I was just wondering if anyone else agrees that tour players attire is starting to get too logo'd up. You can't hardly blame them for wanting to maximize their revenue, but its a little out of control.
It is really distracting when they have logos all over their caps, both sleeves, collars, shoulders, back.
This is completely trivial but I just hate to see all of the commercialization creeping into what is a very traditional game. I'm afraid it is going to get worse too.
I don't mind the Nike players, the swoosh is pretty discreet and not as "in your face."
It is getting to be a bit much imo, they are starting to look like nascar out there. For the classic look of the game it's too much but hey I understand it's a money maker.
Why would a player turn down money? Would Campbell be better off turning down JaniKing and end up needing backers to get on tour like Rich Beem? These guys are out there to make money. Anyone who says they would turn down a check because their attire is too cluttered with logos is smoked. The average pro doesn't have much time to make bank should take every opportunity to do so.
how is a small jani king or nike, adidas or callaway logo any different. Your pimping yourself out either way. But hey if someone payed me to wear stuff on my shirt I'd do it. You think golf is bad, watch a poker tournament nearing the final tables. They get payed HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars to put pokerstars logos whereever possible.
Does anyone else find it odd that out of all the fit players on tour, Under Armour sponsers a fat guy?

Anyone wants to pay me big bucks to wear their logo(s), I'll do it. I have no pride. At the same time, I won't buy a logo shirt since I won't advertise for free. Any logos I own have been given to me, or part of a tournament deal.
You also have to realize that all of the logos bankroll the players going into the season. They have to pay their mortgages, travel and accommodations out on tour even if they don't make a dime in prize money. It's easy to say how you would conduct your life out on tour looking from afar. The grind of travel, interviews and other aspects of a high profile public life would get old quick. Would I like to have their problems? Heck yea.
Distracting... no. Understandable, yes. I don't like all the extra logos as more than anything I find them tacky.
I like what Nike does, no doubt when a player signs with Nike their contract prohibits other sponsorships on their apparel.
But put it in perspective in 2007 Phil won 9.3million playing golf... and this is what else he earned 53million in sponsorships, Barclays, KPMG, Grayhawk Golf Club, Rolex, Crowne PLaza Hotels and Callaway.
I'm just waiting to see logos down on the cuff of the pants on the outside of each leg to be caught on the "putter view" cameras.
They already do this... usually the left pant leg. I've now also seen them on the back pants pockets.
I started a thread about this a couple months ago- it was a Euro golfer (name escapes me at the moment) who had approximately 15 ads on his clothing.
It does look ugly, IMO.
I think we need to separate out the posts though... the OP was commenting that it didn't look too good. Yes, yes, yes, we understand that the golfers need to make a living. And we also understand that just about anyone on here would wear anything if a sponsor paid them money... yeah, yeah. I'd wear a Titleist hat if they paid me $1.23. But that has nothing to do with how attractive it looks compared to a nice clean look.
I would also argue that the more logos one wears on their clothing, the less a particular logo stands out. Nike spends a good buck (I'm told) to buy the whole outfit and as a result, their tour staff looks clean, professional, and all business. The Nike logo stands out when it is alone. The other guys are starting to look like NASCAR- which is fine- nothing wrong with that, if that's the look you're going for.
In a sport with a dress code, you'd think there would be limits on this type of thing.
Wait until they start to advertise on the clubs = and I dont mean titleist or nike or whomever - wait until bank of america or some sponsor engraves the back or toe of someones putter with their name for those close up's - now that would be FUNNY!!!!!
