toe with 1 gram in the toe. The shaft is an Aldila RIP Alpha 60 in X flex.

2. What type of swinger are you ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )? Loading factor on your swing? Heavy or light loader?

I have a quicker tempo with a fair amount of lag / loading.

3. On a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing? where is your striking ability?

8

4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up?

The shaft feels like a board and I feel like at the end of rounds it just wears me out and even though I can still load it, I just can't swing smoothly. Additionally, I have this miss where I hit these high block fades when my miss before this shaft was a low hook.

5. Have you ever had a launch monitor session before? What brand of LM (flightscope LM is one of my best recommendation)? ( swing speed, launch angle, ball speed, spin rate, Swing path,Attack angle, side spins, etc?) These numbers has to come from the existing club or the club that you are trying to fix or buy. IMPORTANT & A MUST!  DO NOT POST IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COMPLETE LM DATA.

Foresight launch monitor 110 mph swing speed, 15.4 degree launch angle, 159 ball speed, Total Spin 2200 Back Spin 2060 Side Spin -499

6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up?

A better feeling shaft with similar low spin characteristics that I can maybe control a little more. I'm thinking of buying a Titleist 913 so if any of the shaft offerings for that driver would fit me that'd be nice. Additionally, I'm curious if the AD DI 6X would be a good fit.

7. What is your shots tendency on mistakes when you are not playing so good? Do you have any problem missing a shots on the face of the club? where?

block fade late in the round, low hook early in the round.

8. What is your shots tendency (ball flight) that you like when you are playing good?

I work the ball both ways depending on the hole but I would say my best driving days/holes are when I can hit a mid to high draw.

9. If you have to pick, what ball flight is more comfortable for you to hit...High or low? Draw or Fade?

High fade is much easier to hit.

10. What type of course condition you are playing most? Where are you from?

Austin Texas so you can imagine, hard and dry fairways.

11. Body build and postures? height? etc.

Tall and lean, very athletic build 6'1'' around 175

12. What is your glove size? What is the length of your wrist to longest fingers and length of your longest finger? (Left for RH golfer and vice versa for LH golfer)

Large glove size 7.5 inches wrist to longest finger

13. If you have to be honest, who your swing look like on PGA tour? at least who do you like it to be?

I try to mimic Tiger's swing but I'm obviously not there yet. I am a 4 handicap.

14. etc. The more the better it become.

I am looking to replace my 910 D3 driver shaft. I am currently playing a Fubuki 63 x flex, but I think the tip is too soft. I also have a made for Titleist 'ahina in x flex, but I hate this shaft! It just doesn't agree with me. It seems to want to duck hool on me, when I try to fix this it hits a super high fade/slice. More consistency with the fubuki, but not enough in my opinion.
