Sad day in LarryBud's golf life lost a good one yesterday

I play golf with my Dad and his two buddies about every 2-3 weeks Saturday mornings. All 3 of these guys are now 80+ years old (I'm 40). We were all just getting ready to fire up another golf season.
Our good friend Tom died yesterday. I didn't really know Tom outside of golf, but my Dad was a friend of his for decades. Tom was a great guy, business owner, and a WW2 vet. He was a tail gunner over Germany, and flew 20+ missions, and he even had a bum leg from being shot. A true war hero, for sure. I think he was around 85 years old.
I'm sure our story is the same as many of yours. Our Saturday mornings consisted of the same old golf jokes week after week, but they always drew a laugh. The same stories were told time after time, but that's part of the whole deal, isn't it? Tom was labeled the resident sand bagger, but we probably all broke pretty much even with all of our bets over the years (well, except me and giving 20+ shots a round!)
I'm sure when the three of us tee it up again here in the coming weeks there'll be a definite void; of telling Tom to be quiet, or getting on him when he walks in our line on the green. Those past annoyances will turn to something we miss.
RIP Tom

Larry, so sorry to hear of your loss. I'm a few years older than you, and have a dad in the same age range as yours. He doesn't golf and that is one thing I've always wished we could share. I'm sure you guys will find a way to pay tribute to Tom during the first round.

RIP Tom.
I know what you mean. I grew up playing with my Dad and his buddies during my teenage years. Guys he knew since HS. One of them was my uncle and my godfather. Well, Dad had a heart attack years ago and add to that he worked construction his whole life he can't play anymore. Then my uncle died two years ago. It just makes me sad that I will not be able to play with them again. My Dad is a big part of the reason I am as good as I am. He got me started early. Golfing buddies can be more than friends. I just wish I could find a good group to play with.
